Whose rules this guide covers
Every rule below is IDP Thailand's, from its results, remark and additional report form pages, one notice and, for the retake points, its One Skill Retake page, all read in October 2026. The British Council's Thailand pages were not used for any rule here, and its rules may differ: if you sat your test with the British Council, ask it directly about results, remarks and report forms (its Thailand IELTS dates, fees and locations page is linked only so you can find the provider). This page quotes no exam fee, remark fee, report form fee or test date, and it is general information, not advice about your own result.
Checking your result with IDP Thailand
IDP Thailand's results page lists three ways to get a result.
| Route | What IDP Thailand's page says | Worth knowing (general advice) |
|---|---|---|
| Online check | IDP's online check asks for your name, your passport or ID number and your date of birth. | Have the same details you registered with to hand, and use IDP's own results page. Band Booster does not host a results check. |
| SMS | SMS is listed as a way to check your result. The pages used for this guide say no more about it. | Ask IDP how SMS results work for your booking. |
| Physical TRF | The Test Report Form is sent by post or can be collected in person at your nearest IDP IELTS test centre. | That is IDP's description of the physical form. It does not say whether you will receive one for your own booking, so check your confirmation or ask IDP, including whether a computer-test booking also gives you a digital TRF. |
How soon does a computer result arrive?
IDP Thailand's results page says computer results are released 1 to 5 days after the test date. That is IDP's stated release time, so treat it as typical rather than promised. Our computer-delivered IELTS in Thailand page compares the providers' results timings, so that is not repeated here.
Sending your report form to a university, employer or authority
IDP Thailand's additional report form page says all additional TRFs are sent from IDP Thailand directly to the institution you choose. That covers additional TRFs only: it does not say that any institution will accept a result or how long delivery takes. The page lists fees, which this guide does not quote. For IELTS on Computer test takers it says you can access and download your Electronic Test Report Form from your account, and it says to verify that your receiving institution accepts electronic copies before ordering. Before you order an extra copy (general advice, not IDP's rules):
- Ask the university, employer or authority whether it wants a TRF sent by IDP or accepts an electronic copy, which recipient details to give and by when, because this guide cannot say how fast a copy arrives.
- If you have asked for a remark, or may do so, ask IDP whether to wait for the outcome before ordering copies.
How long a result stays valid
IDP Thailand's pages give a two-year limit, but they count it from different points.
| What IDP Thailand says | Where |
|---|---|
| Your IELTS results are valid for 2 years from the date of your test results. | Results page, validity section |
| IELTS scores are generally valid for 2 years from the test date. | Same results page, FAQ |
| A Test Report Form older than 2 years from the test date cannot be re-issued. | Additional report form page |
This guide cannot say whether the date of your test results and your test date are the same day, so count from the earlier one. The results page also says validity may extend beyond 2 years for skilled migration applications in some countries; whether that could apply to you is for IDP and the organisation to say. A university, employer or authority may also apply its own policy on how old a result can be, so ask it.
Asking for a remark (Enquiry on Results)
A remark asks for your test, or one or more of its sections, to be marked again: IDP Thailand says you can request one on the whole test or any part of it (Listening, Reading, Writing or Speaking). It calls the request an Enquiry on Results (EOR) and explains it on its remark page. The table sets out the main points.
| Point | What IDP Thailand's remark page says | Reading it (general advice) |
|---|---|---|
| Deadline | You must apply within 6 weeks. The page words this two ways: 6 weeks from your test date, and 6 weeks from the date shown on your Test Report Form. IDP's One Skill Retake page words a shorter limit for Listening, Reading and Writing: two weeks from the date of the original full test. | IDP's pages word the limit differently. Count from the earliest date, and if Listening, Reading or Writing is involved, confirm with IDP which limit applies before you rely on six weeks. |
| Turnaround | EOR results are available within 2 hours to 21 days, depending on several factors including the number of sections requested for remark. | That is IDP's range, not a typical wait; this guide cannot say where your request will fall in it. |
| Who re-marks | For Writing and Speaking, re-marking is completed by experienced senior IELTS examiners. | IDP's wording covers Writing and Speaking only; do not assume a Listening or Reading remark works the same way. |
| Outcome | After that second assessment, the score either stays the same or is higher, depending on the senior examiner's rating. | IDP says this about Writing and Speaking. A request can end with no change; nobody can promise a higher score. |
| Withdrawing | Once submitted and paid, your request cannot be cancelled or withdrawn. | Decide before you pay, not after. |
The steps for making a request are on IDP's remark page; this guide does not cover them.
Before you ask for a remark
General advice built from the table above, not an IDP rule:
- Write down your test date and the date shown on your TRF, and count from the earlier one. Ask IDP about the two-week wording above before you rely on six weeks.
- Decide which section you are asking about and why. A mark from a practice test, a mock or a lesson is not an exam score, so a gap between it and your result is not proof of a marking error.
- If someone is waiting for your result, allow for the long end of IDP's range.
- If you are also thinking of a retake, IDP Thailand's retake page says to wait for your remark status before registering for a One Skill Retake against the same full IELTS test. Our One Skill Retake in Thailand page covers IDP's retake rules.
Results that are delayed or withheld
IDP Thailand publishes a notice about delayed or withheld IELTS results. It says results can be withheld beyond the standard release period so that additional checks can be made, and that you should contact the test centre where you took your test. This page repeats no day count or date from the notice, because its wording about the standard release period is not the same as the 1 to 5 days on IDP's results page for computer tests: read the notice itself.
This guide cannot say why a particular result is held or how long it will take; only IDP can. General advice: check that the details you used for the online check match the ones you registered with.
Reading the numbers on your result
Each of Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking is given a band from 0 to 9 in half-band steps. The overall band is the average of the four, rounded to the nearest half band: a .25 remainder rounds up to the next half band and a .75 remainder rounds up to the next whole band. As arithmetic only, not anyone's result: bands of 6.5, 6.5, 6.0 and 6.0 add up to 25, an average of 6.25, which rounds up to an overall 6.5. The band score calculator does the sum for you. Within Writing, Task 2 counts twice as much as Task 1.
After a result: remark, retake or more practice
A remark is not the only response; these are general pointers. If you accept the result but one skill is below what you need, a One Skill Retake may fit, and One Skill Retake or a full retake compares the options. If several skills are below your target, more preparation before you sit the full test again is the natural next step. Whether a score is enough is for the university, employer or authority to say: a visa minimum and an admission requirement are different things, and both vary and change (see IELTS scores for study abroad).
Where Band Booster fits, and what it does not do
Band Booster IELTS is a private online tutor, not a test centre. It does not register candidates, set exam fees or test dates, issue, hold or send results or Test Report Forms, or request or process a remark, and it is not connected to IDP, the British Council, any university or any government body. Remarks, extra report forms and questions about withheld results go to IDP, or to the British Council if you sat the test there.
What it offers is preparation. Mike teaches every lesson himself, one-to-one on Google Meet, in English, not in Thai. He holds the Cambridge CELTA, is based in Hanoi and scored 8.5 in Speaking in his own IELTS (more about Mike). He can help you read a result and decide what to practise next: Speaking coaching follows the real three-part format, and Writing feedback marks Task 1 and Task 2 against the public band descriptors. Feedback in a lesson is practice, not an exam score. Any price on those two pages is Vietnam's; your price is on the booking page.
Thailand and Hanoi are both on UTC+7 all year, according to the IANA time zone database, and the booking calendar shows times in your own timezone. A paid 30-minute trial can be taken once, on your first booking. No band or change in a result is promised. See also online IELTS tutoring for Thailand, and a Thai version of this page.
