Check Google Meet first if you are in Hangzhou
Lessons run on Google Meet, and Google services are generally not reachable in mainland China without extra tools. The UK government's China travel advice, read in October 2026, says some services are permanently blocked there, including Google. It does not name Google Meet, so this page cannot say whether Meet opens on your network in Hangzhou.
Before you book, check that the booking page and Google Meet both open from where you will have the lesson, and message Mike if you are not sure. No other platform is promised. You can reach Mike at mkcenter007@gmail.com or +84 383 390 963 (Zalo, WhatsApp, Telegram); use whichever you can open from where you are.
How one-to-one lessons with Mike work from Hangzhou
Mike holds the Cambridge CELTA (July 2017), has taught English and IELTS for 12+ years in Vietnam, Turkey and Iran, and is based in Hanoi. His own IELTS Speaking score is 8.5. He teaches every session himself, one-to-one, live on Google Meet and in English. There is no classroom, centre or group class in Hangzhou. About Mike has more.
A 60-minute session can cover Listening, Reading, Writing (Task 1 and Task 2, marked against the public band descriptors) or Speaking (Parts 1, 2 and 3 in the real test format). Feedback comes during the session rather than days later, written progress notes follow in your account, and a session can be recorded on request. IELTS Speaking coaching and IELTS Writing feedback describe how those sessions run; they were written for Vietnam, so ignore their prices. No band is promised: progress depends on your starting point and the work you do between sessions.
The booking calendar shows every slot in your own time zone, and your price appears in your own currency on the booking page before you pay, with the payment options listed there. A paid 30-minute trial can be booked once, on your first booking. There is no subscription or package, and you can reschedule at no charge up to 12 hours before the slot; a cancellation inside 12 hours is not refunded. Online IELTS tutor for China has the booking steps.
Searching for IELTS classes in Hangzhou?
That search may bring up group classes. This is different: one-to-one coaching online, with no centre or classroom in Hangzhou, and this page does not list classes or schools there. A class can suit a fixed timetable and classmates; one-to-one lessons follow your own answers and essays but depend on which slots are open in Mike's calendar. Private tutor versus group course compares the two, using Hanoi as its example.
Where you will actually sit the test in Hangzhou
Band Booster IELTS is a private tutor, not a test centre. It does not register you for the test, set exam fees or dates, or have any connection with the centres named below, and this page quotes no exam fee or test date. Everything in this section was read in October 2026 from the registration site, from ielts.org's finder and from the test-day page on chinaielts.org. Lists change, so confirm your centre when you register and again on your admission card.
The registration site lists four Hangzhou centres
The IELTS registration site for mainland China is ielts.neea.cn, whose home page presents the test as IELTS from the British Council. Its IELTS on computer list shows four centres under Hangzhou. The names, addresses and transit notes below come from the English version of that page, and each name is written as the site prints it. The order is not a ranking, and this page does not say which centre suits you. Three of the four are named after universities; the fourth is named after the Zhejiang Education Examinations Authority.
- Zhejiang Education Examinations Authority IOC Test Centre. Address: No.35, Xueyuan Road, Xihu District, Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. The transit note lists buses 37, K66, K303 and K527 to the stop named Xue Yuan Rd. Tian Mu Shan Rd.
- Zhejiang University IOC Test Centre. Address: Zhejiang University (Huajiachi Campus), No. 268 Kaixuan Road, Shangcheng District, Hangzhou City. The transit note gives routes from Hangzhou Railway Station: subway Line 5, exiting at North Jianguo Road station, then a change to bus 35 or bus 21. It also gives routes from East Hangzhou Railway Station, with bus changes.
- Hangzhou Dianzi University IOC Test Centre. Address: Xiasha Campus of Hangzhou Dianzi University at No.1158 Second Street, Qiantang District, Hangzhou City, with the instruction to enter the campus through the East Gate at Wenze Road. The transit note says to take subway Line 1 and get off at Wenze Road Station (Exit B). It also lists buses 3104, 3113 and 3126M to the stop named Xuelin Intersection, Wenze Road.
- Zhejiang University of Science and Technology IOC Test Centre. Address: No.359 Liuhe Road, Xihu District, Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. The transit note starts from Hangzhou East Railway Station: Metro Line 1 to Wulin Square Station, a change to Metro Line 3 at the same station, a ride to Pingfeng Station and an 800-metre walk to the test site. It also lists routes from Hangzhou West Railway Station, from two bus stations and by highway.
The four entries are in three districts (two in Xihu, one each in Shangcheng and Qiantang), and the transit notes differ in kind: the Authority entry lists bus numbers only, while the other three describe routes by subway or metro, some starting from named railway stations, with bus changes, walking distances, bus-station routes or a highway route added in places.
The Chinese version of the same page differs from the English one in places. For the Zhejiang Education Examinations Authority centre it lists a different set of bus numbers to the same stop, and for Hangzhou Dianzi University it adds walking distances to the campus East Gate: 400 metres on the subway route and 200 metres on the bus route. Treat each transit note as the site's own text rather than a route we have tested, and check it on a map before you travel.
The same four centres on the UKVI list
The registration site has a separate IELTS UKVI on computer list. It carries a matching entry, with _UKVI added to the name, for each of the four Hangzhou centres, for example Zhejiang University of Science and Technology IOC Test Centre_UKVI. This page does not say which test runs at which centre or on which day. IELTS for UKVI in mainland China sets out what the UK government's pages say, and the organisation asking for your result can tell you which test it needs.
What ielts.org's finder shows for Hangzhou
ielts.org has its own test-centre finder. For Hangzhou it shows one result: IDP IELTS China Hangzhou Gongshu, in Gongshu District, tagged Computer and One Skill Retake. None of the four registration-site centres above appears in the finder, and this page cannot say why the two lists differ.
For Hangzhou, the finder's one result carries IDP's name, while the registration site presents the test as IELTS from the British Council and lists its centres under university and authority names. Band Booster IELTS has no connection with IDP, the British Council or any of these centres. This page says nothing about how to register with IDP China, which tests it offers or what ID it asks for: if you plan to use IDP China, read its own pages, and check the address on the finder's entry with IDP China before you plan a journey. The tag refers to the retake option covered in One Skill Retake or a full retake.
Before you travel: the entry, the notice and your admission card
Four points matter more than the list itself when you plan the journey:
- Read your centre's admission instructions. Every centre entry carries the note “Please note: Admission Instructions”, and the Chinese version of the entry asks candidates to keep following the centre's entry requirements before the exam. The note links to an index that gives each centre its own entry-requirements notice, so read the one for your centre.
- Do not assume your rooms are at the listed address. A notice on the registration site, written in Chinese, says the written and Speaking rooms can be at a different address from the centre listed. The English list itself shows differences for some centres in other cities: a different building at Heilongjiang University in Harbin, and different rooms at Zhuhai and Kunming. In the four Hangzhou entries the written-test and Speaking-test venue lines match each other, but the notice says your venue can still differ from the listed centre, so plan from your admission card.
- Log in and print your admission card. The test-day process page on chinaielts.org says candidates see their candidate number, Speaking time, written and Speaking venue, address and room number on their personal page of the registration site, and print the admission card from it.
- Look at a map and choose how you will travel, in advance. The same page recommends this.
This page cannot tell you which centre suits you or which venue and room your registration will give you; your admission card shows them if you registered through the registration site. For the booking steps see how to register for IELTS in mainland China, for the day itself IELTS test day in mainland China, and for every city's list IELTS test centres in mainland China.
Check which test you need before you register
Academic and General Training differ in Reading and Writing, and the registration site keeps a separate UKVI list. Which one you need is set by the university, employer or immigration body asking for your result, not by this page, and this page cannot say which versions run at which Hangzhou centre. Check the requirement first, then ask the provider you register with. Academic versus General Training explains the difference.
Practising for a computer-delivered test
The registration site's list is headed IELTS on computer, so it is worth practising on a screen. This is general teaching advice, not something the registration site or any provider says, and it promises no band.
- Read and type on screen. Type Task 1 (at least 150 words) and Task 2 (at least 250 words) against the clock, and do some timed Reading on a screen. Computer-delivered IELTS in mainland China covers what changes.
- Speak out loud and get feedback on what you actually said. In Part 2 you have one minute to prepare and then speak for one to two minutes; the Speaking Part 2 timer helps with the timing. A lesson with Mike is practice, not the IELTS test, and it does not predict your score on the day.
