How lessons work for a student in Manama
Every lesson is taught by Mike himself, one-to-one and live on Google Meet in English. He holds the Cambridge CELTA, teaches from Hanoi, Vietnam, and in his own IELTS scored 7.5 overall and 8.5 in Speaking. See about Mike.
Band Booster is online only: there is no classroom, centre or group class in Bahrain, so you join from Manama or anywhere else with a stable internet connection. If you want a class in a room with other students, a local class will suit you better. Comparing tutors? See how to choose an online IELTS tutor.
A session can cover Listening, Reading, Writing (Task 1 and Task 2, marked against the public band descriptors) or Speaking (the real three-part format), with feedback during the session rather than days later and written progress notes in your account afterwards. See IELTS Speaking coaching, IELTS Speaking tutor for Bahrain and its neighbours and IELTS Writing feedback.
Three results have been reported back to Mike, each anonymous: from 6.0 to 7.5 overall, from 5.5 to 7.0 in Writing and from 6.5 to 8.0 in Speaking. They are individual cases, not promises: no band is guaranteed, and progress depends on your starting point and the work you do between sessions.
Manama is 4 hours behind Hanoi, all year
Manama is on UTC+3 and Hanoi on UTC+7, and neither uses daylight saving, so the gap is 4 hours all year: 19:00 in Hanoi is 15:00 in Manama. The IANA time zone database, which is not Bahraini legislation, puts Qatar on UTC+3 with no daylight saving, its backward file makes Bahrain follow the same rules, and it puts Vietnam on UTC+7.
| Manama time (UTC+3) | Hanoi time (UTC+7) |
|---|---|
| 12:00 | 16:00 |
| 14:00 | 18:00 |
| 16:00 | 20:00 |
| 18:00 | 22:00 |
The table is a conversion, not a list of open slots. The calendar on the booking page shows every slot in your own time zone; Mike's calendar decides which are open, and no particular hours are promised.
IELTS test centres in Manama: what IDP and ielts.org list
IDP's Bahrain test-dates page lists one test venue in Bahrain, and the sessions on its Manama test-dates page name IDP IELTS Bahrain Bu Quwah. ielts.org's Bahrain finder showed six results when read: five centre listings and an IELTS Online card. The five listings cover three venues: IDP IELTS Bahrain Bu Quwah; British Council Bahrain at 146 Shaikh Salman Highway, Manama; and British Council, University of Technology Bahrain at P.O. Box 18041, Salmabad, Kingdom of Bahrain, Manama. The British Council's own Bahrain page on test dates, fees and locations says it offers IELTS tests in one location, in Manama, so ielts.org and the British Council differ on how many British Council venues there are. IDP's own centre page gives its address as Bu Quwah, Bahrain, so the most that can be said is that IDP files its Bahrain venue under Manama. Listings can be incomplete or change, so confirm the venue address, tests, format, fees and dates with the provider before you travel.
You book the test with a provider, not with Band Booster, a private coaching service that is not part of IDP or the British Council and does not register candidates, set fees, choose dates or issue results. This section was read in October 2026 on IDP's Bahrain pages, on ielts.org and on the British Council's Bahrain pages.
| Source read | What it shows |
|---|---|
| IDP Bahrain, test dates and its Manama page | The test-dates page shows one test centre in Bahrain, named IDP Education Bahrain; the sessions on the Manama page name IDP IELTS Bahrain Bu Quwah. The Manama page lists IELTS Academic, General Training and IELTS for UKVI sessions, labelled IELTS on computer, Writing on computer and One Skill Retake available, with Life Skills A1 and Life Skills B1 among its filter options. |
| ielts.org, IDP IELTS Bahrain Bu Quwah | An address that includes Manama. It lists IELTS Academic, General Training, IELTS for UKVI Academic and UKVI General Training, all on computer. |
| ielts.org, British Council Bahrain: first listing and second listing | Both give 146 Shaikh Salman Highway, Manama. The first lists the General Training test, on computer. The second lists the Academic Test, UKVI Academic Test and UKVI General Training Test, all on computer, plus Life Skills A1 and Life Skills B1, with no format shown for Life Skills. |
| ielts.org, British Council, University of Technology Bahrain: first listing and second listing | P.O. Box 18041, Salmabad, Kingdom of Bahrain, Manama. The first lists the General Training test and the second the Academic Test, both on computer. |
| ielts.org, Bahrain finder | Six results: five centre listings, each showing computer delivery and a One Skill Retake badge, two of them (one British Council Bahrain card and IDP IELTS Bahrain Bu Quwah) also marked UKVI Approved, and an IELTS Online card for the Academic test with booking through the British Council. |
| British Council Bahrain: test dates, fees and locations, IELTS for UKVI and One Skill Retake | Tests in one location, in Manama; IELTS Online for IELTS Academic only; IELTS for UKVI offered in Manama, with IELTS for UKVI Life Skills A1 and B1 listed; One Skill Retake for Academic and General Training on computer and for IELTS for UKVI on computer. |
IDP's test-dates page and ielts.org's listing give the same building address under the two IDP names, so they appear to be one venue; check the name and address when you book.
Listings can differ between ielts.org and a provider's own site, so ask the British Council which venue, tests and format apply to the session you book. Other pages on this site, such as computer-delivered IELTS in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman, summarise the British Council's own pages for the wider region.
Format: computer-delivered, and how Speaking is held
ielts.org's Ways to take IELTS page says you can sit IELTS on a computer at an IELTS test centre, with the Listening, Reading and Writing questions shown on screen and Speaking as a face-to-face session with a trained examiner, while its Guide for Test Takers says you take Speaking face to face or via video call. IDP's global page, which its Bahrain address leads to, describes a face-to-face interview and mentions no video call, and the British Council's Bahrain Academic page says some of its test centres deliver Speaking via video calls (its Bahrain test-day page has no video-call wording). The Bahrain listings above show IELTS on computer, and IDP's Manama page offers only IELTS on computer as a delivery format. No page read says how Speaking is held at each Bahrain centre, so ask the provider.
ielts.org said in a notice dated 5 March 2026 that from mid-2026 it would no longer offer IELTS as a paper-based test, with exact timelines varying by market, and IDP's own article says the same. Neither gives a date for Bahrain. The British Council's Bahrain dates, fees and locations page carries a banner saying that from 1 February 2026 all IELTS tests will be delivered on computer, yet the same page also says you can choose between IELTS on paper and on computer, and some other provider pages still carry general wording that mentions paper, so confirm the format of the session you book.
ielts.org describes three other options:
- Writing on Paper. You take the test on computer and write the Writing section by hand; ielts.org says it is available in selected countries. It is not confirmed for Bahrain: IDP's Manama page labels its sessions Writing on computer and does not mention Writing on paper.
- IELTS Online. ielts.org says it is offered in some countries, for IELTS Academic only, taken at home or another suitable private location, with Speaking by video call. Its page names no countries, but its Bahrain finder shows an IELTS Online card for the Academic test with booking through the British Council, and the British Council's Bahrain page says you can take IELTS Online, IELTS Academic only. IDP's Bahrain pages do not list it: the Manama and centre pages show IELTS on computer, and IDP's Bahrain results page mentions IELTS Online only in a general line about checking results (IDP's global page says IELTS Online is available in over 60 countries without naming them), so check with IDP as well as the British Council. Institutions choose whether to accept online results, and ielts.org says UKVI visa tests must be taken at an IELTS test centre, so check that the organisation receiving your result accepts IELTS Online before you choose it.
- IELTS for UKVI and IELTS Life Skills. ielts.org says IELTS for UKVI is accepted by UK Visas and Immigration, and that Life Skills assesses only speaking and listening. ielts.org's second British Council Bahrain listing shows Life Skills A1 and Life Skills B1 alongside UKVI Academic and UKVI General Training, and the British Council's Bahrain UKVI page lists IELTS for UKVI Life Skills A1 and B1 and says IELTS for UKVI is offered in Manama. IDP's Manama page lists IELTS for UKVI sessions and has Life Skills A1 and Life Skills B1 only as filter options, with no Life Skills session shown, so ask the provider which tests are open.
IELTS fees and dates in Manama: check the provider
The test fee and dates are set by the provider, not by Band Booster, so this page quotes none, and they may change. IDP's Manama test-dates page shows sessions. ielts.org's centre listings say that prices may vary from time to time and may be subject to country or local tax, and they advise checking with the test centre, so check the provider before you book.
One Skill Retake, results and score validity
IDP's Bahrain page on One Skill Retake says you can retake one of Listening, Reading, Writing or Speaking and that the original must be a full IELTS on computer test at a centre that offers it. On the deadline, IDP's Bahrain page says you must book within 60 days of the original test date and, elsewhere on the same page, that you sit the retake within 60 days; ielts.org says you need to book and take it within 60 days; the British Council's Bahrain page says you must sit it within 60 days. Plan to sit the retake inside 60 days and confirm the exact cut-off with your provider. IDP's Bahrain listings mark its venue as offering it, ielts.org's Bahrain finder shows a One Skill Retake badge on all five of its centre listings, and the British Council's Bahrain page says it is available for IELTS Academic and General Training on computer and for IELTS for UKVI (Academic and General Training) on computer. ielts.org says to check with your test centre for specific availability, so confirm it for your test. Check with the organisation that will receive your result that it accepts a retake result. See One Skill Retake or a full retake for how to choose.
IDP's Bahrain results page says results for IELTS on computer come 1 to 5 days after the test, that you can view them online for 28 days, and that the Test Report Form is valid for two years. Timings are typical rather than promised.
What to practise before test day
ielts.org's Academic Speaking and General Training Speaking pages describe a face-to-face interview with an examiner in three parts, taking 11 to 14 minutes. Reading and Writing differ between Academic and General Training, so check which test your university, employer or immigration body asks for; see Academic and General Training.
ielts.org's preparation page lists sample test questions and answers, videos on how Writing is scored, courses, apps, webinars, books and articles. What follows is general study advice from Band Booster IELTS, not guidance from IDP, the British Council or ielts.org, and it promises no band:
- Practise the way you will sit it. If you sit IELTS on computer, practise Listening, Reading and Writing on a screen, and keep Speaking as a live conversation with another person; adjust if your session uses Writing on Paper.
- Use the clock. Run Speaking Parts 1, 2 and 3 aloud against the timer (the Speaking Part 2 timer helps with the long turn), and write Task 1 (at least 150 words) and Task 2 (at least 250 words) in one 60-minute sitting. Task 2 counts for twice as much of the Writing band.
Check the requirement with the organisation that sets it. IDP says IELTS is accepted by over 13,500 organisations across 160 countries, but that is a global figure and the page names no organisation in Bahrain. This page states no score requirement, so ask the organisation that will receive your result which test and score it needs.
Price, booking and rescheduling
Bahrain is in the higher regional price tier, above the Vietnam price. The booking page shows your price in your own currency before you pay, along with the payment options. A regular session lasts 60 minutes, and a paid 30-minute trial can be taken once per student, on the first booking only. There is no subscription and no package. You can reschedule at no charge up to 12 hours before a session; a cancellation inside 12 hours is not refunded.
The page on online IELTS tutoring for Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman explains how pricing works and lists the booking steps. Questions first? Message Mike on WhatsApp or Telegram at +84 383 390 963 (a Vietnam number), or email mkcenter007@gmail.com.
