What this page reads, and what it does not
This page is built from IDP Taiwan's reschedule and cancellation page (the Traditional Chinese version), as it stood on 24 October 2026. It also cites one other IDP Taiwan article, where the two pages disagree (see below). Everything here applies to bookings made with IDP Taiwan. British Council Taiwan's rules were not read for this page, so if you booked there, use that provider's own site.
Band Booster IELTS is a private tutoring service. It is not IDP and not a test centre, it cannot change, cancel or refund an IELTS booking, and it sets no exam fees. IDP states the handling fee and the refunds in its two main tables as percentages of the original fee; this page quotes those percentages and no exam fee amount. It does not tell you whether to change or cancel, only what IDP says.
Check IDP's current page before you act. Rules can change, and IDP's own pages do not all agree (see "When IDP Taiwan's pages disagree" below). Read IDP Taiwan's reschedule page again before you apply, and ask IDP Taiwan if anything is unclear.
Regular IELTS: the three day bands
IDP Taiwan sorts a request by how many days remain before the test. For a regular IELTS booking (Academic or General Training) its page gives three bands, and says this change table does not apply to IELTS for UKVI. A change means moving the date, the test centre or the group; a cancellation asks for a refund. IDP counts the 35th day as part of the first band ("35 days or more").
| Days before the test | Documents for a change | Change (date, test centre, group) | Cancel and refund |
|---|---|---|---|
| 35 days or more | None | No handling fee | No reason needed; 80% of the original fee is refunded |
| 7 to 34 days | None | Handling fee of 20% of the original fee | Only IDP's listed refund circumstances, with documents (see "Refunds from 34 days before the test" below) |
| 6 days before to test day | Required | Only for the four reasons below, with documents and the 20% handling fee | Only IDP's listed refund circumstances, with documents (see "Refunds from 34 days before the test" below) |
Three points about the table. First, the 20% is a share of the original fee (IDP writes 原價, "original price"), and IDP's page links to a separate test fee page for that figure. This page quotes no exam fee amount, so check the figure there. Second, 7 to 34 days before the test no documents are needed for a change, but the handling fee still applies. Third, IDP's refund table splits the days differently from its change table: its second row runs from 34 days before the test to test day.
Changes from 6 days before the test: four reasons, with proof
From 6 days before the test up to test day, IDP Taiwan says it accepts a change only for the four reasons below, each with documents and with the 20% handling fee. Any other reason is not accepted in this period.
| Reason | What IDP names as proof |
|---|---|
| Illness | A diagnosis certificate (診斷證明書). Medicine bags and receipts are not accepted as proof. |
| Serious accident | IDP's examples are a car accident or a lost-passport report. |
| Military service | The military service document (兵單). |
| Funeral | The funeral notice (訃聞). |
A change request is reviewed. If it passes, the change can be made. If it does not, IDP says the handling fee is returned on the 25th of the following month and no change is made.
Refunds from 34 days before the test: a different list
For a refund from 34 days before the test to test day, IDP lists its own set of circumstances, and each needs documents: a serious illness from which recovery within three months is difficult (a diagnosis certificate), a serious accident that makes taking the test within three months difficult (for example a car-accident report), military service, or a funeral. An approved refund in this period is 80% of the original fee. This list is worded differently from the four change reasons above, so read both lists against your situation.
How to apply: paid bookings go online, and the 5-day limit
- Paid bookings apply online. For a booking that has been paid for, IDP says to use its online system and the option labelled 「考試改期、轉組、轉場申請」 (reschedule, group change or centre transfer) or 「退費申請」 (refund request); applications by email or phone are not accepted. IDP's page separately tells you to email your proof documents to the two addresses it lists, and its One Skill Retake section asks for retake refund requests by email, so read the section for your test type. For a booking that has not been paid for, IDP's FAQ says to email IDP instead.
- Within 5 days after the test. The application, the payment and the documents must all be completed no later than 5 days after the test, and late submissions are not accepted. How that limit works alongside the day bands is something to confirm on IDP's current page.
- One change per booking. Each booking can be changed once only. After the change, IDP says, you cannot apply again for a second change or for a refund.
- IELTS and IELTS for UKVI cannot be converted. They are different test types, so a regular IELTS booking cannot be turned into an IELTS for UKVI booking, or the other way round.
- You cannot choose the Speaking time after a transfer. After a transfer the Speaking time is not open for choice; the test centre tells you the adjusted Speaking time once the transfer is done. IDP adds that anyone who cannot accept a different Speaking time should not apply for a transfer.
Five questions to settle before you apply
- Which test type is the booking: regular IELTS, IELTS for UKVI, Life Skills or One Skill Retake? Each has its own table or rule.
- How many days are left, and which row of the table does that put you in?
- If you are inside 6 days, does your reason match one of the four, and do you hold the document IDP names?
- If you are asking for a transfer, can you accept a Speaking time that you do not choose?
- Have you already used the one change this booking allows?
IELTS for UKVI and Life Skills: a separate table
IDP Taiwan gives IELTS for UKVI and IELTS Life Skills their own table, with different day bands from regular IELTS. The rows from 3 to 14 days before the test through to test day are labelled 視同取消 ("treated as a cancellation"), and each carries a refund percentage.
| Days before the test | Change | Refund on cancellation |
|---|---|---|
| 14 days or more | Can be applied for; no handling fee | 75% of the original fee |
| 3 to 14 days | Treated as a cancellation | 50% |
| 1 to 2 days | Treated as a cancellation | 25% |
| Test day | Treated as a cancellation | 0% |
The first two rows overlap on one day: IDP prints 14 days in both the first band ("14 days or more") and the 50% band ("3 to 14 days"). Check IDP's current table to see how your date is treated. For which centres IDP and the UK government list for UKVI in Taiwan, see IELTS for UKVI in Taiwan.
One Skill Retake bookings follow another rule
IDP gives One Skill Retake its own transfer and refund rule, and says it does not apply to full tests; if you booked a retake, read that section of IDP's page separately from the tables above. For a retake, IDP's table treats a transfer or postponement as a cancellation. Asked 7 or more days before the test, the refund is full; shorter notice gets a partial refund or none. IDP's retake section asks for refund requests by email. This page does not quote the amounts. To see what the retake is and how it compares with a full retake, read IELTS One Skill Retake or a full retake.
When IDP Taiwan's pages disagree
IDP Taiwan's booking checklist article (dated 23 July 2020 on the page; the reschedule page shows no publication date) says that if you cancel or postpone the test more than 5 weeks before the test date, a full refund is possible. The dedicated reschedule page says 35 days or more, with 80% of the original fee refunded. The two pages differ on the amount (a full refund against 80%) and use slightly different cut-offs (more than 5 weeks against 35 days or more).
This page follows the dedicated reschedule page, because it sets out each band in a table, and treats the article as a conflict to check rather than a second rule. Which one applies to your booking is for IDP to confirm, so read IDP Taiwan's current reschedule page and ask IDP Taiwan if the two still differ before you rely on either.
If your test date moves, your lessons are a separate booking
Lessons with Mike are booked separately from your IELTS test. Band Booster IELTS cannot change, cancel or refund an IDP booking, and it does not register students or set exam fees. Lessons have their own rule: you can reschedule a lesson at no charge up to 12 hours before the slot, cancellations inside 12 hours are not refunded, and there is no subscription or package to commit to.
Mike is a CELTA-certified teacher based in Hanoi who teaches every session himself, one-to-one over Google Meet and in English rather than Chinese; his own IELTS Speaking score is 8.5 (about Mike). The booking page shows each slot in your own time zone, and your lesson price in your own currency before you pay. If your test date changes, you can choose new lesson times there, availability permitting. How much difference lessons make depends on your starting point and the work between sessions, and no band is promised. The booking page is currently available in Simplified Chinese, not Traditional, so it may open in Simplified Chinese; its language menu offers English.
