What IDP and the ielts.org finder showed for Al Ain
Two sources describe IELTS in Al Ain, and they do not line up neatly, so this page reads them side by side. Everything below was read on 24 October 2026. Venue lists and session lists change, so open the linked page before you plan a trip. This page gives no exam fee amounts or test dates, because the providers set and change them.
| Source | What it showed on 24 October 2026 |
|---|---|
| IDP UAE, Al Ain test dates page | Says IDP UAE provides testing centres in Al Ain. When read, it showed no sessions for its default filters (a message that no content was found, with a suggestion to try a broader search) and listed IDP IELTS Abu Dhabi under Related test centres. |
| ielts.org test centre finder, United Arab Emirates | Cards for several Al Ain venues under the British Council and IDP, set out in the next section. One card whose name says Al Ain has an address in Abu Dhabi city, not in Al Ain. |
The two do not obviously agree: IDP's page lists an Abu Dhabi centre under Related test centres, yet the finder carries an IDP venue called “IDP IELTS - Al Ain”. We cannot tell from these pages why. An empty session list is a snapshot, not a statement that IDP never holds tests in Al Ain, so confirm a live Al Ain session on the provider's booking page before you travel or book.
The Al Ain venues the finder lists
The table copies each venue's name as the finder shows it, after the provider prefix, except the last row, which describes an IDP card without repeating the institute name it carries. It is not a complete or final list: the finder can show one venue on more than one card, as it does for Al Ain University below, and lists change. A listing is also not a session. Only the provider's booking page shows which dates are open, and this page does not say that a candidate in Al Ain can sit at a given venue on a given date.
| Venue, as the finder names it | Listed under | What the cards showed |
|---|---|---|
| United Arab Emirates University - UAE University | British Council | Labels Computer and One Skill Retake |
| Al Ain University Al Ain Campus | British Council | Address 124th Street, Al Jimi. More than one card: one labelled UKVI Approved, Computer and One Skill Retake, another labelled Computer (Writing on Paper) only |
| IDP IELTS - Al Ain | IDP | Labels UKVI Approved, Computer and One Skill Retake |
| Higher College of Technology, CERT - CERT HCT - Al Ain - Zakhir Campus | British Council | An HCT venue in Al Ain, Zakhir Campus. Labels Computer and One Skill Retake |
| Abu Dhabi University, Knowledge Group - Abu Dhabi University - Al Ain Campus | British Council | An Abu Dhabi University campus venue in Al Ain. Labels Computer and One Skill Retake |
| An IDP card with Abu Dhabi in its name (the name is not copied here) | IDP | Carries an Al Ain address. Labels Computer and One Skill Retake. The reverse of the Mohammed Bin Zayed example in the next section |
The same finder lists many more venues across the UAE. For the other emirates, see IELTS test venues across the UAE, emirate by emirate, which sets out what IDP, the British Council and the finder list for each.
Reading the address, not the name
A venue's name can point to the wrong city, and it can do so in both directions. The finder card named “British Council Test Venue - Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Ain University” has an address in Mohammad Bin Zayed City, Abu Dhabi, not in Al Ain, so a name that says Al Ain does not tell you the venue is in Al Ain. The reverse also occurs: the IDP card with Abu Dhabi in its name, the last row of the table above, carries an Al Ain address. Do not assume that two venues whose names share a few words are the same place.
Al Ain is itself in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, and the address on the “IDP IELTS - Al Ain” card ends by naming Abu Dhabi after Al Ain. So the words Abu Dhabi at the end of an address do not settle the city: read the street and district before them.
General advice, not guidance from IDP, the British Council or ielts.org:
- Start from the provider you will book with, then choose a session. Note the venue and address the session names.
- Read the address line of the matching finder card and check the city, not only the name.
- If the venue or address on your session does not match the finder, ask the provider before you travel.
- Check the label that matters to you on the session itself (UKVI Approved, Computer (Writing on Paper), One Skill Retake), because cards for one venue can carry different labels.
If you need to move or cancel a booking, see moving or cancelling your IELTS test in the UAE.
The labels on Al Ain cards
- UKVI Approved. The finder put this label on one Al Ain University Al Ain Campus card and on the IDP IELTS - Al Ain card. Whether you need an IELTS for UKVI test is for the organisation or visa route asking for your result to say; this page gives no visa advice. IELTS for UKVI in the UAE compares how the sources list UKVI venues.
- Computer (Writing on Paper). The finder put this label on one Al Ain University Al Ain Campus card. The label's words describe a computer test with the Writing component on paper; which formats a given date uses is a question for the provider, and computer-delivered IELTS in Dubai and the UAE sets out what the providers say.
- One Skill Retake. The finder put this label on the UAE University card and on every other Al Ain card we read except the Al Ain University card labelled Computer (Writing on Paper). Ask the provider whether your session offers it, and read One Skill Retake or a full retake for when it makes sense.
UAE University's own English requirements, in brief
UAE University (UAEU) is listed on the finder as a British Council venue in Al Ain. That listing says where a test can be booked, not what the university accepts, so UAEU's admission rules need their own check. These are the statements on UAEU's own pages, read on 24 October 2026:
| UAEU page | What it states about English tests |
|---|---|
| Undergraduate admissions (a page whose requirement sections are headed for UAE nationals and children of Emirati mothers) | Lists IELTS Indicator and Duolingo among the tests not accepted to fulfil the English language proficiency requirement. States its own IELTS (Academic) figures for this group. |
| International students and children of UAEU employees | Lists IELTS (Academic) 5.5 points in its college tables (nine tables when read, all 5.5). Repeats the not-accepted list, with IELTS Indicator and Duolingo among the tests named. |
| Graduate admission (Master's) | At least 6.0 on IELTS Academic for Master's programmes delivered predominantly in English, with conditional admission at 5.5. The same page gives other figures for other kinds of programme. |
So the figure depends on the level and the applicant group. The international-student page lists 5.5 points, the Master's page asks for at least 6.0 for English-medium programmes with a conditional route at 5.5, and the undergraduate page for UAE nationals states figures of its own, so do not read one group's number into another's. The not-accepted list appears on the undergraduate and international-student pages; check the page for your own programme for the rules that apply to you. Requirements change and can differ by programme, so check UAEU's page for your programme and its admissions office. A score does not guarantee admission, and nothing here is a visa rule.
The figures above name IELTS Academic, so see Academic or General Training before you book. For how UAEU's pages compare with Khalifa, Zayed, Sharjah and HCT, see IELTS scores at UAE public universities.
Where online lessons with Mike fit
Band Booster IELTS is a private online tutoring service. It is not a test centre, it has no centre in Al Ain, it is independent of IDP, the British Council and Cambridge University Press & Assessment, and it does not register you, hold a place, set test fees or dates, or issue results.
Every lesson is one-to-one on Google Meet in English with Mike, who holds the Cambridge CELTA, teaches from Hanoi and scored 8.5 in Speaking in his own IELTS (about Mike). A lesson covers Listening, Reading, Writing Task 1 and Task 2, marked against the public band descriptors, and Speaking Parts 1, 2 and 3 in the real test format, with feedback during the lesson. Because lessons are online, the venue you choose for the test does not change where you study. The booking calendar shows each slot in your own time zone.
The UAE is in a higher regional price tier than Vietnam, and the booking page shows your price in your own currency before you pay. A paid 30-minute trial can be taken once, on your first booking, and you can reschedule at no charge up to 12 hours before a session. No band is guaranteed: progress depends on your starting point and the work you do between sessions.
