The short version. IDP Taiwan accepts only a valid passport. Enter your name in capitals exactly as on it, put the passport number in the "ID Number" field, and upload the passport at the latest 7 days before the test. Ask the test centre about special arrangements before you register, and about a tax-ID invoice straight after booking. Where IDP's pages disagree, follow the booking system.
Passport only: the one ID IDP Taiwan accepts at registration
IDP Taiwan's test dates page tells candidates to upload a clear, non-reflective valid passport when they register. It says only a valid passport can be used, that other ID documents do not count, and that without an upload you lose eligibility for the test, with no reschedule or refund.
On test day you must take the original passport you registered with; the test dates page says that without it eligibility is cancelled, with no date change or refund. IDP's FAQ adds that no photocopy or other ID can replace the original, and that if you hold two valid passports you bring the one used at registration.
The passport has to be valid. After the upload the booking system can show a message that the document must be valid on or after the test day and has not been verified yet; IDP's FAQ says this only reminds you that the passport has not been reviewed and does not mean the upload failed. Check the expiry date against your test date before you book, and ask IDP if it is close.
Name format and the ID Number field
The same test dates page explains the form: your name goes in capital letters exactly as on your passport, and your passport number goes in the registration system's "ID Number" field. IDP's own example is in the table.
| Registration field | IDP's example | What IDP says to enter |
|---|---|---|
| OTHER NAME | HUI-JEN | Capital letters, exactly as on the passport |
| FAMILY NAME | WANG | Capital letters, exactly as on the passport |
| ID Number | — | The passport number |
A tutor's suggestion, not an IDP rule: copy your name from the passport's personal-details page letter by letter, keeping any hyphen. If the name you registered differs from the passport in any way, ask IDP before the upload deadline.
Uploading the passport: deadline, file size and confirmation
Three details come from IDP Taiwan's FAQ collection:
- Deadline. Upload the passport at the latest 7 days before the test; without it you cannot sit the test or ask for a refund or date change.
- File size. The file must be smaller than 1.5 MB.
- Confirmation. IDP says within about 10 working days of the upload you receive a passport confirmation or a request to upload again.
Read "7 days before the test" as the last possible day, not a target. About 10 working days is longer than 7 days, so a candidate who uploads close to the deadline could still be waiting for IDP's reply when it passes; that is this page's own reading, not an IDP statement. Upload on the day you book, and contact IDP Taiwan if no confirmation has arrived as the test nears.
If you renew your passport close to the test
The same FAQ gives two timing rules for a passport renewed shortly before the test, and a step that goes with them:
| Passport renewed | What to bring on test day, according to IDP's FAQ |
|---|---|
| 10 or more days before the test | The new passport only. |
| 2 to 6 days before the test | Both the new and the old passport; otherwise you cannot enter the test. |
The FAQ adds a step. If you have already uploaded a passport and then renew it, email the new passport details to the test centre (the FAQ specifies a subject line naming your test date, venue and English name, and asks you to put your old passport number in the message) and wait for its confirmation reply. A candidate whose renewed passport the centre was not told about cannot sit the test, with no refund or change of date. If your renewal falls outside the two timings in the table (for example 7 to 9 days before the test), ask IDP Taiwan before test day.
Booking online or in person, and booking from outside Taiwan
Online or in person. IDP Taiwan's booking checklist says you can register online, in person at an IDP IELTS office, or through its registration partners (授報單位). The checklist carries a 23 July 2020 byline, so check in the booking system which routes it offers today.
Residence. IDP Taiwan's non-resident test policy article, dated 24 January 2025, applied its non-resident rule to paper tests only. For computer IELTS (see computer-delivered IELTS in Taiwan), IDP says that whether or not you are a Taiwan resident you can book without proof of residence.
After you book: Speaking time, reminders and no admission ticket
- Speaking time. IDP Taiwan's January 2024 article on its new registration system says you pick a Speaking time when booking, but the exact time is confirmed by email 2 days before the test and can change for computer tests.
- No admission ticket. The FAQ says there is no admission ticket: you receive a reminder email 2 days before the test and an SMS 1 day before.
Both lines mention an email 2 days before; this guide cannot tell whether that is one message or two, so give a correct email address and mobile number when you register. For the day itself, see IELTS test day in Taiwan.
Tax-ID (統編) invoices: ask straight after booking
If you need an invoice made out with a company tax ID (統編), IDP Taiwan's booking checklist says to email the test centre immediately after you finish booking and to make sure you receive a reply. It says a late request cannot be reissued. IDP's FAQ words this more loosely (it says the invoice is sent with the results and asks you to contact the centre after paying and before the test), so writing straight after booking is the safer reading. Use the contact details on IDP Taiwan's own pages.
Candidates under 18: two IDP pages, two different timings
IDP Taiwan's booking checklist says that if the candidate is under 18, a consent form must be provided in order to register successfully. The FAQ says the guardian-signed consent form is handed in on test day. The two pages differ on when the form is needed and this page cannot tell which matches the current system, so confirm in the booking system and with IDP Taiwan before you book. This is general information, not legal advice.
Special arrangements: contact the test centre before you register
If you have a vision, speech or other need, IDP Taiwan's booking checklist asks you to email the test centre before registering (the address is on the checklist). The ielts.org test centre finder for Taiwan says in general terms that candidates with a disability or mobility requirement should contact their local test centre in advance.
What counts as a special need
IDP Taiwan's special arrangements page says a health condition can count, and names hearing or vision impairment, a learning difficulty, a medical condition and breastfeeding.
What IDP lists
Two IDP pages list adjustments, worded slightly differently:
- Booking checklist: Braille paper, enlarged questions, enlarged prompts on Speaking cards, special Listening tests including a lip-reading version, magnifying equipment, word-processing software and voice-activated software.
- Special arrangements page: modified large-print and Braille papers, enlarged and Braille Speaking cards, a lip-reading Listening test and extra test time.
These are IDP's general lists; ask the test centre which are available for your test format and venue.
How a request is handled
- The test centre handles each request individually and will ask for details of your circumstances.
- Contact your venue before you register, because the next suitable test date can differ depending on your need.
- Tell the centre early and allow enough notice for a modified paper or special arrangement; this is the wording on IDP Taiwan's IELTS for migration page.
- Medical devices such as hearing aids may be taken into the test room only if you applied before the test with a doctor's diagnosis document; otherwise they are not allowed in (IDP Taiwan's what to bring page).
How much notice counts as enough is a question for the centre. This is not medical advice, this page cannot promise a request will be granted, and Band Booster IELTS cannot arrange or decide any of this.
How old are these pages? A note on sources
All of this was read on IDP Taiwan's site on 24 October 2026. The pages differ in age:
- Booking checklist: the byline says 23 July 2020, but the page also carries IDP's notice that Taiwan IELTS is fully computer-based from 1 February 2026, so it has been updated since.
- FAQ collection: byline 8 October 2021, edited in 2026; it may lag the live booking system.
- New registration system article: 22 January 2024.
- Non-resident policy article: 24 January 2025.
- Test dates and special arrangements pages: dedicated pages; if an older article disagrees, trust them and the booking system more.
This guide covers IDP Taiwan only; other providers' rules are not described here.
What Band Booster IELTS does, and what it does not
Band Booster IELTS is a private tutoring service, not a test centre or the exam board. It does not register candidates, set the exam fee or test dates, or change any ID or upload rule; for all of that, use IDP Taiwan. Mike is a Cambridge CELTA-certified teacher based in Hanoi, with 8.5 in IELTS Speaking (about Mike). He teaches every lesson himself, one-to-one on Google Meet, in English rather than Chinese.
IDP confirms the exact Speaking time only 2 days before the test, so book Speaking practice for the week before and adjust once the email arrives (IELTS Speaking coaching).
Taiwan (UTC+8) is one hour ahead of Hanoi (UTC+7) all year. The booking page shows each time in your own time zone, plus your price in your own currency before you pay. A paid 30-minute trial can be taken once, on your first booking, and no band is promised: progress depends on your starting point and the work between sessions.
