IELTS Test Centres in Thailand by City: Where IDP and the British Council Are Listed

Last updated:

IDP's Thailand pages list IELTS centres in about a dozen cities, from Bangkok and Nonthaburi to Khon Kaen, Pattaya, Phuket and Hat Yai, and the ielts.org directory also shows British Council venues, for example in Chiang Rai, Khon Kaen and Korat. Band Booster IELTS is a private online tutor, not a test centre: Mike, a CELTA-certified teacher in Hanoi (8.5 in Speaking), teaches one-to-one on Google Meet.

Price: THB 648.76 for a 60-minute one-to-one lesson; THB 194.63 for the paid 30-minute trial. Amounts use the same price tiers as the booking page, in your local currency at exchange rates set on 6 October 2026. The booking page shows the exact amount before you pay, and PayPal charges the US-dollar equivalent (USD 19.25 for a 60-minute lesson).

This page goes through the Thai cities where IDP's pages and the ielts.org test-centre directory list IELTS test venues, including the British Council venues the directory shows, as read in October 2026. Band Booster IELTS is not a test centre and registers nobody for the test: it is a private online tutoring service in which Mike, a Cambridge CELTA-certified teacher based in Hanoi who scored 8.5 in IELTS Speaking, teaches one-to-one in English on Google Meet, and the booking page shows your lesson price in your own currency before you pay.

Everything below was read on IDP's Thailand pages, the ielts.org directory and the British Council's Thailand pages in October 2026. Lists, addresses and session days change, so confirm each point with the provider before you book. This page quotes no exam fee and no test date.

Band Booster IELTS is not a test centre or the exam board. It does not register candidates, set exam fees or dates, or arrange anything on test day, and it is not affiliated with IDP, the British Council or Cambridge. Mike's CELTA is a teaching qualification. The lists below say nothing about British Council rules, which may differ, so read those on the British Council's Thailand IELTS page.

How to read the lists

No single page lists every IELTS venue in Thailand, and the sources do not always agree.

City by city

Each row says only what its source says. Universities are named; other venues are described by address or area. Addresses are copied as the source prints them, spelling included, and the weekly patterns are IDP's own wording rather than a schedule.

Bangkok and around

CityWhat the sources list
BangkokIDP's Bangkok page says IELTS on Computer is available daily at multiple IDP centres across Bangkok. Both providers list several Bangkok venues; they are set out on the online IELTS tutor Bangkok page and are not repeated here. See also IDP's Bangkok page.
NonthaburiIDP lists Nonthaburi as a city of its own, separate from Bangkok. IDP's Nonthaburi page says both IELTS Academic and General Training tests are available every weekend. That is IDP's wording, so check the live schedule. The ielts.org directory also lists British Council venues in Nonthaburi.
Pathum ThaniIDP's city sentence lists Pathum Thani as a city of its own, spelled "Phathum Thani" there. IDP's Pathum Thani page covers its Rangsit venue, and the test-day guide sets out what that page says about how Speaking is arranged.

The North

CityWhat the sources list
Chiang MaiIDP's city sentence names Chiang Mai, and the ielts.org directory lists British Council venues there. How many venues each provider lists in Chiang Mai, and how Speaking and One Skill Retake are described, are on the online IELTS tutor Chiang Mai page, so they are not repeated here.
Chiang RaiIDP's city sentence names Chiang Rai, and both IDP's test-dates page and the ielts.org directory list an IDP venue there. The directory also lists a British Council venue at Chiang Rai Rajabhat University. Check both providers' pages for what is currently offered.

The Northeast

CityWhat the sources list
Khon KaenIDP's Khon Kaen page calls the city the key IELTS test hub for Northeastern Thailand and says IELTS on Computer is held every Saturday at the venue it names on that page (IDP's wording; check the live schedule). The ielts.org directory also lists two British Council venues. One is Khon Kaen University International College (KKUIC), 123 Mittraphap Rd Khon Kaen District, Khon Kaen 40002, Khon Kaen, which carries a UKVI Approved tag on some of its entries there (tags differ between entries of one venue; see the UKVI guide). The other is at 2nd Floor, C.P. Tower, 6 Maliwan Rd, Nai Mueang, Mueang Khon Kaen District, Khon Kaen, 40000.
Korat (Nakhon Ratchasima)IDP's Korat page says the test is held at a test centre near The Mall Korat, and that IDP offers IELTS on Computer every Saturday and Sunday (IDP's wording; check the live schedule). The ielts.org directory lists a British Council venue in Nakhon Ratchasima, in the Bankoh area of Mueang district.
Udon ThaniIn the ielts.org directory, the Udon Thani entry read for this page is an IDP venue, with no British Council entry. Open IDP's test-dates page and its live session list for the venue and for what is open.
Ubon RatchathaniIDP's city sentence names Ubon Ratchathani, and its test-dates page lists a venue there. The ielts.org directory shows an IDP entry and British Council entries for the city, and the British Council's dates, fees and locations page names it too. This page gives no weekly pattern for it: open IDP's test-dates page and the British Council's Thailand IELTS page for the venue and for what is open.

The East

CityWhat the sources list
Pattaya (Chon Buri)IDP describes its Pattaya venue, a language school, on its Chonburi page. IDP prints the address as "503/8-9 Pattaya, Chon Buri, Thailand 20150" and says computer tests run every Saturday and Sunday there (IDP's wording; check the live schedule). The ielts.org directory's Chon Buri entry is IDP's Pattaya venue, with no British Council entry for Pattaya.

The South

CityWhat the sources list
ChumphonIDP's Chumphon page describes the centre as conveniently located for residents of Chumphon and nearby provinces such as Surat Thani, Ranong and Prachuap Khiri Khan. The Chumphon entry read in the ielts.org directory is an IDP venue, with no British Council entry. If you live in one of those provinces, start here.
PhuketIDP's Phuket page names its centre and prints the address as "108 108-107 Moo 5 Chalermprakiat Ratchakan Thi 9 Road,Phuket District, Phuket 83000". The page says IELTS on Computer runs every Saturday and Sunday, while its FAQ says every Saturday, so rely on the live schedule. The ielts.org directory lists one Phuket entry, an IDP venue tagged Computer and One Skill Retake, with no UKVI Approved tag on that entry. The British Council's dates, fees and locations page does name Phuket, so the directory and that page differ: read both providers.
Hat YaiIDP's Hat Yai page names a language school as the centre and prints the address as "580 Poonnakan Road, Hat Yai, Chang Wat, Songkla 90110". It says IELTS on Computer is available every Saturday, although its session list also shows other days, so rely on the live schedule. The Hat Yai entry read in the ielts.org directory is IDP's, with no British Council entry.

Which provider to check, and in what order

  1. Open IDP's test-dates page and the page for your city; treat any weekly pattern as a pointer and open the live session list.
  2. Read the British Council's Thailand IELTS page and its dates, fees and locations page for what they list for your city; its rules and venues may differ from IDP's.
  3. Use the ielts.org test centre directory for Thailand as a cross-check, especially for the tags (Computer, One Skill Retake, UKVI Approved). Look at the tags on the entry for the venue you plan to book.
  4. If a provider appears in one list for a city but not in another, check that provider's own pages before deciding.
  5. After you book, rely on your booking confirmation for the venue address, the time and how Speaking is arranged.

IDP and the British Council in Thailand both state that from 22 March 2026 all IELTS tests are delivered on computer; see computer-delivered IELTS in Thailand for what changes. City pages can still carry wording from before that date, so the format shown when you book is the one that applies.

Guides for the next steps

Where one-to-one online lessons fit

Band Booster IELTS is a private tutoring service, not a test centre. Whichever city you sit the test in, the lessons are the same: online, one-to-one with Mike, live on Google Meet and taught in English, with no centre, classroom or group class in any of these cities.

Mike holds the Cambridge CELTA (July 2017), has taught English and IELTS for more than 12 years in Vietnam, Turkey and Iran, has taught more than 500 one-to-one sessions, and his own IELTS result is 8.5 in Speaking (about Mike). A 60-minute lesson covers Listening, Reading, Writing (Task 1 and Task 2, marked against the public band descriptors) or Speaking (Parts 1, 2 and 3), with feedback during the session and a written progress note afterwards in your account. You can reschedule at no charge up to 12 hours before a lesson, and there is no subscription.

A lesson is practice, not an IELTS test, and it cannot tell you which venue or format applies to your booking: your confirmation does. The booking page shows open slots in your own time zone and your price in your own currency before you pay; see the online IELTS tutor page for Thailand for how booking works here, and IELTS Speaking tutor for Thailand for Speaking. No band is promised; progress depends on your starting point and the work you do between lessons.

Choose a lesson time on your own clock

Lessons are online, so the city you sit the test in does not change how you book. The calendar shows open slots in your own time zone and your price in your own currency before you pay; a paid 30-minute trial can be booked once, on your first booking.

Common questions

Where can I take IELTS in Thailand outside Bangkok?

IDP's pages list centres in about a dozen cities, including Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Pattaya, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Khon Kaen, Korat, Udon Thani, Ubon Ratchathani, Phuket and Hat Yai. The ielts.org directory also lists British Council venues, for example in Chiang Rai, Khon Kaen and Nakhon Ratchasima (Korat). The lists differ, so check IDP's test-dates page, the British Council's Thailand IELTS page and the directory for your city. Band Booster IELTS does not run the test or register you.

Why do IDP's city counts and the ielts.org list not match?

IDP's own pages give slightly different city counts, all about a dozen, and its city sentence names Ranong although no Ranong venue appears in its venue list. The ielts.org directory repeats some venues, sometimes with different tags, so its results list is not a count of centres. Treat each list as a pointer and confirm the venue in your booking confirmation.

I live in Ranong, Surat Thani or Prachuap Khiri Khan. Where do I look?

IDP's Chumphon page says that centre is conveniently located for residents of Chumphon and nearby provinces such as Surat Thani, Ranong and Prachuap Khiri Khan. IDP's city sentence also names Ranong, but no Ranong venue appears in its venue list. Start with the Chumphon page and IDP's live session list, and check the British Council's own pages too, because they may differ.

Does the British Council also hold IELTS in these cities?

The ielts.org directory lists British Council venues in several of these cities, for example Nonthaburi, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai (Chiang Rai Rajabhat University), Khon Kaen (including Khon Kaen University International College (KKUIC)), Ubon Ratchathani and Nakhon Ratchasima (Korat). For Hat Yai, Pattaya, Udon Thani and Chumphon the directory entries read were IDP's only, and for Phuket the one entry read was IDP's, although the British Council's dates, fees and locations page names Phuket. The directory is not the British Council's own list, so check its Thailand pages before concluding that a city has no British Council venue.

How often is IELTS held in each city?

IDP's pages word it differently by city: daily in Bangkok, every weekend in Nonthaburi, every Saturday in Khon Kaen and Hat Yai, and every Saturday and Sunday in Korat, Pattaya and Phuket (Phuket's FAQ says every Saturday). IDP's live session lists can differ from these descriptions, so they are IDP's wording, not a schedule. The live session list on IDP's site, or the British Council's pages for its venues, shows what is open.

Is Band Booster IELTS a test centre, and does it register me for the test?

No. Band Booster IELTS is a private online tutor: it does not run the test, register candidates, set exam fees or dates, or arrange anything on test day. You register with IDP or the British Council, whose pages carry the fees and dates. Mike, a Cambridge CELTA-certified teacher based in Hanoi, teaches one-to-one on Google Meet in English.

Can I have lessons if I live in Chiang Rai, Hat Yai or another city, and how do I pay?

Yes. Lessons are online and one-to-one, so the city you sit the test in does not change how you book. The booking page shows your price in your own currency before you pay, and offers PayPal (cards can be used through PayPal guest checkout) and USDT on the TRC20 or BEP20 network; the bank transfer on the page is VietQR for Vietnam. A paid 30-minute trial can be booked once, on your first booking, and the exam fee is separate and set by the test provider.
