What this page covers
After you sit IELTS in Bahrain, the practical questions are when the result arrives, how to see and send it, how long it stays usable, and whether to ask for a re-mark or retake one skill. Two providers answer them, the British Council and IDP, and their pages do not always agree, so each point names the provider that says it.
Read on the British Council Bahrain and IDP pages in October 2026. Rules and wording change, so confirm each point on your provider's own page before you act on it. This page quotes no exam fee and no test date.
Venues and formats are on our Manama page, and the general retake comparison is on IELTS One Skill Retake: fee, how to register, limits; this page adds what is specific to Bahrain.
How long results take: what each provider says
| Provider and page | Test type | What it says |
|---|---|---|
| British Council Bahrain, results | IELTS on computer | Results typically arrive within two days |
| British Council Bahrain, results | IELTS Online | 6 to 8 days |
| IDP Bahrain, results | IELTS on computer | 1-5 days after your test |
The two providers give different ranges for computer tests, and both are published ranges, not promises. As general advice, if a deadline depends on your result, count from the longer end of your provider's range and leave a margin. The British Council's table also lists other test types, which this page does not cover. For what IELTS Online involves, see IELTS Online at home in Bahrain.
Seeing your result: the online view and the eTRF
IDP Bahrain. IDP says you can view your IELTS results online for 28 days, and that you need the passport or ID number you used when you registered for the test.
British Council Bahrain. The British Council says you can download the electronic version of your Test Report Form (eTRF) from the Test Taker portal 1-2 days after your test, and that IELTS results will not be disclosed over the phone or through email.
Sending your result to institutions: the five-copy rules
| Provider | What the page says |
|---|---|
| British Council Bahrain | It can send up to five additional copies of your Test Report Form (TRF) directly to the institutions you are applying to (it says this is not applicable to IELTS Online) |
| IDP Bahrain | Up to five copies of your TRF are posted electronically, at no charge, to the organisations you listed on your IELTS application form |
In both cases the copies go to organisations you name when you book. IDP posts to those you listed on your application form. The British Council asks you to include the relevant addresses when you book your test, with the full postal address of each institution. Its page says the service is not applicable to IELTS Online and attaches an administration fee only to copies beyond the five it provides. This page quotes no exam fee and no fee for extra copies.
Before you book, list the institutions that need your result; see also IELTS scores asked by Bahrain universities.
How old can a result be?
The British Council says organisations will usually not accept results that are more than two years old, unless you provide evidence that you have actively maintained or tried to improve your English since the test. The receiving organisation sets its own rule, so ask it from which date it counts and whether that exception applies. A One Skill Retake does not extend this: the British Council says your results will be valid for two years from the original test date.
Re-marking (Enquiry on Results)
A re-mark is a review of the marking of a test you already sat, not another sitting, and nobody can say beforehand whether a score will change.
- British Council Bahrain: you need to apply for a re-marking no later than six weeks after the test date, and the Enquiry on Results fee will be refunded if your score is increased for any section of the test.
- IDP: its One Skill Retake page says that to combine an Enquiry on Results on your original test with a retake, you must request it within two weeks of the original test date for Listening, Reading and Writing, and wait for your remark status before registering for the retake. The sentence concerns those three skills; for Speaking, ask IDP what applies.
These limits come from different providers, so read each as that provider's own rule, and ask yours which date it counts from. The British Council says to make the request through the test centre where you took your test; it does not go to Band Booster.
One Skill Retake in Bahrain: the rules, provider by provider
One Skill Retake lets you sit one of the four skills again instead of the whole test. A rule on one provider's page is not automatically a rule for the other. IDP's retake page is its general page, reached from the Bahrain site, and says availability depends on the test location; the IDP rows are IDP's own rules, not Bahrain-only ones.
| Point | What the page says | Provider |
|---|---|---|
| How many | You can retake one skill once per original test | British Council Bahrain |
| How many | You can complete your retake once per full IELTS test | IDP |
| Time limit | Sit the retake within 60 days of your original test | British Council Bahrain |
| Same company | The test centre you choose must be the same company through which you took the original test | IDP |
| Same passport | Use the same valid passport you used to book the original test | IDP |
| Tests covered | IELTS Academic and General Training on computer, and IELTS for UKVI on computer | British Council Bahrain |
| Where to book | Log into the Test Taker Portal | British Council Bahrain |
| Your scores | Valid for two years from the original test date; you can still use your original score if you prefer | British Council Bahrain |
Same provider, same passport
IDP calls it essential that the centre you choose belongs to the same company that ran your original test, and asks for the same valid passport. So an IDP original means an IDP retake; for a British Council original, follow its page and the Test Taker Portal. For ID rules at booking and on test day, see booking IELTS in Bahrain and test day.
Where it is listed in Bahrain
IDP's Manama sessions carry a “One Skill Retake available” label, and ielts.org's Bahrain finder showed a One Skill Retake badge on all five Bahrain centre listings when read. A label shows that a listing carries the retake, not that a session is open inside your 60 days or that the venue belongs to the company that ran your original test, so check a date in your own provider's session list.
IELTS for UKVI
The British Council lists the retake for IELTS for UKVI on computer too. Whether a visa route accepts a retake result is for the body that sets the route to say; this page gives no visa advice (see IELTS for UKVI in Bahrain).
Which organisations accept it
IDP publishes a page listing organisations that accept One Skill Retake; under Bahrain it lists two entries, including the Bahrain Institute of Banking and Finance (BIBF). That is an example of what IDP lists, not an endorsement or a partnership: Band Booster has no connection with BIBF, IDP or the British Council. Acceptance is the receiving organisation's decision, so ask it directly which result it will read, your original or the retake. This page names no required score.
Will one skill move your overall band? A worked example
The overall band is the average of the four skills, rounded to the nearest half band (an average ending in .25 rounds up to the next half band, and one ending in .75 to the next whole band), so retaking one skill moves the overall band in some cases and not in others. The scores below are made up; they are nobody's results.
| Case | Listening | Reading | Writing | Speaking | Average | Overall |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| A, first scores | 6.0 | 6.5 | 5.5 | 6.5 | 6.125 | 6.0 |
| A, if Writing were 6.0 | 6.0 | 6.5 | 6.0 | 6.5 | 6.25 | 6.5 |
| B, first scores | 6.5 | 6.5 | 6.0 | 6.5 | 6.375 | 6.5 |
| B, if Writing were 6.5 | 6.5 | 6.5 | 6.5 | 6.5 | 6.5 | 6.5 |
In case A, half a band in one skill moves the overall band; in case B the same half band changes nothing. An organisation may ask for an overall band, a minimum in each skill, or both, so read its requirement first; the band score calculator does the arithmetic with your own scores. No retake can be promised to change any score.
Questions to ask before you pay for a re-mark or a retake
General advice, not guidance from IDP or the British Council.
- Your provider: is there a retake session on a date inside my 60 days, at a venue I can reach?
- Your provider: is the retake with the same company as my original test, and which passport do I need?
- Your provider: which date counts for the re-mark limit, and does asking for a re-mark affect my retake?
- The organisation that will read your result: do you accept One Skill Retake results and a Test Report Form sent electronically, and how old may a result be?
Where lessons with Mike fit
Band Booster IELTS is a private online tutor, not a test centre. It is independent of IDP, the British Council and Cambridge University Press & Assessment, and it does not register you, set test fees or dates, issue results, handle re-mark requests or book retakes: all of that is done with your test provider.
What a lesson offers is preparation. Mike holds the Cambridge CELTA, teaches from Hanoi and scored 8.5 in Speaking in his own IELTS (about Mike). Lessons are one-to-one, live on Google Meet in English, and can concentrate on the one skill you plan to retake: Speaking, Writing, Listening or Reading. Those pages are written for Vietnam, so ignore their prices; your own price is on the booking page. No band is guaranteed: progress depends on your starting point and the work you do between sessions.
General teaching advice, not from IDP or the British Council: a retake fits one clear gap, so look at all four scores first and count the 60 days from the original test date.
Price and booking from Bahrain
Bahrain is in a higher regional price tier than Vietnam. The booking page shows your price in your own currency, with the payment options, before you pay. A paid 30-minute trial can be taken once, on your first booking; there is no subscription or package, and rescheduling is free up to 12 hours before a session.
