The short answer: IDP's tiers first, then your venue's words
IDP Qatar's reschedule and cancel page sorts a request by how many days remain before your Listening, Reading and Writing date. A transfer carries no administrative fee far enough ahead, carries one closer in, and is not allowed in the last 4 days; cancelling has its own line.
That is IDP's table, and it is not the whole picture. The page says additional policies might apply in your country, the Qatar Aeronautical Academy publishes rules of its own, and UDST says it follows IDP's policy while its fee list counts in weeks. Treat your booking confirmation and your venue as the first place to check, and IDP's table as the general rule.
Read in October 2026. Rules change, so check the provider's page and your booking confirmation before you act. This page quotes no exam fee, refund amount, percentage or test date.
This is a comparison of published rules, not advice about your booking. Near a deadline, contact your venue first.
IDP Qatar's tiers at a glance
IDP's page counts both its transfer lines and its cancellation lines from the date of your Listening, Reading and Writing, which can differ from your Speaking day. Check which date your booking confirmation shows.
| How far before that date | Moving to a new date (a transfer) | Cancelling |
|---|---|---|
| 15 or more days | No administrative fee. | Part of the test fee can be claimed back. |
| 5 to 14 days | Allowed; an administrative fee is charged on the test fee paid. | The test fee is non-refundable. |
| The last 4 days | No transfer is allowed. A transfer request in this period is treated as a cancellation. | The test fee is non-refundable. |
Read together, the last row means a request to move in the last 4 days is handled as a cancellation, with the test fee non-refundable. That combines two lines of IDP's table and is this page's own reading: confirm it with your venue.
IDP's page puts percentages on the fee and the refund. This page does not repeat them, as they can change: read them on IDP Qatar's reschedule and cancel page.
What IDP's table covers, and what it leaves out
IDP's page says the policy applies to IELTS on computer tests only, excluding IELTS for UKVI tests, and asks you to check with your local IDP test centre for in-country policy. If your booking is for IELTS for UKVI in Qatar, ask your venue which terms apply. IDP lists separate terms for One Skill Retake, so the tiers above are not its rules; see One Skill Retake or a full retake. For the format, see computer-delivered IELTS in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman. This page does not cover other booking providers: if you booked with one other than IDP, read the terms that came with your booking and ask it.
Illness or injury: special consideration and a medical certificate
IDP's page says that if illness, injury or another exceptional circumstance beyond your control stops you attending or affects your performance, you can apply for special consideration at your test centre, before the test and up to two calendar days after the test date. Further down, it also says that if you cannot attend because of a serious medical condition, a medical certificate provided within 5 days of your test date can bring a refund minus the local administrative cost.
An application is a request, and no outcome is promised. This page does not say who qualifies or what evidence a venue accepts, so read IDP's page and ask your venue.
What the venues add
Qatar Aeronautical Academy
The Academy's IELTS page carries a cancellation and transfer policy with four points that bear on a change:
- A transfer with no administration fee is possible if you apply two weeks before the test date.
- The same booking can only be transferred once.
- The new date must be within three months of the original; a transfer to a date further out is treated as a cancellation.
- A case for exceptional circumstances can be made up to five calendar days after the test date if you did not attend; the case and its evidence must reach the centre by then.
For fee amounts, check the Academy's page. For check-in times, the Speaking day and results, see IELTS at the Qatar Aeronautical Academy.
UDST
UDST (the University of Doha for Science and Technology) says on its IELTS page that it follows the standardised rescheduling and cancellation policies laid out by IDP. Its fee list also has lines counted in weeks, not days: a refund, cancellation or transfer more than 5 weeks before the test day carries no charge, while one from 5 weeks before to 5 days after the test day carries a charge and is allowed only in exceptional cases. These lines do not match IDP's day-based table, so ask UDST which applies to your booking before you rely on either. For the rest of its logistics, see IELTS at the UDST Testing Centre in Doha.
No change after a refused entry
The Academy says anyone arriving after 8:45 am is marked absent and cannot take the test, with no transfers or refunds, and says the same for a photocopy of the ID or a different ID or passport. UDST says no transfers or refunds will be allowed for late arrivals or for incorrect photo ID issues.
Side by side
| Point | IDP Qatar's page | Qatar Aeronautical Academy | UDST |
|---|---|---|---|
| Transfer with no administrative fee | 15 or more days before the Listening, Reading and Writing date. | If you apply two weeks before the test date. | Says it follows IDP's policy; its fee list shows no charge more than 5 weeks before the test day. |
| How many transfers | No limit is given here; ask your venue. | The same booking can only be transferred once. | Says it follows IDP's policy; no limit is given here. |
| After the test | Special consideration up to two calendar days after the test date; separately, a medical certificate within 5 days of it for a serious medical condition. | Exceptional-circumstance cases up to five calendar days after the test date, if you did not attend. | Its fee list allows requests from 5 weeks before the test day to 5 days after it only in exceptional cases. |
The Academy counts in weeks where IDP counts in days, and this page does not say how its rules and IDP's table combine for a booking at the Academy. Ask the venue, and keep its answer with your booking confirmation.
Before you change anything: what the booking itself needs
IDP Qatar says you can book online or at your nearest IDP branch. Its booking checklist adds:
- You upload a clear copy of your ID to book, and you bring the same ID on test day.
- If you are under 18, IDP says you need written consent from a parent or guardian to book.
One caution: that checklist article is dated 2021, and its last paragraph gives an older cancellation wording counted in weeks, which does not match the policy page. Use the policy page for the tiers and ask your venue which wording it applies.
Accepted documents are compared in what to bring to your IELTS test in Qatar. A worry about a result rather than a booking is a separate process: see IELTS results in Qatar.
Fees: where IDP says to look
Band Booster IELTS does not set the exam fee or the test dates. IDP Qatar's test-dates page says that for updated fees and pricing you should visit its dedicated test-centre pages, so read the fee for your venue there. Fees change, so this page quotes no exam fee and no test date. Lesson prices are in the last section.
Before you ask for a change: a checklist
General advice, not a provider rule. Where your booking confirmation says something different, follow it.
- Open your booking confirmation and note the venue, the format (computer or IELTS for UKVI) and the date of your Listening, Reading and Writing.
- Count the days from today and see which tier above you are in.
- Read your venue's page: at the Academy, the two-week line, the one-transfer limit and the three-month limit; at UDST, IDP's table and UDST's week-based fee lines.
- If the cause is illness or injury, ask at once, because the windows are short: two calendar days after the test for special consideration and 5 days for a medical certificate (both on IDP's page), and five calendar days for exceptional circumstances at the Academy.
- If your date sits near a boundary such as 14 or 15 days, or 4 or 5 days, ask the venue how it counts the days before you submit.
- Ask for the outcome in writing and keep it with your booking confirmation.
Where Band Booster fits, and its separate lesson rule
Band Booster IELTS is a private online tutor, independent of IDP and the British Council. It is not a test centre: it does not register you for the test, set the exam fee or dates, or issue results. A change to a test booking is made with the provider and venue you booked with.
Lessons with Mike follow Band Booster's own rule, not a test rule:
| Point | Your IELTS test booking | Lessons with Mike |
|---|---|---|
| Moving | Set by your provider and venue; see the tiers above | Reschedule at no charge up to 12 hours before the slot |
| Cancelling | Set by your provider and venue; see the tiers above | A cancellation inside 12 hours is not refunded |
The 12-hour rule covers lessons only, and test rules do not affect your lessons. If your test date moves, book lessons as you need them: there is no subscription and no package.
Mike, a CELTA-certified teacher based in Hanoi who scored 8.5 in Speaking in his own IELTS, teaches every lesson himself, one-to-one and live on Google Meet in English, with Speaking practised in the real three-part format and Writing marked against the public band descriptors. See about Mike, IELTS Speaking coaching and IELTS Writing feedback.
Qatar is in the higher regional price tier, and the booking page shows your price in your own currency before you pay. A paid 30-minute trial can be taken once, on your first booking. No band is promised: progress depends on your starting point and the work you do between sessions.
