Test information was last checked in October 2026 on ielts.org and the two providers' Taiwan sites. Some British Council Taiwan pages linked below are in Chinese. Confirm everything with the providers before you book.
One-to-one online lessons for Taichung
Mike holds the Cambridge CELTA and teaches from Hanoi. He teaches every lesson himself, one-to-one, live on Google Meet. Lessons are in English throughout, so if you need them in Chinese this is not the right service. Band Booster IELTS has no classroom, centre or group class in Taichung or anywhere else.
In his own IELTS, Mike scored 7.5 overall and 8.5 in Speaking (About Mike has more and quotes Vietnam prices). Results students have reported back, anonymously, are 6.0 to 7.5 overall, 5.5 to 7.0 in Writing and 6.5 to 8.0 in Speaking. No band is promised: progress depends on your starting point and the work you do between lessons.
A lesson can cover Listening, Reading, Writing (Task 1 and Task 2, marked against the public band descriptors) or Speaking (Parts 1, 2 and 3 in the real test format), with feedback during the session rather than days later. IELTS Speaking coaching, IELTS Speaking tutor for Taiwan and IELTS Writing feedback show how those sessions run. The coaching and feedback pages quote Vietnam prices, which do not apply to you.
Taiwan is in the higher regional price tier, so the price is above Vietnam's. The booking page shows your price in your own currency, with the payment options, before you pay. A paid 30-minute trial can be taken once, on your first booking, and you can reschedule at no charge up to 12 hours before the slot. The online IELTS tutor for Taiwan page covers the language of lessons and the price tier for the whole country.
Taichung is one hour ahead of Hanoi, all year
The IANA time zone database (release 2026e) puts all of Taiwan, Taichung included, on UTC+8 and Vietnam on UTC+7, and neither currently has a daylight-saving rule, so the gap is one hour in every month. The booking calendar shows each slot in your own time zone, so you need not convert. Open slots follow Mike's calendar and no hours are promised, so check it first if you can study only at fixed hours.
IELTS classes in Taichung: this is one-to-one online, not a class
Band Booster does not run classes in Taichung, and this page does not list other schools or classes. A class can suit you better if you want a fixed timetable, classmates or lessons in person. One-to-one lessons are built around a single student but depend on which slots are open in Mike's calendar. No band is guaranteed in either format. Private tutor versus group course compares the two; it was written for Hanoi, so its prices are for Vietnam.
IELTS test centres in Taichung: IDP's office and a British Council computer venue
Band Booster IELTS is a private tutor, not a test centre. It does not register candidates or set fees or dates, so you book the test with a provider. ielts.org, IDP Taiwan and British Council Taiwan all list Taichung as a test city.
| Source | What it says about Taichung |
|---|---|
| ielts.org test-centre finder | Lists four Taiwan cities: Kaohsiung, Taichung, Tainan and Taipei. For Taichung it lists two venues, IDP's Taichung office and a British Council computer venue (a venue can appear more than once on the list). Both are tagged Computer and One Skill Retake. |
| IDP Taiwan test dates | Offers computer IELTS in the same four cities. Its Taichung computer venue is IDP's own Taichung office, marked as supporting One Skill Retake. |
| British Council Taiwan venues | Lists computer venues in Taipei, Taichung and Kaohsiung, and mentions Taichung railway station among its transport points. |
IDP's office is in Taichung's West District, and ielts.org places its British Council venue in the South District. IDP's venue guide gives public-transport directions to its office, including the Taichung MRT Green Line to City Hall station and then a bus.
The lists are not identical. IDP's test-dates page lists more Taichung venues than the ielts.org finder, and some of its wording looks older than IDP's own computer-only announcement. This page therefore names no venue except IDP's own office and gives no street addresses; your booking confirmation is the authority on venue, date and time.
Computer-delivered IELTS in Taichung
IDP Taiwan's announcement says that after 31 January 2026 IELTS in Taiwan is offered entirely on computer and paper tests are no longer available, and British Council Taiwan says it and IDP no longer offer paper tests there either. Some provider pages still carry older wording, so confirm the format when you book.
When IELTS is taken on computer at a test centre, ielts.org says Listening, Reading and Writing are answered on the computer. For Speaking the sources differ: IDP Taiwan and ielts.org's ways-to-take-IELTS page describe a face-to-face session with an examiner, British Council Taiwan's Academic and General Training pages say some of its test centres deliver Speaking by video call at the test centre without saying which, and ielts.org's Guide for Test Takers says face to face or via video call. Confirm how Speaking is held with your provider when you book. Format, ID, the Speaking slot, results timing and practice material are covered once for all of Taiwan in computer-delivered IELTS in Taiwan.
IELTS for UKVI
ielts.org says UK Visas and Immigration accepts only tests taken in person at an IELTS for UKVI test centre. The finder marks UKVI approval entry by entry, so ask the provider whether your Taichung venue offers IELTS for UKVI before you book.
One Skill Retake with a Taichung venue
One Skill Retake lets you retake one of Listening, Reading, Writing or Speaking instead of the whole test. ielts.org says it is once per original test, within 60 days, and that the full test must have been IELTS on computer at a centre that offers the retake, so check before you book the full test. Both Taichung venues on the finder carry the tag. IDP Taiwan's test-dates page marks its Taichung computer venue as supporting it, and its One Skill Retake page sets out the conditions. British Council Taiwan says it offers the retake at its Taichung venue.
British Council Taiwan says a retake can only be booked with an official test centre of your original computer test, and to check that the organisation receiving your score accepts a retake result. Its page also sets out which venues can be booked across, so read it before you book. To choose between a single-skill and a full retake, read One Skill Retake or a full retake.
How lessons fit your preparation
The providers publish computer practice material, and computer-delivered IELTS in Taiwan lists it. The points below are general teaching advice, not guidance from the providers, and they promise no band:
- Writing. Type a Task 1 (at least 150 words, about 20 minutes) and a Task 2 (at least 250 words, about 40 minutes) in one 60-minute sitting. Task 2 counts twice as much as Task 1. Bring the answers to a lesson, where Mike marks them against the public band descriptors.
- Speaking. It is a conversation with a person, so practise aloud with one. A lesson runs Parts 1, 2 and 3 in the real format, and the Speaking Part 2 timer helps between lessons.
- Listening and Reading. ielts.org gives Listening as approximately 30 minutes and Reading as 60 minutes including transfer time. Practise answering on a screen, then bring the questions you missed to a lesson.
Which IELTS version and score? Ask the organisation
This page names no Taichung organisations and states no required band. The university, employer or authority that receives your score sets the requirement, so ask it which test and band it wants. ielts.org has a directory of organisations that accept IELTS, and Academic versus General Training explains the two versions.
Fees, dates and results: check the providers
The exam fee is charged by the provider you book with, not by Band Booster, so this page quotes no fee amount or test date. IDP Taiwan and British Council Taiwan publish fees and dates, and these can change. Results timing differs by source, from 1 to 2 days up to 1 to 8 days, and none of it is a promise, so leave a margin before any deadline; the table in computer-delivered IELTS in Taiwan compares the sources.
