Two providers, and you choose the venue when you book
In Vietnam you register for IELTS with IDP Vietnam or British Council Vietnam. Each runs its own booking system and its own list of venues, and a venue is attached to a specific test session. So “where can I take IELTS in Hanoi?” has two steps: choose a provider, then choose a session in that provider's system.
Band Booster IELTS sits outside this process. We are a private tutoring service: we do not register candidates for the test or hold places for them. This page gives no fees or test dates, because the providers set them and they change. See IELTS test dates and fees in Hanoi for where to find them.
IDP Vietnam's Hanoi venues, as listed in October 2026
IDP Vietnam's test dates page lets you choose a city, and Hanoi is one of the options. When we read it on 10 October 2026, the venue list gave a Hanoi address for six entries, and IDP's Hanoi session list and test location article show one more. We name only the two IDP offices.
| Type of venue | Address, as IDP gives it | Label “Hỗ trợ thi lại một kỹ năng” |
|---|---|---|
| IDP office: IDP Phan Boi Chau | 28 Phan Boi Chau, Cua Nam ward | Shown |
| IDP office: IDP Ngoc Khanh | 15-17 Ngoc Khanh, Giang Vo ward | Shown |
| University | Bach Mai ward | Not shown |
| IDP partner venue | Kim Lien ward | Not shown |
| IDP partner venue | Hoang Mai ward | Not shown |
| IDP partner venue | Bach Mai ward | Not shown |
| IDP partner venue | Dich Vong ward (former Cau Giay district) | Not on the venue list; shown on IDP's Hanoi session page |
On IDP's Vietnamese-language venue list the label reads “Hỗ trợ thi lại một kỹ năng”, meaning “supports retaking one skill”. The list may change, so do not use this table to count venues. The last row shows that IDP's pages do not always match each other.
Cau Giay: a registration office and a venue in Dich Vong
If you live in Cau Giay, tell two things apart. On its test day page IDP lists its direct registration offices, three in Hanoi: two match the IDP offices in the table, and the third is the HITC Building at 239 Xuan Thuy, Cau Giay ward (the former Cau Giay district). That address is not in the venue list, so treat it as a registration office and ask IDP whether tests are held there. The partner venue in Dich Vong ward, in the last row of the table, is a place where IDP lists test sessions. Each IDP session shows the venue name, date, time and format; the address is in IDP's test location article.
The one-skill retake label: ask IDP before you book
On IDP's venue list the label appears under the two IDP offices only, among the six Hanoi entries. But in the Hanoi session list, the first 50 sessions we looked at on 10 October 2026 carried “One Skill Retake available” at every venue shown in them, including venues with no label on the venue list.
This matters because IDP's One Skill Retake page sets a condition: you must have taken the full test on computer at a test centre that offers One Skill Retake. The two lists do not match, so we do not conclude that a retake is possible only at the two IDP offices, and we do not say that every venue offers it. If a retake might matter to you, ask IDP about the exact session before you book the full test. See also IELTS One Skill Retake or full retake.
Computer test days and Speaking dates at IDP
IDP's schedule table for computer-delivered IELTS currently shows Hanoi as “7 days a week” in every month column from April to December 2026, and shows the same for Ho Chi Minh City and Hai Phong. That describes the schedule IDP runs, not the places left on a given day. The table covers 2026 only, so check IDP's page for later months.
- Academic and General Training. IDP notes that its computer test days include both. If you are not sure which one you need, see IELTS Academic vs General Training.
- Choosing a Speaking day. IDP says its flexible schedule in cities and provinces lets you choose the date of your Speaking test. That is a general statement, not one about Hanoi alone, so check it on the session you choose.
In the sessions we looked at, only a few said “Writing on paper”, so read that line on each session. The section-by-section format, ID rules and result timing are covered in Computer-delivered IELTS in Hanoi: what changes.
British Council in Hanoi: what we could and could not check
British Council Vietnam's IELTS page says it offers tests in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and other locations across the country, but it does not name a Hanoi venue. The schedule of each venue is on its booking portal, where you choose a format before the sessions are listed. When we searched for Hanoi (IELTS Academic) on 10 October 2026, each test listed a venue name and address, and one venue had a Cau Giay address. We do not list British Council's venues here, because the list can change; read the names and addresses on the portal.
- Formats. British Council Vietnam's page on ways to take IELTS lists IELTS on computer and IELTS on computer with Writing on Paper. On 10 October 2026, among the sessions that loaded on the portal, only one Hanoi venue showed Writing on paper. That is a one-day snapshot, so check the results yourself.
- Speaking and times. British Council's dates and locations page says you can choose your Speaking slot and its format, face to face or by video call, while IDP's Hanoi page says Speaking is taken face to face at the test venue. Check which applies to the session you book. The British Council page describes morning and afternoon sessions, but the portal also showed a venue with an evening session, 18:00 to 21:00, so rely on the times shown in the portal.
- Booking through partners. British Council also takes registrations through a partner network, which includes a group for Hanoi. We name none of them; ask a partner directly for its dates.
We have not verified who operates each venue, so this page does not rank them.
Choosing a venue: what to check
Choose by things you can check yourself:
- The venue and its address. An IDP session shows the venue name but not a street address, which is on IDP's venue list and test location article, while British Council's portal shows both name and address. IDP's list mixes IDP offices, a university and partner venues, and a registration office such as Xuan Thuy may not be a test venue.
- Date, time and format. Start from a date and time you can really sit, and the format you need: fully on computer or with Writing on Paper. For Speaking, read the format shown on the session. If one venue is full, look at another, then at the other provider.
- Travel and your confirmation email. Check the journey from home to the venue's address. British Council says its confirmation email gives your IELTS test time and the procedures on test day, so read the confirmation from whichever provider you book with.
Where online coaching with Mike fits
Band Booster IELTS is not a test provider or a test venue. Every lesson is one-to-one on Google Meet with Mike, who holds the Cambridge CELTA (July 2017) and is based in Hanoi. A 60-minute session costs 500,000 ₫, and the 30-minute trial costs 150,000 ₫, once per student on the first booking. Payment options are shown on the booking page.
Online lessons do not suit everyone: if you need fixed class hours or want to learn alongside other students, a class near home may be a better fit. Our page comparing a private IELTS tutor with a centre course sets out the trade-offs plainly. You can also read about Mike, how online IELTS tutoring works and the IELTS band score calculator. A Vietnamese version of this page is available.
