What this page covers and where it comes from
This page sets out the practical details of sitting IELTS at the UDST Testing Centre, the testing centre of the University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) in Duhail North. Almost everything comes from UDST's own IELTS page. The address line comes from IDP Qatar's test-centre finder. Both were read in October 2026 and both can change, so use this page as a guide and confirm on those pages and in your own booking confirmation.
Band Booster IELTS is a private online tutoring service. It is not a test centre, it has no connection with UDST, and it is independent of IDP and the British Council. It does not register students, hold a place on a test or issue results. This page quotes no exam fee, test date or closure date.
Where the centre is
| Source | What it says |
|---|---|
| IDP Qatar's test-centre finder | UDST Testing Centre, Building 3, Room 263 68 Al Tarafa, Duhail North, Qatar |
| UDST's IELTS page | The centre is on the 2nd floor of Building 3 |
The finder's line is copied as IDP prints it. The finder's card for this centre carries the name of the University of Doha for Science & Technology, and UDST's own site gives the university's address as Duhail North, Doha, Qatar. The address line itself names Duhail North, Qatar and does not use the word Doha, so check the venue name and room on the session you book. UDST describes itself as an approved venue for IELTS tests; that is the university's own description of itself. For the other IDP centres in the area, see the Doha overview and IELTS at the Qatar Aeronautical Academy in Al Khulaifat.
Opening days and registration hours
UDST's page gives the days and hours below. These are UDST's office hours for registration. What UDST says about the Registration Desk on test day is under test-day timing below.
| Day | What UDST's page says |
|---|---|
| Sunday to Thursday | Office hours for registration: 7:30 am to 2:30 pm |
| Friday | Closed |
| Saturday | Closed to the public, open to test takers only |
Our own reading of the table, not UDST's wording: the registration hours it lists are Sunday to Thursday only, and Saturday is for people who are sitting a test, not for general visits. If you need the registration office, plan around Sunday to Thursday.
Closed for Eid, National Day and Sports Day
UDST's page says the Testing Centre is closed on National Day and on Sports Day. It also says the Testing Centre is closed during the announced public holiday periods for Eid Al-Fitr and Eid Al-Adha, and that in the Eid periods there are no tests and results are not available for collection. This page prints no closure dates; check UDST's page and your confirmation email before you plan a visit near any of these days. If you intend to collect a Test Report Form around Eid, check the dates first, because UDST says results cannot be collected during that period.
Registration and ID
Registration at UDST needs a valid original ID: a passport or a Qatar National ID. For IELTS for UKVI, UDST's page says an original passport is required and the Qatar National ID is not accepted. What to bring on test day, the differences between venues and the rule for IELTS for UKVI are set out on What to bring to your IELTS test in Qatar, so they are not repeated here. How booking, transfers and cancellations work is on changing or cancelling an IELTS booking in Qatar.
Test-day timing: 7:30 am registration and the 8:45 am cut-off
UDST's page says that, unless you are otherwise instructed, IELTS registration opens at 7:30 am at the Testing Centre Registration Desk, and it asks you to refer to the confirmation email you receive before test day. The firm rule comes straight after that: anyone arriving after 8:45 am will not be able to take the test, and UDST says no transfers or refunds will be allowed for late arrivals.
Our own reading, not UDST's wording: on test day the window the page describes runs from 7:30 am to 8:45 am, and your confirmation email takes priority over this page. This page gives no test start time; follow the details in your confirmation email for your own reporting and test times.
General advice, not UDST's:
- Treat 8:45 am as the latest possible arrival, not as a target.
- Work out your route to Building 3 the day before, so that getting there is not a new problem on test day.
- Have the ID you registered with ready the night before.
The computer test room and what you sit
For the computer-delivered test, UDST's page describes small test rooms with a maximum of 25 candidates and individual headphones provided for the Listening test. How computer-delivered IELTS works across the region is explained on the computer-delivered IELTS page for Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman.
The four parts of IELTS have the lengths below. These are general IELTS facts, not UDST's schedule, which is in your confirmation.
| Part | Length | What it involves |
|---|---|---|
| Listening | 30 minutes | 40 questions in 4 parts; each recording is played once |
| Reading | 60 minutes | 40 questions in 3 sections |
| Writing | 60 minutes | Task 1 (at least 150 words, about 20 minutes) and Task 2 (at least 250 words, about 40 minutes); Task 2 counts twice as much as Task 1 |
| Speaking | 11 to 14 minutes | Part 1, then Part 2 (1 minute to prepare, 1 to 2 minutes to speak), then Part 3 |
Speaking: usually the same day, sometimes not
UDST's page says the Speaking test is usually held on the same day as the other parts. In exceptional cases it might be up to 7 days before or 2 days after the other parts of the test, and that is the centre's decision. UDST's English page also tells candidates to arrive 30 minutes before their scheduled Speaking time. UDST's summary for the computer-delivered test says all parts are done on the same day, while its Speaking section allows the exceptions above. The page says you will receive an email and SMS with the details of your test, including your Speaking time, in the week before your test date, so follow those details and your confirmation email for your own Speaking time.
Two consequences, as our own reading: if your Speaking falls before the written parts, your Speaking preparation has to be ready earlier than you may have planned; and if it falls after them, it is a separate visit on another day. Speaking is a live interview in three parts, scored on Fluency and Coherence, Lexical Resource, Grammatical Range and Accuracy, and Pronunciation, which count equally. IELTS Speaking coaching covers all three parts in the real test format.
After the test: collecting your results at UDST
- The Test Report Form (TRF). UDST's page says your results are issued on a Test Report Form, which you must pick up from the UDST Testing Centre in person.
- SMS. Provisional results by SMS cannot be sent to a non-Qatari mobile number, UDST's page says. If your number is registered outside Qatar, ask the centre how you will find out your result. UDST's page also lists computer-delivered results as available online; how online viewing works is on the results page linked below.
- Someone else collecting for you. The person picking up your results must bring the completed Authorization Form, your original photo ID used on test day, and their own original ID. Ask the centre where to get the form before you send anyone.
- Eid. UDST says results are not available for collection during the Eid holiday periods, when the centre is closed.
This page gives no collection hours; ask the centre. How long results take, viewing them online, extra copies, remarks and delayed or withheld results are on IELTS results in Qatar. For IELTS for UKVI at this centre, see IELTS for UKVI in Qatar.
A short checklist before test day
- Read your confirmation email and follow the reporting, test and Speaking times in it.
- Plan to arrive well before 8:45 am; UDST says registration opens at 7:30 am unless you are told otherwise.
- Have the ID you registered with ready: a passport or a Qatar National ID (for IELTS for UKVI, a passport only; see the ID page linked above).
- If your test or your results collection is near Eid, National Day or Sports Day, check UDST's closure information first.
- If your Speaking might be on another day, note it and arrive 30 minutes before the time you are given.
- Decide how you will collect the Test Report Form: in person, or through someone you authorise with the form and two IDs.
- If your mobile number is not a Qatari one, do not count on an SMS.
What this page leaves to other pages
Exam fees and dates are set and changed by the providers, so check them on the provider's own pages. UDST's own English requirements for its programmes are a different question from the test-day logistics here; they are covered on IELTS for UDST: admission scores and the Amiri scholarship. If you need to retake one part only, read One Skill Retake or a full retake.
Where online lessons with Mike fit
Every lesson is one-to-one on Google Meet in English with Mike, who holds the Cambridge CELTA, teaches from Hanoi and scored 8.5 in Speaking in his own IELTS (about Mike). Lessons are online only, so you study from home or work in Qatar; the venue you choose for the test does not change where you study. Speaking sessions run Parts 1, 2 and 3 in the real test format and Writing sessions work on Task 1 and Task 2. Feedback comes during the session, sessions can be recorded on request, and written progress notes appear in your account afterwards.
The booking calendar shows each slot in your own time zone. Qatar is in the higher regional price tier, and the booking page shows your price in your own currency before you pay. A paid 30-minute trial can be taken once, on your first booking, and you can reschedule at no charge up to 12 hours before a session.
Results students have reported back, anonymously, went from 6.0 to 7.5 overall, from 5.5 to 7.0 in Writing and from 6.5 to 8.0 in Speaking. No band is promised: progress depends on your starting point and the work you do between sessions. For questions worth asking any tutor, see the guide to choosing an online IELTS tutor.
