One-to-one online coaching, not an IELTS class in Mumbai
This is private online coaching rather than a classroom course. Mike holds the Cambridge CELTA, is based in Hanoi and teaches every session himself, live on Google Meet and in English only.
In his own IELTS Mike scored 7.5 overall and 8.5 in Speaking (about Mike). Three results have been reported back to Mike, each anonymous: 6.0 to 7.5 overall, 5.5 to 7.0 in Writing and 6.5 to 8.0 in Speaking. These are individual outcomes, not averages, and no band is promised: progress depends on your starting point and the work you do between sessions.
A lesson covers the skill you choose: Listening, Reading, Writing (Task 1 and Task 2, marked against the public band descriptors) or Speaking (Parts 1, 2 and 3 in the real test format), with feedback during the session and written progress notes in your account afterwards; a lesson can be recorded on request. See IELTS Speaking coaching (its prices are for Vietnam), IELTS Speaking tutor for India and IELTS Writing feedback.
Time difference: Hanoi is 1 hour 30 minutes ahead of Mumbai
Hanoi is 1 hour 30 minutes ahead of Mumbai all year, so a lesson at 19:00 in Hanoi is at 17:30 in Mumbai. Indian Standard Time is UTC+5:30, according to the National Physical Laboratory of India. The IANA time zone database lists India (Asia/Kolkata) at that offset with no daylight-saving rule since 1945, and Vietnam, Hanoi included, at a flat UTC+7 since 1975, also with none, so neither place currently changes its clocks.
| Mumbai time | Hanoi time |

IELTS test centres in Mumbai: what IDP India and ielts.org list
IDP India's own pages do not agree on how many Mumbai-area computer entries there are. The "IELTS on Computer centres" tab of its contact page and its UKVI list name four: Mumbai (Andheri East), Mumbai (Lower Parel), Navi Mumbai and Thane, the UKVI list writing them as Mumbai, Mumbai - Lower Parel, Navi Mumbai - CBD Belapur and Thane. The list on its IELTS on Computer page, headed "Find your nearest IELTS on Computer test centre", names three: Mumbai, Mumbai - Lower Parel and Thane, with no Navi Mumbai entry. ielts.org's finder lists one more, in Malad West. Band Booster is a private tutor, not a test centre or the exam board, so you book the test with a provider. British Council India's IELTS page says it was announced that from 25 July 2021 IDP will be the sole distributor of IELTS testing in India; see the India page.
These details come from IDP IELTS India's pages, ielts.org and British Council India's IELTS page, as read in October 2026. The sources differ in places and lists change, so treat this as a guide, not a venue directory. It gives no street addresses, fees or dates; confirm the exact venue on your own booking. The sources list the entries differently:
| Source | Mumbai-area entries it shows |
|---|---|
| Contact page, "IELTS on Computer centres" tab, list headed "IELTS on Computer Test Centres" | Mumbai (Andheri East), Mumbai (Lower Parel), Navi Mumbai and Thane |
| IELTS on Computer page, list headed "Find your nearest IELTS on Computer test centre" | Mumbai, Mumbai - Lower Parel and Thane; no Navi Mumbai entry |
| IELTS for UKVI (UK Visas and Immigration) test centres list | Mumbai, Mumbai - Lower Parel, Navi Mumbai - CBD Belapur and Thane, each tagged "IELTS on computer", "UKVI Approved" and "One Skill Retake" |
| ielts.org test centre finder (India) | Mumbai: IDP Education India at Lower Parel and Andheri East, plus a school (Malad West); Navi Mumbai - CBD Belapur and Thane: IDP Education India |
- Church Gate and Lower Parel. IDP India's Mumbai page lists three IDP offices, at Andheri, Church Gate and Thane, under a test-centre heading but does not say which hold the exam. On the contact page Church Gate appears only among student placement branches, so it is not treated as a test venue. Lower Parel is on the computer and UKVI lists but not on the Mumbai page.
- Registering for the test. The Mumbai page has an online registration panel for choosing a computer-delivered test date; its test-type selector is not tied to a venue.
- The ielts.org finder. ielts.org's finder lists, for Mumbai, IDP Education India entries at Lower Parel and Andheri East, both tagged Computer and One Skill Retake, and a third, at a school in Malad West, with neither tag and no operator named. IDP India's pages do not list the Malad West entry, so this page does not say who runs it; confirm your venue on your booking.
Is IELTS in Mumbai on computer, and how is Speaking held?
IDP India's lists point to IELTS on computer: its UKVI list tags each Mumbai-area entry "IELTS on computer". Its pages say IELTS on Paper has been discontinued and present IELTS Writing on Paper (Listening and Reading on computer, Writing by hand), while ielts.org says Writing on Paper is planned from mid-2026 in selected countries, which it does not name. Yet the Mumbai page still carries an "IELTS on Paper" block, so this page does not say whether any paper-based test or Writing on Paper is available in Mumbai; confirm the test type on your booking.
On Speaking, ielts.org's ways to take IELTS page says that for IELTS on computer at a test centre it is a face-to-face session with a trained examiner, while its Guide for Test Takers says face to face or via video call. IDP India's IELTS on Computer page describes a video call interview and its paper versus computer page says face to face. This page does not say how Speaking is delivered in Mumbai, so read your own booking.
Which IELTS test and score you need
The organisation that will receive your result decides which test you need (Academic, General Training or IELTS for UKVI) and what score counts, so ask it before you book; this page states no target score. See Academic or General Training and IELTS scores for study abroad.
One Skill Retake in Mumbai
IDP India's One Skill Retake page says the option is available in all cities across India and names Mumbai, and its UKVI centre list tags all four Mumbai-area entries "One Skill Retake"; its availability wording is not consistent between sections, so rely on your own centre's confirmation. ielts.org's One Skill Retake page says the original full test must have been IELTS on computer, the retake must be sat within 60 days, and it can be used once per original test. It describes the option for Academic and General Training, and this page does not say whether a UKVI test can be retaken this way, so ask your centre. That page also says to check that your test centre offers it before you book the full test.
IDP India words it as booking within 60 days, so treat sitting the retake within 60 days as the safe rule. ielts.org advises asking the organisation receiving your result whether it accepts One Skill Retake before booking. See One Skill Retake or full retake; no band is promised either way.
Before test day: practice material and how lessons fit
ielts.org's on test day page says to bring the same ID you used when booking, or you will not be allowed to take the test. It gives 2 hours 40 minutes for Listening, Reading and Writing in one session, without saying which delivery mode that covers; its test-type pages give Listening about 30 minutes, Reading 60 and Writing 60 (2 hours 30 minutes), so treat the total as roughly 2 hours 30 to 40 minutes.
ielts.org's preparation resources page lists sample tests. For on-screen practice, see computer-delivered IELTS in India.
This is general teaching advice, not guidance from IDP India or ielts.org, and it promises no band:
- Build stamina. Try a timed run of Listening, Reading and Writing in one sitting, allowing roughly 2 hours 30 to 40 minutes.
- Get your Writing marked. Write a Task 1 or Task 2 answer in the time allowed, by hand if your booking is Writing on Paper, and have it marked against the public band descriptors.
- Speak aloud. Speaking is three parts in 11 to 14 minutes. Use the Speaking Part 2 timer and the cue card themes.
Lesson cost, the 30-minute trial and rescheduling
The booking page shows your price in your own currency before you pay. India is in the same regional price tier as Vietnam; the India page explains how payment works. A regular lesson lasts 60 minutes, and a paid 30-minute trial can be taken once per student, on a first booking. You can reschedule at no charge up to 12 hours before a slot; a cancellation inside 12 hours is not refunded. The test fee is separate and is shown by the test provider you book with.
