Where can you take IELTS in Thai Nguyen?
Two providers list a test venue in Thai Nguyen: IDP Vietnam and British Council Vietnam. Each has its own booking system, so you choose a provider first and then a session at its venue. We read every page cited here on 21 October 2026; lists change, so check the provider's page before you book.
Band Booster IELTS is a private tutoring service, not a test provider or venue. We do not register candidates or hold places, and this page gives no fees or test dates. For how fees and dates work, see IELTS test dates and fees in Hanoi.
| Provider | Venue name, as the provider's pages give it | Address, as given | Format shown |
|---|---|---|---|
| IDP Vietnam | An international school, listed under slightly different names on IDP's venue list, on its session cards and on ielts.org | 586 Cách Mạng Tháng Tám, Tổ 8, P. Gia Sàng, Tỉnh Thái Nguyên | Computer (“IELTS trên máy tính”, “Writing on computer”) |
| British Council Vietnam | “Thái Nguyên University” (British Council venue list); “British Council, Thai Nguyen University (TNU)” (ielts.org) | Nhà T1 - Đại học Thái Nguyên (British Council); Building T1, Thai Nguyen University, Phan Dinh Phung Ward (ielts.org) | Computer (ielts.org) |
IDP in Thai Nguyen: an international school venue
On IDP Vietnam's venue list, the Thai Nguyen entry is an international school at 586 Cách Mạng Tháng Tám, Tổ 8, Gia Sàng ward; no other entry on that list had a Thai Nguyen address. An IDP article dated 5 June 2025 describes the school as IDP's only partner licensed by the Ministry of Education and Training to run IELTS in Thai Nguyen province.
IDP's Thai Nguyen centre page gives the centre's normal opening hours as Monday to Sunday, 8:00am to 5:00pm (opening hours, not test times), the number 19006955 and the email ielts.hanoi@idp.com. The 2025 article gives a different email, ielts.hcmc@idp.com, with the same hotline, so the phone number is the safer contact.
What IDP's Thai Nguyen session list showed
IDP's Thai Nguyen session page said it was showing 92 sessions, but only the first 50 session cards loaded before a “Load more” button, so we describe those 50 only. Every one of the 50 named IDP's Thai Nguyen venue and showed “IELTS trên máy tính”, “Writing on computer”, “One Skill Retake available” and “Results in 1 to 5 days”. Of the 50, 25 were IELTS Academic and 25 General Training; all fell on a Saturday or Sunday and started at 08:00 AM or 01:00 PM. The page's test filter also lists UKVI and Life Skills tests, but none of the loaded cards was one, so ask IDP if you need IELTS for UKVI here.
British Council in Thai Nguyen: Thái Nguyên University
British Council Vietnam's venue list has a heading “Tỉnh Thái Nguyên” with one venue, “Thái Nguyên University”, described as the Trung tâm Khảo thí và Quản lý chất lượng giáo dục (testing and education quality centre) of Thai Nguyen University, Nhà T1; it gives no street number. ielts.org's centre page calls it “British Council, Thai Nguyen University (TNU)”, at Building T1, Thai Nguyen University, Phan Dinh Phung Ward, and lists the Academic and General Training tests on computer.
British Council's two language versions of its dates page differ. The English dates and locations page has date tables for other provinces but no section for Thai Nguyen, and its tables stop at April 2026. The Vietnamese-language page, read on 22 October 2026, has a section headed “Lịch thi IELTS 2026 tại Thái Nguyên” covering July to December 2026, with a link to British Council's booking portal for each venue's schedule. We print no dates here: check that section and the portal for the days British Council tests at Thái Nguyên University. Both versions say tests in Vietnam run in the morning (9:00 to 12:00) or the afternoon (14:00 to 17:00).
ielts.org's test centre finder returned centres from all over Vietnam. Among its records, IDP's Thai Nguyen record appears once and Thái Nguyên University three times: ielts.org splits one centre into several records, so this is not three venues.
One Skill Retake: the labels differ, so ask
On IDP's venue list, some entries carry the label “Hỗ trợ thi lại một kỹ năng” (supports retaking one skill); the Thai Nguyen entry does not. Yet all 50 Thai Nguyen session cards we loaded said “One Skill Retake available”. On ielts.org, IDP's Thai Nguyen record has the One Skill Retake tag, while two of the three Thái Nguyên University records have it and one does not, because ielts.org tags each record rather than the centre.
- IDP's rule. IDP's One Skill Retake page says your full test must have been on computer at a centre that offers the retake, and a retake elsewhere must be with the same organiser: an IDP test needs an IDP centre.
- British Council's rule. Its retake page says the retake is available with the British Council in Vietnam for IELTS on Computer and IELTS for UKVI on Computer, and you must have received your results from a centre that offers it.
- ielts.org's advice. ielts.org says to make sure your centre offers the retake before booking your full test.
Because the labels do not match, ask the provider about the exact session. More in IELTS One Skill Retake.
Computer test days, paper and Speaking
Computer, not paper. IDP and British Council announced that after 29 March 2025 all IELTS tests in Vietnam would be on computer, with paper kept only for candidates who need special arrangements and very limited cases at partner educational institutions. ielts.org says that from mid-2026 IELTS will no longer be offered as a paper-based test, with timelines varying by market, and IDP's Writing on Paper page says IDP Vietnam has stopped paper tests.
Writing on Paper. IDP says its Writing on Paper option is held at three places: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang. British Council's ways to take IELTS page lists the option but not where it runs, and none of ielts.org's Thai Nguyen records shows “Computer (Writing on Paper)”. If you want to handwrite, look at venues in Hanoi.
Test days. IDP's 2026 schedule table lists particular dates for Thai Nguyen in each month from April to December, not the “7 ngày/ tuần” it shows for Hanoi; its note says computer test days include Academic and General Training. Some dates in the October to December columns had no card in the session list we loaded, and we do not know why, so trust the live list and ask IDP.
Speaking. The providers word it differently:
- IDP's Thai Nguyen page says the Speaking test is by video call with an IELTS examiner at the IDP venue.
- IDP's Thai Nguyen centre page says you take Listening, Reading and Writing on the same day and can arrange your Speaking test to suit your plans; IDP's schedule page says you can choose your Speaking date. We did not go through a booking, so check the Speaking options offered for your session.
- British Council says you can choose your Speaking slot and format, face to face or by video call, and that video-call Speaking takes place at a test centre. It does not say which format Thái Nguyên University uses.
Format and results timing are covered in computer-delivered IELTS in Hanoi.
Choosing a venue in Thai Nguyen: what to check
- Provider and name. The same venue has different names on different pages, so match the address on your booking with the table above.
- Test type and format. Both venues are listed for Academic and General Training on computer; ask the provider before booking UKVI or Writing on Paper.
- Retake and Speaking. Ask whether your session offers One Skill Retake and how and when Speaking is held.
- No suitable date? IDP's Thai Nguyen page suggests trying another city; both providers list venues in Hanoi.
- Confirmation. Check the venue, date and time in the provider's confirmation email before you travel.
Where online coaching with Mike fits
Band Booster IELTS has no centre in Thai Nguyen. Lessons are online only, one-to-one on Google Meet, taught from Hanoi by Mike, who holds the Cambridge CELTA and teaches every session himself, live and in English. His own IELTS result is 7.5 overall with 8.5 in Speaking. Because lessons are video calls, you can practise Speaking Parts 1 to 3 in a setting close to a video-call Speaking test.
In Vietnam a 60-minute lesson is 500,000 ₫, and a paid 30-minute trial is 150,000 ₫, once per student. The booking calendar shows times in your own time zone, and payment options are shown there. No band is promised. If you would rather learn in a class, see private tutor or centre; to read more, see online IELTS tutor and about Mike.
