Where this page gets its details, and why they do not always agree
This page goes through the IELTS venues that IDP and the British Council list in Kuala Lumpur, then two IDP venues in Selangor, one venue at a time. It draws on three kinds of page, each read in October 2026: IDP Malaysia's own centre pages, the venue records in ielts.org's test-centre finder, and the UK Home Office's list of approved test centres outside the UK (the file dated 9 October 2026). They are maintained separately, so where they differ on a detail we show both versions and do not choose between them.
Band Booster IELTS is a private tutoring service, not a test centre. It does not register candidates, hold places or set fees, and this page quotes no exam fee or test date, because the providers set and change them. For the shorter provider-by-provider list and the booking routes, see online IELTS tutor for Kuala Lumpur; for the whole country, see the guide to IELTS test venues in Malaysia.
Jalan Ampang: IDP and the British Council in the same building
IDP Kuala Lumpur and British Council Kuala Lumpur (BCKL) are both listed at Wisma Golden Eagle Realty, 142-C Jalan Ampang, 50450 Kuala Lumpur (the street number is printed 142-C on IDP's page and 142C on the ielts.org record for BCKL). The building is the same in every record quoted here. The block and the floor are where the sources part company.
| Source (read in October 2026) | IDP Kuala Lumpur | British Council Kuala Lumpur |
|---|---|---|
| IDP Malaysia's own centre page | 6th Floor, (West Block) | Not covered |
| ielts.org venue records | 10th Floor (West Block) | 2nd Flr, West Block |
| Home Office list, file dated 9 October 2026 | 10th Floor | Two rows: a classroom in West Block, and an exam hall at 2nd Floor, South Block |
IDP Kuala Lumpur: 6th Floor or 10th Floor?
IDP's own page gives the address as 6th Floor, (West Block), Wisma Golden Eagle Realty, 142-C, Jalan Ampang, 50450 Kuala Lumpur. ielts.org gives the same building, block and street but says 10th Floor (West Block), and so does the Home Office list.
We cannot tell from the published pages which is current, so this page does not pick one. Follow the venue details in your own booking confirmation, and ask IDP before you travel if they differ from what you find online.
Two other things IDP's Kuala Lumpur page showed when read in October 2026: sessions for IELTS for UKVI (Academic) and (General Training), and a label reading "Accessible IELTS test centre". IELTS for UKVI is listed as its own test type; whether you need it is for the organisation asking for your result to say, and this page gives no visa advice. We do not know what the "Accessible IELTS test centre" label covers, so if you have an access need, ask IDP what is provided at this venue.
British Council Kuala Lumpur (BCKL): two rooms in the same building
ielts.org places British Council Kuala Lumpur at 2nd Flr, West Block, Wisma Golden Eagle Realty, 142C, Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur, 50450, and lists UKVI Academic, Academic and General Training tests there, each on computer. The Home Office list describes the British Council's presence in the building differently, as two rows: a classroom in West Block, and an exam hall, printed as "BC Kuala Lumpur - Exam Hall", at 2nd Floor, South Block.
ielts.org's West Block address and the Home Office list's South Block exam hall are not described in the same way, and we cannot say which room your session will use. Check the block and floor on your confirmation, and which provider's session you booked, since two providers share this address.
Other British Council venues in Kuala Lumpur
ielts.org lists at least three more venues under the British Council's name in Kuala Lumpur, none at the Jalan Ampang address. This page describes them by type and address, not by the operator's name.
| Type of venue | Area | Address (lines from ielts.org, lightly tidied) |
|---|---|---|
| A language centre | Kampung Baru | B-7-3, B-7-1, B-7-2, B-07-05; Block B, Unit 1-5, Megan Avenue, 2, Jalan Yap Kwan Seng, Kampung Baru; Kuala Lumpur 50450 |
| An education provider | Mont Kiara | D-05-08, Plaza, Jalan Kiara, Mont Kiara, 50480 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan |
| A branch office | Mid Valley City | 5-5 & 7-5, The Boulevard Mid Valley City, Lingkaran Syed Putra, 59200 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia |
ielts.org lists Academic and General Training tests on computer at all three venues.
British Council Malaysia's dates, fees and locations page lists three Kuala Lumpur locations (read in October 2026): Jalan Ampang, The Boulevard Office in Mid Valley City and Plaza Mont Kiara. The Mont Kiara and Mid Valley City entries appear to match two of those three by area and building. Kampung Baru is not one of the three, so ielts.org shows at least one more British Council venue in Kuala Lumpur than that list does. We cannot say why the lists differ or whether sessions are currently held at Kampung Baru, so use the venue and address on the session you book, and ask the British Council if it is not the one you expected.
IDP Kepong: the heading, the address and the session cards read differently
IDP lists a centre as Kepong. On IDP's page for it, the heading reads IDP Kepong (IELTS on Computer). The address line puts the centre at a college inside United Point Mall: Unit 01-01, Jalan Lang Emas, Taman Segambut Aman, 52100 Kuala Lumpur. The session cards give the college's name in a slightly different spelling and show no address. If you book from that page, read the venue on the session card as well as the heading, and match the mall and street against your route. We give the details as IDP prints them and make no distance claims.
Subang Jaya and Shah Alam, in Selangor
IDP Subang Jaya
IDP's page gives the address as 18, Jalan SS 15/8, 47500 Subang Jaya, Selangor. When read in October 2026 it listed IELTS for UKVI (Academic) and (General Training), and its sessions carried One Skill Retake available labels. Labels can change, so confirm the exact session with IDP; the rules for a retake are in One Skill Retake or full retake.
The separate ielts.org record "Subang Jaya (UKVI IELTS - Paper based)"
ielts.org also has a record with that name. It lists Life Skills A1 and B1 and does not list IELTS Academic or General Training, yet it prints the same street address as IDP's Subang Jaya page, 18 Jalan SS 15/8, 47500 Subang Jaya. Do not read the word Paper in its name as a sign that you can sit a paper Academic or General Training test there, and check which test and session you are booking. Whether paper IELTS is still offered in Malaysia is a different question, on which the sources disagree; computer-delivered IELTS in Malaysia sets out where.
IDP Shah Alam
IDP's page for its Shah Alam centre gives the venue as an international secondary school, on Levels 13 and 13A of Top Glove Tower, Persiaran Setia Dagang, Setia Alam, 40170 Shah Alam. On 24 October 2026 IDP's list of Malaysian centres did not tag Shah Alam with One Skill Retake, yet the sessions on IDP's own Shah Alam centre page carried the label One Skill Retake available. That is one reason not to treat the list as a complete guide: ask IDP about the exact session.
Other towns on the providers' lists
IDP's list also names Petaling Jaya, Klang and Rawang in Selangor and Nilai in Negeri Sembilan, and the British Council's list names Petaling Jaya, Bandar Sunway, Subang Jaya, Shah Alam and Bangi in Selangor (read in October 2026). This page has no venue-by-venue details for those towns and makes no claim about distance or journey time from Kuala Lumpur; start from the Malaysia-wide venues guide, then check the venue on the session itself.
How to check a Kuala Lumpur venue before you book
This is general advice, not guidance from IDP, the British Council or ielts.org, and it promises no band.
- Start from the provider you are booking with. Two providers share the Jalan Ampang address, so confirm whose session you have chosen.
- Follow your confirmation. If a floor, block or room differs between sources, follow the confirmation for your own session, and ask the provider if it is still unclear.
- Match addresses, not just names. One place can be written in more than one way: the heading, address line and session cards for Kepong on IDP's page, or a British Council venue under different names on ielts.org and on British Council Malaysia's list.
- Read labels session by session. Labels such as One Skill Retake can differ between a provider's list and its session cards, as at Shah Alam, so read the UKVI, retake and format labels on the session itself. If you may need IELTS for UKVI, ask the organisation that wants your result which test it accepts.
- Plan your own route. This page makes no distance or travel-time claims.
Format questions, such as computer or paper and how Speaking is held, are set out in computer-delivered IELTS in Malaysia. Choosing between Academic and General Training is covered in Academic vs General Training, and score targets in IELTS scores for study abroad.
Lessons with Mike for candidates in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor
Lessons are online, so none of these venues is where you study. Every lesson is one-to-one on Google Meet, live and in English, with Mike, who holds the Cambridge CELTA, teaches from Hanoi and scored 8.5 in Speaking in his own IELTS (about Mike). A session can cover Listening, Reading, Writing (Task 1 and Task 2, marked against the public band descriptors) or Speaking (Parts 1, 2 and 3 in the real test format), with feedback during the lesson. See also online IELTS tutor for Malaysia.
The booking page shows each time in your own time zone and your price in your own currency before you pay; Malaysia is in the middle regional price tier, above the Vietnam price and below the highest tier. A paid 30-minute trial can be taken once, on your first booking, you can reschedule at no charge up to 12 hours before a slot, and there is no subscription or package. If you want fixed class hours or classmates, a class near you may fit better (see how to choose an online IELTS tutor), and no band is promised either way.
