How one-to-one online IELTS lessons with Mike work for students in Hyderabad
Lessons are online only. Band Booster has no classroom, centre or batch in Hyderabad: each lesson is a live session between you and Mike on Google Meet, taught in English. Mike holds the Cambridge CELTA, teaches every session himself from Hanoi, and his own IELTS result is 7.5 overall with 8.5 in Speaking. About Mike has more.
If you are searching for IELTS classes in Hyderabad, this is a different format: the whole lesson is about your own work, and you choose the skill. Writing Task 1 and Task 2 are marked against the public band descriptors, and Speaking is practised in Parts 1, 2 and 3 in the real test format. Feedback comes during the lesson, and written progress notes go into your account afterwards. See IELTS Speaking coaching, IELTS Speaking tutor for India and IELTS Writing feedback for how those lessons run.
No band, timeline or number of lessons is promised; progress depends on your starting point and the work you do between lessons.
Hanoi time and Hyderabad time
Hyderabad is on Indian Standard Time (IST), UTC+5:30. CSIR-National Physical Laboratory, which maintains IST, states it as UTC+5:30 on its web time display, and the IANA time zone database gives India a single zone, Asia/Kolkata (see its zone.tab list), so Hyderabad has no separate zone. The same database puts Vietnam (Asia/Ho_Chi_Minh, which IANA notes agrees with all of Vietnam since 1975) at UTC+7. Neither has a daylight-saving rule in the current database, so Hanoi is 1 hour 30 minutes ahead of Hyderabad all year.
| Hyderabad time | Hanoi time |
|---|---|
| 07:00 | 08:30 |
| 12:00 | 13:30 |
| 18:00 | 19:30 |
| 21:00 | 22:30 |
This is a conversion only: Mike's calendar decides which slots are open, and no particular hours are promised. The calendar on the booking page shows every slot in your own time.
Where IDP says you can take IELTS in Hyderabad
IDP India's pages name three Hyderabad locations, Begumpet, Kukatpally and Jubilee Hills, but its Hyderabad booking block and its IELTS for UKVI list show only Begumpet and Kukatpally. IDP India's 2021 announcement says that, under an agreement with the British Council, all IELTS tests in India are delivered by IDP, so IDP India's pages are the ones to check for Hyderabad. IDP India's India test centres page lists Hyderabad among its cities. The pages that name Hyderabad venues do not fully agree:
| IDP India page | What it shows for Hyderabad |
|---|---|
| IELTS on Computer | Its computer test-centre list names Hyderabad - Begumpet, Hyderabad - Jubilee Hills and Hyderabad - Kukatpally. |
| Hyderabad test centre | The text says IDP offers three locations: Begumpet, Kukatpally and Jubilee Hills. Its computer-delivered booking block offers Begumpet and Kukatpally only, and its how-to-reach section lists those two. |
| IELTS for UKVI test centres | Two Hyderabad entries, Begumpet and Kukatpally. Jubilee Hills does not appear. |
Begumpet and Kukatpally appear on all three pages. Jubilee Hills is named on the computer list and in the Hyderabad page's text, but not in that page's booking block or addresses, or in the UKVI list. This page cannot say whether Jubilee Hills can be booked for your date, so go by the centres IDP shows when you choose one. IDP's Hyderabad page carries 2025 in its title and still describes paper-based IELTS, so treat dated detail on it with caution.
Band Booster IELTS is a private tutor, not the exam board or a test centre. It takes no test registrations and quotes no exam fees or dates; IDP India publishes those.
What to confirm with IDP before you pay for a test date
IDP India's pages differ on paper versus computer and on how Speaking is held (a video call on some pages, face to face on others, and either on a few), and none of the IDP India pages read confirms IELTS Online for India. Computer-delivered IELTS in India sets out the sourced detail. Three points are specific to Hyderabad.
- Writing on Paper. IDP India's IELTS on Computer page says IELTS on Paper has been discontinued, and its Writing on Paper page says test takers in selected locations will be able to choose handwritten Writing. Its text does not say which locations are "selected". The booking selector on that page lists the same cities for IELTS (Writing on Paper) as for IELTS on Computer, including Hyderabad - Begumpet and Hyderabad - Kukatpally, and a city appearing in that list does not show that Writing on Paper can be booked there for a given date. IDP India's articles on Writing on Paper in India give a start date for the option in India of 1 September 2026 in most of them (with advance booking from 1 July) and of 1 July 2026 in one. So this page cannot confirm Writing on Paper for Hyderabad, and it cannot rule it out either: plan for IELTS on computer and check the format shown when you book.
- IELTS for UKVI. IDP's UKVI centre list shows Begumpet and Kukatpally only. IDP India's IELTS for UKVI page says UK Visas and Immigration accepts only tests sat in person at an official IELTS for UKVI centre, and GOV.UK's secure English language test page lists IELTS for UKVI among its approved tests. Check which test your own application needs.
- One Skill Retake. IDP's UKVI centre list flags One Skill Retake at both Hyderabad entries, without saying which test types the flag covers. IDP's One Skill Retake page words availability in two ways: one section says all cities across India, while its Key features box lists Australia, New Zealand and the UK. Confirm eligibility in your candidate portal. ielts.org says to check that your centre offers it before you book the full test, and that the retake must be sat within 60 days. See One Skill Retake or full retake.
Check the organisation that will receive your result before you choose. The test type, and whether a retake result counts, depend on that organisation. For example, Canada's immigration department (IRCC) says on its Express Entry language test page that, for Express Entry, you must take IELTS General Training and that it does not accept One Skill Retake. That is one case, so ask your own university, employer or immigration body. See also Academic or General Training.
What to practise before test day
ielts.org describes IELTS Academic as four sections: Listening (about 30 minutes), Reading (60 minutes), Writing (60 minutes) and Speaking (11 to 14 minutes). General Training has the same four sections, with the same Listening and Speaking; Reading and Writing differ. On computer, Listening, Reading and Writing are answered on screen, and Speaking is a session with an examiner.
The points below are a teacher's general advice, not guidance from IDP or ielts.org, and they promise no band.
- Time Writing as one 60-minute sitting. Writing is one 60-minute section with two tasks, so practise both together. If you will type on test day, type your practice answers too.
- Say your Speaking answers aloud, to a person. Part 2 gives you 1 minute to prepare before you speak. Try the Speaking Part 2 timer, the cue card themes and the Part 1 and Part 3 topics.
Using lessons with the providers' practice material
IDP India publishes an IELTS on Computer familiarisation test. It is untimed, covers Listening, Academic Reading and Academic Writing, and lets you check your answers. The practice experience section (practice tests on screen) of ielts.org's Academic sample test questions page is not timed, and ielts.org says the timer, highlighting and notes can work differently in the live test. The same page also says that, with these official practice materials, you can test yourself under timed conditions. If you are sitting General Training, check what each page offers for your version. Computer-delivered IELTS in India has more on both.
Because IDP's familiarisation test and ielts.org's practice experience are both untimed, you set the timing: do a timed task on your own, then bring your answer to a lesson so Mike can go through it with you. You can book a single lesson for feedback on one Writing task or one Speaking part. The band score calculator shows how four skill bands make an overall band.
Cost and booking from Hyderabad
The booking page shows your lesson price in your own currency before you pay, and India is in the same regional price tier as Vietnam. A regular lesson is 60 minutes, and a paid 30-minute trial lesson can be taken once, on your first booking. You can move a lesson at no charge up to 12 hours before it starts; a cancellation inside 12 hours is not refunded. Payment options are shown on the booking page.
The IELTS test fee is separate from your lesson price, and Band Booster does not set it or register students for the test. The India page explains how pricing and booking work across India.
