People searching for "IELTS Oxford" or "IELTS Brighton" usually want to know two things: is there a venue, and is it the right kind of test? The official ielts.org test centre list for the United Kingdom answers the first. When we read it on 31 October 2026 it showed 111 results for the whole country, with the British Council name on the entries we read. Some addresses appear more than once as separate entries, so the number of results may be larger than the number of buildings.
What ielts.org shows for this region
The table below is a snapshot, not a booking tool. Rooms, formats and flags change, so use it to know what to look for, then confirm on the provider's page.
| Town | Address as listed | Formats shown | UKVI Approved flag |
|---|---|---|---|
| Oxford | 21 St Michaels Street, OX1 2EB | Computer; One Skill Retake. A separate entry at this address shows Computer and Computer (Writing on Paper), without One Skill Retake | Not shown |
| Oxford | Oxpens Road, OX1 1SA | Computer; One Skill Retake | Not shown |
| Cambridge | East Road, CB1 1PT | Computer; One Skill Retake | Shown on some entries, not on others |
| Brighton | New England Street, BN1 4GW | Computer; One Skill Retake | Not shown |
| Brighton | 33 Palmeira Mansions, BN3 2GB | Computer; One Skill Retake | Not shown |
| Canterbury | University Road, CT2 7LJ | Computer; One Skill Retake | Not shown |
| Guildford | 229-233 High Street, GU1 3BJ | Computer; One Skill Retake | Not shown |
| Reading | Whiteknights Campus, RG6 6UR | Computer; One Skill Retake | Not shown |
| Ipswich | Belstead Road, IP2 9DR | Computer; One Skill Retake | Not shown |
| Chelmsford | Bishop Hall Lane, CM1 1SQ | Computer; One Skill Retake | Not shown |
| Milton Keynes | 399 Silbury Boulevard, MK9 2AH | Computer (Writing on Paper); Computer | Not shown |
Several of these addresses are on university campuses or inside other buildings, so the street address and postcode are the safest way to find the entrance. Check the venue's own instructions on your booking confirmation.
How to read the formats
- Computer is the format shown against every entry in the table. Check the booking page for how each section is taken on your date.
- Computer (Writing on Paper) is shown against an entry in Oxford and against the Milton Keynes entry. Check the booking page to see how Writing is taken.
- One Skill Retake is shown against most entries, but not against the Milton Keynes entry or the Oxford entry with Writing on Paper. Our guide to the One Skill Retake in the UK covers who accepts it.
UKVI: do not assume
Of the addresses on this page, only Cambridge East Road shows a "UKVI Approved" flag on ielts.org, and only on some of its entries. If you need IELTS for UKVI for a visa application, check the Home Office list of approved test centres, linked from the GOV.UK page on secure English language tests. That page names the IELTS SELT Consortium as the provider of IELTS for UKVI and IELTS Life Skills, and says not to contact the test centre directly. It was updated on 26 October 2026. We did not compare the two lists address by address, so check the GOV.UK list for the venue you plan to use. For a comparison of the two kinds of test, see IELTS for UKVI or standard IELTS, and for the full national list by city see IELTS for UKVI test centres in the UK.
Before you book
- Decide whether your university, employer or visa route needs a particular kind of IELTS. Ask them, or read their page.
- Open the provider's booking page and check the venue, format and available dates there. We state no fees or dates here because they change.
- Check the ID you must bring. Our page on ID rules for UKVI tests goes through it for UKVI.
- Plan your journey. A campus venue can have its own entrance and opening hours on test day.
We are not a test centre and do not register candidates or set fees. Everything on this page is general information from the official pages linked above, not personal advice.
