Is there an IELTS test centre in Vinh?
Yes. On 21 October 2026 both IDP Vietnam and British Council Vietnam listed IELTS venues in Vinh, Nghệ An. You book with one of them, and each booking system shows the venue for every session. Band Booster IELTS is a private online tutoring service, not a test provider or venue: we do not register anyone, and this page gives no fees or test dates, which the providers set and change.
We give each venue's address as the provider prints it and leave the venue names to the official pages linked below, as this site does not name other schools or centres.
IDP in Vinh: one venue on its list
IDP Vietnam's venue list showed 38 venue entries across Vietnam when we read it on 21 October 2026. One of those 38 had an address in Nghệ An: 74 Hermann, P. Trường Vinh, Tỉnh Nghệ An, with the label “Hỗ trợ thi lại một kỹ năng” (supports retaking one skill) under it.
- Venue page. IDP's page for this venue gives normal opening hours of Monday to Sunday, 8:00am to 5:00pm, and the phone number 19006955. These are not test times.
- Session list. IDP's Nghệ An session list said it was showing 244 sessions. We read the first 50 cards before the “Load more” button; all 50 were at this one venue.
- Registering in person. IDP's 2026 test schedule page lists its direct registration offices in Hanoi, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho and Nha Trang, and none in Vinh. You can book online or call IDP's hotline, 19006955.
British Council in Vinh: three venues on its list
British Council Vietnam's list of its venues approved by the Ministry of Education and Training has a heading for Nghệ An province with three entries, as read on 21 October 2026:

The British Council dates and locations page (Vietnamese) has a 2026 table of test dates for Nghệ An and sends you to its booking portal for each venue's schedule, where the latest dates with seats are shown. The English version of that page still showed an older table running only to April 2026, so use the Vietnamese page or the portal.
What ielts.org shows for Vinh
The ielts.org test-centre finder lists Vinh venues under two city names. We read both result pages for Vietnam on 22 October 2026.
- City “Vinh”: 1 result, a record under IDP's name at 74 Hermann Street, Truong Vinh Ward, tagged “Computer” and “One Skill Retake”.
- City “Nghe An”: 6 results: the three British Council addresses in the table above, two records each, so six records are not six venues. Both Trường Vinh records are tagged “Computer” and “One Skill Retake”; at the Vinh Phú and Thành Vinh addresses one record carries both tags and the other shows “Computer” only.
The individual centre pages differ from these result cards. We opened the IDP record and all six British Council records, including one under British Council's name at A2-01-02 Minh Khang Urban Area, Vinh Phu Ward. Each lists its tests as “Computer” and shows no One Skill Retake or UKVI tag in its text, so the tags appear only on the finder's result cards.
One Skill Retake at Vinh venues
The three sources word this differently, so here is each one:
- IDP. The Vinh entry on IDP's venue list carries the retake label, and all 50 session cards we read said “One Skill Retake available”. IDP's One Skill Retake page says you must have taken the full test on computer at a centre that offers the retake. You can retake at a different centre, but it must be run by the same organiser: an IDP test needs an IDP centre.
- British Council. Its One Skill Retake page says the option has been rolled out at its IELTS on computer and IELTS for UKVI on computer venues in Vietnam. It does not list Vinh venues by name; ielts.org's finder does tag British Council records in Nghệ An (see the next item).
- ielts.org. Its One Skill Retake page asks you to make sure your test centre offers the retake before booking the full test, and to sit the retake within 60 days of the full test. Its test-centre finder (described above) tags IDP's Vinh record with “One Skill Retake” and tags four of the six Nghệ An records, which covers all three British Council addresses.
The individual ielts.org centre pages show no retake tag, British Council's own page names no Vinh venue, and the finder tags some records at an address but not others. Computer test days, Writing on Paper and Speaking
Format: on computer
IDP says it has stopped running paper-based IELTS in Vietnam. Its page on IELTS on computer with Writing on Paper says that option is held at three places: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang. All 50 Vinh session cards we read said “IELTS trên máy tính” (IELTS on computer) and “Writing on computer”. British Council's page on ways to take IELTS offers IELTS on computer and IELTS on computer with Writing on Paper but does not say where Writing on Paper runs, so check the portal if you want to handwrite your Writing in Vinh. Test days and times
IDP's venue list mentions computer tests “7 ngày/tuần” (7 days a week) and its schedule page says up to seven days a week, but both are nationwide statements. In IDP's 2026 schedule table the Hanoi row reads “7 ngày/ tuần” (7 days a week), while the Vinh row lists particular dates in each month. The 50 Vinh sessions we read started at 08:00 AM or 01:00 PM. IDP notes that its computer test days include both Academic and General Training. British Council says Listening, Reading and Writing are taken together, in the morning from 9:00 to 12:00 or in the afternoon from 14:00 to 17:00.
Speaking
- IDP in Vinh: its Nghệ An page says the Speaking test is taken by video call with an IELTS examiner at the Vinh venue, and the venue page says all four skills can be completed on the same day. IDP's schedule page says you can choose the date of your Speaking test; another IDP page adds that at some IDP venues Speaking may be held the day before the other three skills.
- British Council: you can choose your Speaking slot and format, face to face or by video call.
On results: IDP's Vinh venue page says “just 2 days”, while its session cards say “Results in 1 to 5 days”; British Council says computer results usually come after 2 days.
Choosing a venue in Vinh: what to check
- Provider and address. Pick IDP or British Council first, then check the venue's address on a map and against your booking confirmation before test day.
- Format and Speaking. Check whether the session is fully on computer and whether Speaking is face to face or by video call.
- Retake. If a retake might matter, confirm it for your exact session before paying.
- No seat? IDP's Nghệ An page suggests trying another city or venue. IDP's 2026 table and British Council's list both include Thanh Hóa.

Where online coaching with Mike fits
Band Booster IELTS has no centre in Vinh. Lessons are online only, one-to-one and live on Google Meet with Mike, who teaches every session himself from Hanoi, in English. He holds the Cambridge CELTA, and his own IELTS result is 7.5 overall with 8.5 in Speaking (see about Mike).
In Vietnam a 60-minute lesson is 500,000 ₫ and a paid 30-minute trial is 150,000 ₫, once per student. The booking page shows the calendar in your own time zone (Hanoi is UTC+7, with no daylight saving) and lists the payment options.
