Online IELTS tutor for India: one-to-one lessons from Hanoi, test with IDP

Band Booster IELTS offers one-to-one, online-only IELTS tutoring with Mike, a CELTA-certified teacher based in Hanoi who teaches every session himself, live on Google Meet and in English. Hanoi is 1 hour 30 minutes ahead of India all year (UTC+7 against UTC+5:30), and the booking calendar shows slots in your own time. The point that matters most in India: IDP manages all IELTS testing there, so you book the test with IDP, and Band Booster is a private tutor, not the exam board.

Lessons with Mike: online only, in English, no batches in India

Lessons are one-to-one on Google Meet and online only, with no group batches or classroom in India. They are taught in English only, not Hindi. See about Mike for his background, the general online IELTS tutor page, and private tutor versus group course (written for Hanoi) for the comparison with group courses.

Hanoi is 1 hour 30 minutes ahead of India

The IANA time zone database lists India (Asia/Kolkata) at UTC+5:30 and Vietnam, including Hanoi, at UTC+7. Neither currently uses daylight saving, so the gap stays the same all year: 19:00 in Hanoi is 17:30 in India.

The booking page calendar lists every open slot in your own timezone. No particular hours are promised: open times follow Mike's calendar, so look at it before you plan around a test date.

IDP manages all IELTS testing in India

Band Booster IELTS is a private tutor, not the exam board or a test centre. It takes no test registrations and sets no exam fees or test dates, so this page quotes neither fees nor dates. Mike's CELTA is a Cambridge teaching qualification, separate from the exam. Everything below is taken from the providers' India pages and ielts.org, as read in October 2026.

The British Council's India IELTS FAQ says it does not deliver the IELTS test in India and that all IELTS testing there is managed by IDP. IDP's 2021 announcement says that, under an agreement with the British Council, IDP would deliver all IELTS tests in India from 25 July 2021.

Use IDP IELTS India for everything about the test itself:

Paper or computer: IDP India's own pages disagree

IDP India's IELTS on Computer page says IELTS on Paper has been discontinued and presents IELTS Writing on Paper (Listening and Reading on computer, Writing by hand) as the alternative. However, IDP India's booking and test-dates pages still show an "IELTS on Paper" option, and ielts.org still mentions IELTS on Paper for India in places. IDP's own pages do not agree, so check which formats are offered for your city and date when you book.

IDP India describes the Speaking test as a video call interview with an examiner in a quiet room. IDP's page does not say where the video call takes place, and ielts.org describes Speaking as face to face, so check the arrangements with IDP when you book.

IELTS Online: not confirmed for India

These lessons are online, but the IELTS test is booked separately with IDP. ielts.org says IELTS Online, an at-home test for Academic only, is offered in some countries, and that receiving organisations decide whether to accept it. None of the IDP India pages read for this page confirms it for India, so ask IDP.

IELTS for UKVI: in-person centres only

IDP India offers IELTS for UKVI. Its IELTS for UKVI page says UK Visas and Immigration only accepts tests taken in person at an IELTS for UKVI test centre.

One Skill Retake: IDP India's availability wording differs by section

IDP India's One Skill Retake page says the option is available for IELTS on Computer Academic and General Training and allows one retake for each full test. Its availability wording is not consistent: one section says it is available in all cities across India, while the Key features box lists Australia, New Zealand and the UK. Check your eligibility in your candidate portal. The retake must be done within 60 days of your original test: IDP India says to book within 60 days and ielts.org says to sit it within 60 days, so plan for both to fall inside that window.

Not every organisation accepts a retake result. IDP India and ielts.org both advise checking with the receiving organisation, and ielts.org says to do so before booking. To weigh a single-skill retake against a full retake, see IELTS One Skill Retake or full retake; sessions can concentrate on one skill, with no band promised.

No score requirement for any university, employer or visa is stated on this page; ask the organisation that will receive your result which test type and score it needs.

India: lesson price and exam fee are separate

India is in the same regional pricing tier as Vietnam. No price is quoted on this page: the booking page shows it in your own currency before you pay. Regular sessions run 60 minutes, and a paid 30-minute trial can be taken once, on your first booking.

The IELTS exam fee is separate: IDP India publishes it on its own site, linked above.

The calendar shows each slot in your own time and the price in your own currency before you pay. A paid 30-minute trial is available once, on your first booking.

Common questions

Who is a good online IELTS tutor for someone living in India?

Band Booster IELTS is one option for students in India: one-to-one online lessons with Mike, a CELTA-certified teacher based in Hanoi, which is 1 hour 30 minutes ahead of India. He teaches every session himself, live on Google Meet and in English, so there is no classroom, no group batch and no teaching in Hindi. It suits students who want their own speaking and writing corrected during the session and can practise between sessions; no band is promised. Band Booster does not register you for the test: IDP manages all IELTS testing in India.

How far ahead of India is Hanoi, where Mike teaches from?

Hanoi (UTC+7) is 1 hour 30 minutes ahead of India (UTC+5:30) all year, because neither uses daylight saving, so 19:00 in Hanoi is 17:30 in India. The booking calendar shows open slots in your own time.

Who runs IELTS tests in India, and where do I book?

IDP, whose India site is ieltsidpindia.com. The British Council's India FAQ says it does not deliver the IELTS test in India and that all IELTS testing there is managed by IDP. Band Booster IELTS is a tutor only and takes no test registrations, so check IDP India for dates, fees and test centres.

Is IELTS in India taken on paper or on computer?

IDP India's own pages do not agree, so check when you book. Its IELTS on Computer page says IELTS on Paper has been discontinued, but its booking and test-dates pages still show an IELTS on Paper option. IDP India describes the Speaking test as a video call interview with an examiner, while ielts.org describes Speaking as face to face, so confirm the arrangements with IDP.

Can I take IELTS Online at home in India?

Not confirmed for India. ielts.org says IELTS Online, an at-home test for Academic only, is offered in some countries, and that receiving organisations decide whether to accept it. None of the IDP India pages read for this page confirms it for India, so ask IDP before you plan around it.

Can I retake just one IELTS skill in India?

Possibly, so check your eligibility in your candidate portal. IDP India's One Skill Retake page says the option is available for IELTS on Computer Academic and General Training, but its availability wording is inconsistent between sections. IDP India says to book within 60 days and ielts.org says to sit it within 60 days of your original test, so plan for both to fall inside that window. Not every organisation accepts a retake result, so ask the receiving organisation first.

Are the lessons taught in Hindi?

No. Sessions are taught in English only, so explanations are not given in Hindi or another language. If you want a classroom or a teacher in the same room, a local institute or in-person tutor will fit better, because every Band Booster lesson is online.
