The ielts.org list headed Showing 111 results for United Kingdom covers the whole country. Reading it for London, I found 22 listings, but they share only ten postcodes, because several venues are listed more than once and three addresses have three listings each. Treat the table below as a map of where to look, not as a booking tool. Dates, availability and prices are on the provider's booking page, and I state none of them here.
The ten London addresses
I identify each venue by street and postcode only. Names of the colleges and buildings that host a venue change, so the street address is the safer way to match what you see on the booking page.
| Postcode | Street address | UKVI flag on ielts.org | Formats shown |
|---|---|---|---|
| WC2B 5LQ | 16 Stukeley Street (three listings, one with Entrance E) | Yes, on the Entrance E listing only | Computer, One Skill Retake |
| N1 9JP | 200 Pentonville Road | No | Computer, One Skill Retake |
| E1W 2SF | Tobacco Dock, Wapping Lane | Yes | Computer, One Skill Retake |
| E15 1NF | 1 Salway Road | No | Computer, One Skill Retake |
| SE1 8LF | 25 The Cut | No | Computer, One Skill Retake |
| CR0 2LX | 4 Dingwall Road, Croydon (three listings) | Yes | Computer, One Skill Retake; some listings show One Skill Retake only |
| W6 0TA | 65 Westcroft Square | No | Computer, and Computer (Writing on Paper) |
| E20 1JQ | 1 Redman Place, Stratford | Yes | Computer, One Skill Retake; one listing shows One Skill Retake only |
| W14 9BL | Gliddon Road, Barons Court (three listings) | Yes, on two of the three | Computer, One Skill Retake |
| SW19 4JZ | 41 Worple Road | No | Computer, One Skill Retake |
The flags and formats can differ between listings for the same address. For example, at 4 Dingwall Road two of the three listings show One Skill Retake alone, and at 1 Redman Place one listing does. Do not read that as a different venue: it is how the list is built.
What the flags and formats mean
- UKVI Approved is a flag on the ielts.org list. For a visa or settlement application, check the official government list. The gov.uk guidance on secure English language tests links a list of approved test centres and says the list has been assessed as meeting Home Office requirements. I have not compared that list with the ielts.org flags, so check it before you book anything for an application.
- Computer means the test is taken on a computer. See computer-delivered IELTS in the UK for what changes.
- Writing on Paper is shown at one London address, 65 Westcroft Square, W6 0TA, on the day I read the list. If you want to handwrite the Writing paper, confirm it on the booking page for your date.
- One Skill Retake is shown on most London listings. It is not the same as a full test, and who accepts it varies. Read IELTS One Skill Retake in the UK before you plan around it.
An example from one venue page
The ielts.org page for 1 Redman Place, Stratford lists UKVI Academic, UKVI General Training, and Life Skills at A1 and B1, each with a Book A Test link. It also says to check with your local test centre for more information. That is a useful habit: the venue page and the booking page are the places that settle a question, not a summary like this one.
A sensible way to choose
- Decide first whether you need a standard IELTS or IELTS for UKVI. IELTS for UKVI or standard IELTS explains the difference.
- If you need UKVI, narrow the table to the rows with a flag, then match the address against the gov.uk list of approved centres.
- If you need Writing on Paper, start with the W6 address, then confirm on the booking page.
- Open the booking page for the address you chose. Only there will you see what can be booked, and when.
I have not listed travel times, stations, opening hours or prices, because the venue pages I read do not give them. Check the route and arrival time on your booking confirmation. For the UKVI-only view across every city, see IELTS for UKVI test centres in the UK. This is general information from the official pages, not personal advice.
Who runs the lessons, and how they can help with this
Band Booster is not a test centre: we do not register candidates, set fees or choose your venue. What Mike offers is one-to-one lessons on IELTS Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. He holds a Cambridge CELTA (July 2017), is based in Hanoi, Vietnam, has 12+ years teaching English and IELTS in Vietnam, Turkey and Iran, and scored 8.5 in Speaking himself. He teaches every session live on Google Meet, in English.
Lessons can help you prepare for the format you chose. Mike marks Writing Task 1 and Task 2 against the public band descriptors and runs Speaking Parts 1 to 3 in the real format with feedback in the moment. The booking calendar shows each slot in your own time zone. Hanoi is 7 hours ahead of the UK in winter and 6 hours ahead in summer, so check the times on the calendar before you pay. Use the booking page to see what is open, or read about Mike first.
