Lessons with Mike for a student in Beijing

Lessons are live, one-to-one video calls with Mike, taught in English. He holds the Cambridge CELTA, teaches every session himself from Hanoi, and his own IELTS result is 7.5 overall with 8.5 in Speaking. Band Booster is online only: there is no centre, classroom or group class in Beijing. About Mike has more detail.

Three anonymous results have been reported back to Mike: 6.0 to 7.5 overall, 5.5 to 7.0 in Writing and 6.5 to 8.0 in Speaking. They are individual cases, not promises: no band is guaranteed, and progress depends on your starting point and the work between sessions.

Check Google Meet before you book. Google services are generally not reachable in mainland China without extra tools. Try opening Google Meet on the same device and network you will use for the lesson, and message Mike first if you are not sure: mkcenter007@gmail.com or +84 383 390 963 (Zalo, WhatsApp and Telegram on the same number). No other platform is promised, and these contact routes may not work on every network either. The page for students in China cites the UK government's travel advice on this and says the sources checked for that page do not name Google Meet itself, so that page cannot tell you whether it opens on your network.

How booking works from Beijing

The booking page shows every slot in your own time zone and your price in your own currency before you pay; payment options are shown there too. A Google Meet link and a calendar invite arrive by email after you pay. A regular session lasts 60 minutes, there is no subscription or package, and a paid 30-minute trial can be taken once per student, on the first booking. You can reschedule at no charge up to 12 hours before the slot. Regional pricing and the booking steps are explained on the page for students in China, online IELTS tutor for China.

A session can cover Listening, Reading, Writing (marked against the public band descriptors) or Speaking (Parts 1, 2 and 3 in the real test format); see IELTS Speaking coaching and IELTS Writing feedback.

Beijing is one hour ahead of Hanoi, all year

The IANA time zone database describes Beijing time as the time used throughout China, at UTC+8, and has no daylight-saving rule for China after 1991. It lists Vietnam's current time as UTC+7 with no daylight-saving rules, and notes that this agrees with all of Vietnam since 1975; Hanoi is in Vietnam, so Hanoi is at UTC+7 all year. The gap does not change during the year: 20:00 in Hanoi is 21:00 in Beijing.

That is a conversion, not a list of open slots. The booking calendar converts times for you, Mike's calendar decides which slots are open and no particular hours are promised, so if you can study only early in the morning or late in the evening, check the booking page first.

IELTS test centres in Beijing: what the providers say

Band Booster IELTS is a private tutor, not a test provider or a test centre: it does not register candidates, set fees or issue results. This section was read on British Council China's Chinese-language IELTS site and on ielts.org in October 2026, so confirm it with the provider before you book.

British Council China lists three Beijing venues for One Skill Retake

British Council China's One Skill Retake page says One Skill Retake is currently offered in ten mainland cities, Beijing among them, and that candidates can choose from 15 centres for a retake. Three of the 15 are in Beijing, each labelled an IELTS computer-test centre: two in Chaoyang district (one labelled for the Guomao area) and one in Dongcheng district (labelled Chongwenmen). This page prints no street addresses, because venue lists change.

That list sits on a retake page, so it shows where a retake can be taken; it is not presented as a list of every venue. British Council China's computer-test page says all its IELTS tests use computer mode, although its test-types page shows the mode of IELTS for UKVI Life Skills as person-to-person. The computer-test page also describes close to 100 test centres in more than 40 mainland cities, without naming Beijing venues.

What the ielts.org finder showed when read

When read for this page, the ielts.org test-centre finder, filtered to China, did not include Beijing in its list of cities and showed no centre named for the British Council, although British Council China lists its own. It may therefore not show every venue. IDP China's own test-centre page, read in October 2026, listed one IDP computer-delivered Academic centre in Beijing, in Haidian district (IDP IELTS Beijing Haidian Test Center), which the ielts.org China finder did not show, so the providers' lists differ. Check both providers' searches and your booking confirmation.

Computer-delivered, as British Council China describes it

British Council China's e-TRF notice says that from tests on 1 September 2026, IELTS and IELTS for UKVI are entirely computer-based in mainland China, and that IELTS for UKVI Life Skills keeps paper score reports. Its computer-test page describes the Speaking test as a video call with a real examiner. Its test-day page says the video-call format is the same as the on-site interview, with the examiner speaking through the screen, headphones worn throughout and the Part 2 task shown on screen, while ielts.org's Speaking format and ways-to-take pages word Speaking at a test centre as face to face and its Guide for Test Takers says face to face or via video call. British Council China's test-day page also still has sections for the paper-based test alongside the computer ones, so that provider's own pages do not fully agree about paper. Follow your booking confirmation, and check your own provider's position, because the all-computer date comes from British Council China. Our page on computer-delivered IELTS in mainland China goes through each section.

For where your own full test is held, use the provider's centre search and your booking confirmation, starting from British Council China's booking pages or IDP China's site.

One Skill Retake in Beijing

British Council China says One Skill Retake is open only to candidates who took the full IELTS on computer with the British Council. You can register for and take one retake within 60 days of the original test date, using the same ID as for that test. ielts.org's One Skill Retake page adds that it can be used once per original test, for any one of the four skills, and that you should check the centre offers it before booking the full test. Our guide to One Skill Retake or a full retake explains how to choose, and lessons can concentrate on the skill you want to improve.

IDP China's One Skill Retake page, read in October 2026, lists IDP IELTS Beijing Haidian Test Center among its retake centres. It says IDP's retake is open only to candidates who took the full computer test at an IDP China centre in mainland China. You register for and finish the retake within 60 days of the full-test date on your score report, bring the same ID as for the full test, and can use it once per full test, for one skill. If you took your full test with one provider, check that provider's own retake rules.

Fees, dates and registration

Band Booster does not register candidates or set exam fees or test dates, so this page quotes no fee and no dates. Check both with the providers, on their own pages linked above, and use your booking confirmation for registration details. Online IELTS tutor by country covers other places, and how to choose an online IELTS tutor lists questions to ask.

Common questions

Is there an online IELTS tutor for students in Beijing?

Band Booster IELTS is one option: one-to-one live lessons on Google Meet with Mike, a CELTA-certified teacher in Hanoi, taught in English. It is online only, with no centre or class in Beijing, and no band is promised. Your price is shown in your own currency on the booking page before you pay; read the Google Meet note on this page before you book.

Do you run IELTS classes in Beijing?

No. There is no classroom or group class in Beijing; lessons are one-to-one on a video call. A group class may suit you better if you want a fixed weekly timetable or classmates, while one-to-one lessons depend on which slots are open in Mike's calendar. There is no subscription or package, so you book sessions as you need them.

Where can I take the IELTS test in Beijing?

British Council China's One Skill Retake page lists three British Council computer-test centres in Beijing (two in Chaoyang district, one in Dongcheng district), among the 15 centres in ten cities where it offers One Skill Retake. That is a retake list, not a full register of test venues. When read in October 2026, the ielts.org finder for China did not list Beijing as a city, while IDP China's own test-centre page listed one IDP computer-delivered Academic centre in Beijing, in Haidian district, so the providers' lists differ. Check the provider's centre search and your booking confirmation; Band Booster is not a test centre.

Is IELTS on computer in Beijing, and how is Speaking tested?

British Council China says that from tests on 1 September 2026, IELTS and IELTS for UKVI are entirely computer-based in mainland China, although its test-day page still has sections for the paper-based test. It describes Speaking as a video call with a real examiner, in the same format as the on-site interview, with headphones worn throughout and the Part 2 task on screen. ielts.org's Speaking pages say face to face and its Guide for Test Takers says face to face or via video call, so the wording differs; follow your booking confirmation.

What is the time difference between Beijing and Hanoi?

One hour: when it is 20:00 in Hanoi (UTC+7) it is 21:00 in Beijing (UTC+8), at any time of year, because neither currently uses daylight saving. Slots on the booking calendar appear in your own time zone, so you do not need to convert them.

Can I use Google Meet in Beijing?

Google services are generally not reachable in mainland China without extra tools. Try opening Google Meet on the device and network you will use for the lesson before you book, and message Mike first if you are unsure. No other platform is promised.
