What IELTS Online is, according to the British Council in Bahrain
The British Council's IELTS Online page for Bahrain, read in October 2026, says that if you need to take IELTS Academic, you can take it from home or from any private location with a stable internet connection. Your Speaking test is held with a trained examiner by video call. Its dates, fees and locations page describes the option as IELTS Online (IELTS Academic only), so if you need General Training this is not the version for you; see Academic and General Training.
Unless a sentence says otherwise, the points below about the test come from the British Council's Bahrain pages (IELTS Online, dates and locations, and results). They can change, so check each point there before you book. Band Booster IELTS is a private tutor, not a test centre: it does not register you, and this page quotes no exam fee and no test date.

Is IELTS Online enough for what you need it for?
This is the question to settle before you book. The British Council's Recognition section says that IELTS Online is widely recognised by universities and other education providers, and also that it is not accepted by immigration authorities. If a visa or immigration process is your reason for taking IELTS, that process decides which test it takes, and this page cannot advise on your case. If you are looking at a UK visa route, our page on IELTS for UKVI in Bahrain covers a separate test with its own rules.
For any organisation you are applying to, such as a university or an employer, the British Council still asks you to contact it before you book and confirm that it accepts the type of test you are choosing. A general statement that the test is widely recognised does not tell you what your own organisation accepts. A visa rule and an admission rule are separate decisions made by separate bodies, so an answer from one does not carry over to the other. For the score figures that Bahraini institutions publish for IELTS, see IELTS scores asked by Bahrain universities. Those figures concern the score, not whether an institution takes IELTS Online, which only the institution can answer.
Questions to put to the organisation
General advice from Band Booster IELTS, not from the British Council:
- Do you accept IELTS Online, or only IELTS taken at a test centre?
- Do you need IELTS Academic specifically? IELTS Online is Academic only.
- What will you accept as proof of the result, and how should it reach you?
- Which score do you require, and does the requirement change by programme or by year?
Keep a copy of the reply.
Why this page does not name who accepts it. It names no organisation that accepts IELTS Online and states no score requirement. The British Council calls the test widely recognised by universities and other education providers, yet still asks you to confirm with your own organisation, so the answer for you can only come from them. Requirements change: confirm with the organisation and the provider before you pay for a test.
Planning the day at home
Speaking usually comes before the other sections and may fall on a different day from them, so check the details the British Council gives you for your sitting and treat the Speaking test as its own appointment.
General advice from Band Booster IELTS, not from the British Council:
- Install the software before the day. The British Council recommends doing it a day before the test and sends the download link by email. Do not leave it to the morning, so that any problem turns up while you can still ask the provider about it.
- Choose the room and the devices in advance. You need a computer or laptop with a working camera and a private, well-lit room where nobody will walk in for the full two hours and fifty minutes. Have your valid passport and a phone or tablet ready for the room scan during check-in.
- Practise Speaking on a video call, not only face to face. Your examiner will be on a screen, so get used to talking to one.
- Practise answering on a screen. Do some Listening, Reading and Writing practice on a computer, not only on paper, so the format does not feel new.
The Academic test you are preparing for
IELTS Online is the Academic test, so the Academic Reading and Writing are the ones to practise; they differ from General Training. The standard IELTS Academic format is below. The British Council's page and the details it gives you for your sitting decide anything specific to your test.
| Section | Standard format |
|---|---|
| Listening | 4 parts and 40 questions; each recording is played once |
| Reading | 60 minutes, 40 questions, 3 sections |
| Writing | 60 minutes. Task 1: at least 150 words describing a chart, graph, table, diagram or process. Task 2: at least 250 words, an essay. Task 2 counts twice as much as Task 1 |
| Speaking | 11 to 14 minutes in three parts; for IELTS Online, by video call with a trained examiner |
Scores run from 0 to 9 in half-band steps, and the overall band is the average of the four skills rounded to the nearest half band. The IELTS band score calculator does that arithmetic for you.
Results and the Test Report Form
The British Council says IELTS Online results arrive between 6 and 8 calendar days after you take the test. If a deadline depends on your result, count from the longer end of that range and leave a margin, because a published range is not a promise. Our page on IELTS results in Bahrain sets out the timings that the British Council and IDP publish and also covers the eTRF.
The British Council's results page says IELTS Online results are electronic only: you download the electronic Test Report Form (eTRF) from the Test Taker portal, and it does not issue an additional paper Test Report Form. You can print the eTRF or email it to the organisations you are applying to, or send your results direct to the organisation through the portal. The same page says that the British Council sending a TRF directly to the institutions you are applying to is not applicable to IELTS Online. Ask the organisation what it accepts as proof of the result.
Booking: the British Council, IDP and the test-centre option
IELTS Online is described on the British Council's Bahrain site, which is where to read the current terms and book. IDP's Bahrain pages, as read in October 2026, did not list IELTS Online, so if you would rather test with IDP, ask IDP separately before you plan around it (IDP Bahrain test dates). Fees and dates are set by the providers and can change, and this page quotes no exam fee and no test date.
If you would rather sit the test at a venue, or you are under 18 (the British Council's IELTS Online page asks for test takers aged 18 or older), see booking IELTS in Bahrain and what happens on test day for ID, age, cancelling and special arrangements, and online IELTS tutor for Manama for the venues that IDP, the British Council and ielts.org list. For how formats compare across the Gulf, see computer-delivered IELTS in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman.
How lessons with Mike fit in
Band Booster IELTS is a private tutoring service, not a test centre. It is independent of the British Council and IDP, does not register you for any test, sets no exam fee or date, and issues no results. A lesson is practice with a teacher, not an IELTS test, and it does not run on the Inspera software.
Mike holds the Cambridge CELTA, teaches from Hanoi, Vietnam, and scored 8.5 in Speaking in his own IELTS (about Mike). Every lesson is one-to-one and live on Google Meet in English, with feedback during the lesson rather than days later, written progress notes in your account afterwards, and a recording on request. Because Speaking in IELTS Online is held by video call, a Google Meet lesson is a natural place to practise Parts 1, 2 and 3 in the real format while looking at a screen. Writing Task 1 and Task 2 can be marked against the public band descriptors. See IELTS Speaking coaching, IELTS Writing feedback, Listening and Reading; those pages are written for Vietnam, so ignore their prices. The Speaking Part 2 timer helps you time the long turn.
Booking a lesson from Bahrain
Bahrain is in the higher regional price tier, above the Vietnam price. The booking page shows your price in your own currency, with the payment options, before you pay, and its calendar shows every slot in your own time zone. A regular lesson lasts 60 minutes, and a paid 30-minute trial can be taken once, on your first booking. You can reschedule at no charge up to 12 hours before a lesson, and there is no subscription and no package. No band is guaranteed: progress depends on your starting point and the work you do between lessons.
The page for Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman explains regional pricing and the booking steps. Questions first? Message Mike on WhatsApp or Telegram at +84 383 390 963 (a Vietnam number), or email mkcenter007@gmail.com.
