Check Google Meet first if you are in Chongqing
Lessons run on Google Meet, and Google services are generally not reachable in mainland China without extra tools. The UK government's China travel advice, read in October 2026, says some services are permanently blocked there, including Google. It does not name Google Meet, so this page cannot say whether Meet opens on your network.
Before you book, check that the booking page and Google Meet both open from where you will have the lesson, and message Mike if you are not sure. No other platform is promised. How one-to-one lessons with Mike work from Chongqing
Mike holds the Cambridge CELTA (July 2017) and is based in Hanoi, where he teaches every session himself, live on Google Meet and in English. He has taught English and IELTS for more than 12 years in Vietnam, Turkey and Iran. There is no classroom, centre or group class in Chongqing, and the lessons are not in Mandarin. A session can cover Listening, Reading, Writing (Task 1 and Task 2, marked against the public band descriptors) or Speaking (Parts 1, 2 and 3 in the real test format), with feedback during the session rather than days later. Written progress notes appear in your account after each session, and a session can be recorded on request. See IELTS Speaking coaching and IELTS Writing feedback. No band is promised: progress depends on your starting point and the work you do between sessions.

Searching for IELTS classes in Chongqing?
That search may bring up group classes. This is different: one-to-one coaching online, with no centre or classroom in Chongqing. A class can suit a fixed timetable and classmates; one-to-one lessons follow your own answers and essays but depend on open slots in Mike's calendar. Where you will actually sit the test in Chongqing
Band Booster IELTS is a private tutor, not a test centre. It does not register you or set exam fees and dates, so this page quotes no exam fee or test date, and it has no connection with NEEA (named in the registration site's footer), the British Council, IDP or any centre named below. The registration site lists three Chongqing centres
The IELTS registration site, ielts.neea.cn, is headed "IELTS from the British Council" in its English version, and its footer reads "NEEA IELTS Online Registration Web site". British Council China's test-day page, read in Chinese, refers to the registration site of the 教育部教育考试院. These are the pages' own labels; this page does not say who operates the site. Its list of computer-delivered centres names three in Chongqing. Names and addresses below are as the English version of the page prints them, with spacing and punctuation tidied and the room label "RM" written as "Room"; the Sichuan International Studies University entry misspells the city as "Chonagqing", which is corrected here. The transit notes are close paraphrases of the notes printed beside each entry, shortened for Chongqing University's long bus list.

One of the three, British Council Chongqing IOC Test Centre, is in Yuzhong District; the other two, named for universities, are in Shapingba District. This page does not rank the three or say which is closer to you, and it cannot tell you which one you will be given: your own venue, address and room appear on your personal page and admission card (see "Before you travel").
The Chinese version of the list gives the same three centres under these names: British Council 重庆雅思机考考点, 重庆大学虎溪校区雅思机考考点 and 四川外国语大学雅思机考考点. Its transit notes match the English ones. It adds one detail to the Address line: its Sichuan International Studies University address names a building, 宏文楼 (Hongwen Lou). The English Address line leaves the building out.
The IELTS UKVI on computer list shows two of the three
The registration site keeps a separate list for IELTS UKVI on computer. For Chongqing it carries two matching entries, with _UKVI added to the name: British Council Chongqing IOC Test Centre_UKVI and Chongqing University (Huxi Campus) IOC Test Centre_UKVI. So the standard list shows three Chongqing centres and the UKVI list two, with no UKVI entry for Sichuan International Studies University. This page does not explain the difference or say which tests or dates run at which centre; check with the provider you register through. Chongqing is one of only four cities on the Life Skills list
The registration site also keeps a list for IELTS for UKVI Life Skills. Chongqing is one of only four cities on it, and its centre there is named British Council Chongqing LS Test Centre. Which test you need is for the organisation asking for your result to say.
British Council China's One Skill Retake page lists two Chongqing venues
British Council China's One Skill Retake page, read in Chinese, lists two computer-test venues in Chongqing, both with names ending 雅思机考考点 (IELTS computer-test venue):
- British Council 重庆雅思机考考点, at 重庆市渝中区邹容路68号大都会东方广场商厦28楼05-07室, in Yuzhong District on Zourong Road. This is the same address as the registration-site entry for British Council Chongqing IOC Test Centre.
- British Council 重庆两江新区雅思机考考点, at 重庆市两江新区食品城大道18号重庆广告产业园3栋5楼506, in Liangjiang New Area. Roughly: 18 Shipincheng Dadao, Chongqing Advertising Industrial Park, building 3, 5th floor, room 506.
The Liangjiang venue does not appear under that name on the registration-site list, and none of the three registration-site addresses above is in Liangjiang New Area, so the two pages do not match. This page does not say which is right or why they differ, and it cannot say whether full computer tests, as well as One Skill Retake, are held at the Liangjiang venue. One Skill Retake or a full retake explains the option itself.
What the ielts.org finder shows for Chongqing
When read in October 2026, the ielts.org test-centre finder, filtered to China, showed two Chongqing results:
- IDP IELTS China Chongqing Liangjiang New Area, tagged Computer and One Skill Retake. The finder prints its address as Room 1, 37th floor, Future International Mansion, 6 1st Branch Road, Jianxin North Road, Guanyinqiao, Liangjiang New Area, Chongqing.
- Sichuan International Studies University, tagged Computer only.
The finder's IDP centre and British Council's Liangjiang venue are different centres from different providers, at different addresses. Neither British Council Chongqing IOC Test Centre nor Chongqing University (Huxi Campus) IOC Test Centre was among the two finder results. This page says nothing about IDP China's registration, ID rules, test types or results: check IDP China directly.
Before you travel
Three notes from the registration site and British Council China's test-day page, read in October 2026:
- Read your centre's admission instructions. Each of the three Chongqing entries on the registration site carries the note "Please note: Admission Instructions", telling you to read that centre's admission (campus entry) instructions before the test; the page it links to lists each centre with a link to its own detailed requirements. The Chinese version says the same in other words: 请务必在考试前持续关注：雅思考点入校/入场要求 (keep following the centre's entry requirements).
- Your written and Speaking rooms may not be at the listed address. The registration site's notice page (in Chinese) says the written-test and Speaking venues and addresses may differ from the centre's listed venue and address. The Chongqing entries show this: on the English list, the written-test and Speaking venue lines for Chongqing University name the South Wing of the first teaching building on the Huxi Campus, and those for Sichuan International Studies University name the 8th Floor Hongwen Building, so both differ from the Address lines. The British Council entry's venue lines match its address.
- Your admission card is what counts. British Council China's test-day page says to log in to your personal page on the registration site to see your candidate number, Speaking time, written and Speaking venue, address and room number, and to print your admission card from it. It also suggests checking the map and your travel in advance.
