Taught in English, not Chinese, and only online
Everything is live over Google Meet with Mike in Hanoi, so nothing is taught in person in Taipei or anywhere else in Taiwan. Lessons are taught in English throughout. If you need lessons in Chinese, this is not the right service for you.
The booking page is currently available in Simplified Chinese, not Traditional, so it may open in Simplified Chinese; its language menu offers English.
Taipei time: one hour ahead of Hanoi, all year
In the IANA time zone database, Taiwan (Asia/Taipei) is UTC+8 and Vietnam is UTC+7, and neither has a current daylight-saving rule (the last rule for Taiwan ended in 1979). Taipei is therefore one hour ahead of Hanoi all year: 20:00 in Taipei is 19:00 in Hanoi.
The calendar on the booking page shows slots in your own timezone, so there is nothing to convert. Which are open depends on Mike's calendar, and no particular hours are promised.
Taiwan's price tier, and more about the lessons
Taiwan is in the higher regional price tier, so the price is above Vietnam's; the booking page shows yours in your own currency before you pay. For how sessions work, Mike's background and group courses, see online IELTS tutor, about Mike and private tutor versus group course (these pages quote Vietnam prices).
Taking IELTS in Taiwan: IDP and the British Council
Band Booster IELTS does not register students or set fees or dates, so this page quotes none. According to their Taiwan sites, IDP and the British Council both run IELTS in Taiwan. The ielts.org test-centre finder lists Taiwan centres in Taipei, Taichung, Tainan and Kaohsiung. For registration, fees, dates and venues, go to IDP Taiwan or British Council Taiwan.
The points below were read on the two providers' Taiwan sites and on ielts.org in October 2026; check them again when you book.
- Computer only. IDP Taiwan says that after 31 January 2026 IELTS in Taiwan is offered only on computer and paper tests are no longer available. British Council Taiwan says IELTS and IELTS for UKVI there are currently offered only on computer. Some provider pages still carry older paper wording, so confirm the format when you book. IELTS Life Skills, a separate test, is not covered here.
- Speaking. Listening, Reading and Writing are taken on computer. IDP says Speaking is still a face-to-face interview with an examiner; the British Council says some of its centres run Speaking by video call, still at the test centre, with the same content and marking criteria as in person. Confirm the Speaking format when you book.
- ID. Both providers accept only a valid passport for registration; the British Council says the national ID card cannot be used.
- Results. Most candidates get computer results within a few days, but British Council Taiwan's results table allows up to 8 working days.
- UK visas. Both providers also offer IELTS for UKVI in Taiwan. ielts.org says any IELTS test taken for a UK Visas and Immigration visa must be taken at an official IELTS test centre.
One Skill Retake, and which test to take
Both providers offer IELTS One Skill Retake in Taiwan. Once you have the result of a full IELTS on computer test, you can retake one of Listening, Reading, Writing or Speaking within 60 days of the original test date. It is not offered at every venue, so check that your test centre offers it before you book the full test; IDP's One Skill Retake page sets out its conditions.
British Council Taiwan's results page says there is no limit on retaking IELTS, but that a higher score is unlikely unless you have first worked hard on your English. To choose between a single-skill and a full retake, see One Skill Retake or full retake (it has no Taiwan section); if you are unsure which version to sit, see IELTS Academic vs General Training. This page states no score requirements: ask the university, employer or authority that will receive your score which band you need and whether a retake result is accepted.
