One-to-one online lessons for Bali, taught from Hanoi
This is private online coaching, not a classroom course. Mike holds the Cambridge CELTA (July 2017), is based in Hanoi and teaches every session himself, one-to-one and live on Google Meet, in English only (not Bahasa Indonesia). A regular session lasts 60 minutes and covers Listening, Reading, Writing (Task 1 and Task 2, marked against the public band descriptors) and Speaking (Parts 1, 2 and 3 in the real test format), with feedback during the session. In his own IELTS Mike scored 8.5 in Speaking (about Mike).
Three anonymous results have been reported back to Mike: from 6.0 to 7.5 overall, from 5.5 to 7.0 in Writing and from 6.5 to 8.0 in Speaking. No band is promised: progress depends on your starting point and the work between sessions.
Price, payment and the booking steps are the same across Indonesia and are set out on the Indonesia page. This page covers what is particular to Bali: the clock, the IELTS addresses in Denpasar, and the UKVI and Life Skills listings.
Bali is one hour ahead of Hanoi
Bali is on Central Indonesia Time, WITA, which is UTC+8, and Hanoi is on UTC+7, so a clock in Denpasar runs one hour ahead of a clock in Hanoi. The IANA time zone database places Bali in its Asia/Makassar zone, together with Sulawesi, Nusa Tenggara, west Timor and east and south Borneo (its file spells Nusa Tenggara as “Nusa Tengarra”). Its Asia file labels the UTC+8 zone WITA, central Indonesia, and says its Ho Chi Minh entry (UTC+7) agrees with all of Vietnam since 1975, which includes Hanoi.
| Place | Zone | Offset | Compared with Hanoi |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hanoi | Vietnam | UTC+7 | – |
| Denpasar and the rest of Bali | WITA (central Indonesia) | UTC+8 | 1 hour ahead |
For example (not a promised slot), 19:00 in Hanoi is 20:00 in Denpasar. You do not have to do that sum: the calendar on the booking page shows each slot in your own time zone. Open times depend on Mike's calendar, and no particular hours are promised. The Indonesia page compares all three Indonesian time zones with Hanoi.
IELTS test addresses in Denpasar: what the lists show
Band Booster is a private tutor, not a test centre. It does not register candidates, set exam fees or choose test dates, and it is not affiliated with IDP or the British Council. This section was read on IDP's Indonesia pages, the ielts.org test-centre finder and GOV.UK on 24 October 2026. Lists, tags and sessions change, so confirm on the provider's page before you book. This page quotes no exam fee or test date.
You choose a provider, then a test session, and the venue is named on the session. Across IDP's list and the ielts.org finder, three Denpasar addresses appeared. The table gives each address as IDP's test dates page or the finder prints it, with punctuation tidied. This page names no venue other than IDP Bali, and it does not rate or compare venues; the providers' pages give the other names.
| Address in Denpasar | Shown by | How it is listed |
|---|---|---|
| Komplek Griya Alamanda No. 3 and 4, Jl. Cok Agung Tresna, Dangin Puri Klod, Kec. Denpasar Timur, Denpasar, Bali 80234 | IDP's test dates page, the ielts.org finder and the GOV.UK list | IDP Bali |
| 3rd Floor Main Building, Jl Raya Sesetan No 190, Denpasar, Bali 80223 | IDP's test dates page and the ielts.org finder | Listed by IDP under another institution's name; the finder shows the same street on a card under that institution's name |
| Jalan Imam Bonjol No 555, Pemecutan Klod, Kota Denpasar, Bali 80119 | The ielts.org finder | A card listed under the British Council |
IDP Bali
IDP's test locations and dates page prints the first address above in Denpasar Timur (East Denpasar) with the phone number 0361 361 0070. The IDP Bali page gives regular opening hours of Monday to Friday, 08:30 to 17:00. Those hours say when the centre is open, not which days it holds tests, so read the date on the session itself.
Two more Denpasar addresses
The Jalan Raya Sesetan address is on IDP's list and, under that institution's own name, on the finder; “listed by IDP” is not the same as “run by IDP”, and this page does not say who operates it. The Jalan Imam Bonjol address comes from the ielts.org test-centre finder, where the card is listed under the British Council. The British Council publishes its own Indonesia pages, including its dates, fees and locations page; check them for the venue you would sit. This page makes no claim about One Skill Retake at any Denpasar venue, because the tags differ between sources; ask the provider if it matters to you.
Lombok is also on the lists
Lombok is another island, not part of Bali, and this page does not treat it as a nearby choice. It is mentioned because the same lists show it. IDP's test dates page shows a Lombok venue with an address in Labuapi, Nusa Tenggara Barat (postcode 83361), and the finder's Lombok card gives an address in Labuapi, West Lombok, tagged Computer. The two lists write the street part differently, so this page does not say whether they describe one venue, and it does not name it. IANA places Nusa Tenggara in the same zone as Bali, and both Lombok addresses are in Nusa Tenggara Barat, so a Lombok session would also be on WITA.
What IDP Bali's sessions show: computer, UKVI and Life Skills
The IDP Bali page lists sessions by test type, and shows only some of them at a time. Among the sessions read on 24 October 2026:
- IELTS for UKVI (Academic) sessions at IDP Bali, tagged “IELTS dengan komputer” (IELTS on computer) and “Writing on computer”.
- Life Skills A1 and Life Skills B1 sessions, marked “IELTS UKVI”, listed under a separate heading, “IDP Bali (Life Skills)”, and tagged “IELTS berbasis kertas” (paper-based).
So the address alone does not tell you the format: the same centre shows computer-tagged and paper-tagged sessions, and the tag sits on each session. Read it before you pay. How the computer format works is covered on computer-delivered IELTS in Indonesia.
UKVI listings for IDP Bali: GOV.UK and ielts.org
“UKVI” refers to UK Visas and Immigration. Three sources mention IDP Bali in that context, and they say different things, so the table keeps them apart.
| Source | What it shows for IDP Bali |
|---|---|
| GOV.UK list of approved test centres outside the UK (October 2026 version, a spreadsheet file) | A row for IDP Bali under “IELTS SELT Consortium”, country Indonesia, with the Griya Alamanda address, marked “Available” |
| The ielts.org test-centre finder | The IDP Bali card carries the “UKVI Approved” label |
| The IDP Bali page | IELTS for UKVI (Academic) sessions tagged as computer-delivered, and Life Skills A1 and B1 sessions tagged as paper-based |
The detail for the whole country, with the other cities' listings beside Bali's, is on IELTS for UKVI and Life Skills in Indonesia, and a venue-by-venue comparison of the two lists is on IELTS test venues in Indonesia. Jakarta's venues are on the Jakarta page.
Where the sources differ on paper and digital
ielts.org's update on test delivery, dated 5 March 2026, says that the Secure English Language Test (SELT) for UK Visas and Immigration purposes will only be available in the fully digital format. IDP Bali's page, as read on 24 October 2026, lists Life Skills A1 and B1 sessions as paper-based. The same ielts.org page says IELTS is moving to computer from mid-2026 and that exact timelines vary by market. This page does not decide between the two: the ielts.org sentence is a general one and names no centre. Check the format on the session, and ask whoever requires your test whether that format is acceptable.
Whether you need a UKVI test is not decided here
Whether you need a UKVI test at all depends on the visa category you apply under, not on the test centre and not on Band Booster, and this page gives no personal visa advice. GOV.UK's guidance on secure English language tests is the place to start.
Before you book a test session in Bali
- Read the venue name on the session and compare it with the table above, which gives the addresses from IDP's test dates page and the finder. Three Denpasar addresses appeared across two lists, and Lombok is a different island.
- Read the test type and the format tag. IELTS for UKVI (Academic), Life Skills A1 and Life Skills B1 are separate listings, and IDP Bali tags them differently.
- Do not read opening hours as test days. The Monday to Friday hours are the centre's regular opening hours.
- Ask who needs the result. The organisation receiving your result decides which test and score it needs; see Academic vs General Training and IELTS scores for study abroad.
- Use the provider's own pages for the exam fee and dates. They are set by the provider you book with, they change, and Band Booster does not handle them.
Using lessons alongside a test booking
These are IELTS lessons: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. This page does not describe them as preparation for the Life Skills A1 or B1 tests, which IDP lists as separate sessions; if you are preparing for one of those, message Mike before booking to ask whether a lesson would suit you. As general teaching advice, not provider guidance, and with no band promised: bring a timed Writing answer, or the questions you missed in a practice test, to a lesson and go through why. The Speaking Part 2 timer helps with long-turn practice, and the Speaking tutor page for Indonesia compares what the sources say about how Speaking is held. If one skill is the problem, One Skill Retake or a full retake sets out the choice.
Booking lessons from Bali
Pick a slot on the booking page; the calendar shows your own time zone, and the page normally shows visitors in Indonesia the price in rupiah before they pay. A paid 30-minute trial can be taken once per student, on a first booking, and you can reschedule at no charge up to 12 hours before a slot. How to choose an online IELTS tutor lists what to ask any tutor, this one included.
