In Romania, the test centres listed by ielts.org all show IELTS on computer: you read and listen on a screen and type your answers, while Speaking is still a face-to-face interview with an examiner. Band Booster IELTS is a private tutor, not a test centre. Mike, a CELTA-certified teacher based in Hanoi, teaches one-to-one, live on Google Meet, in English.

Is IELTS in Romania on paper or on computer?

The listings point to computer. The ielts.org test-centre directory for Romania, as read on 31 October 2026, labels every physical centre as computer and none as paper-based. Two further entries are labelled IELTS Academic Online. This page does not say paper is impossible; it says the Romanian listings show computer delivery, so check the format on the provider page when you book.

Two providers run the test in Romania: the British Council, whose Romanian IELTS pages you should check for its own details, and IDP Romania. For the cities and how the two lists differ, see IELTS test centres in Romania.

What changes on a computer

IDP's page on IELTS on computer says the Reading, Listening and Writing parts are on a computer and all answers are typed on the screen. It adds that a note-taking and highlight function is provided. ielts.org's ways to take IELTS page says the questions for those three sections are shown on screen and answers are entered on the computer.

SectionOn computer
ListeningQuestions on screen; you enter answers on the computer.
ReadingPassages and questions on screen; answers typed.
WritingTyped on screen, so word count and typing speed matter.
SpeakingNot on a computer: a face-to-face interview with an examiner.

The fetched Romanian pages do not state that the computer and paper tests are identical in format and scoring, so this page does not claim it. ielts.org uses that wording only for IELTS Online. Read the provider page if the comparison matters for your application.

The Speaking test: a live interview, sometimes on another day

IDP Romania says the Speaking test stays a face-to-face interview with an examiner. It also says that in some test centres you sit Speaking on the same day, or up to 7 days before or after your test date. ielts.org agrees on the face-to-face format.

The practical point: your Speaking time may not be the same day as the other three sections. Your confirmation email gives the exact times, and that email is what applies, not a general rule.

How long do computer results take in Romania?

Providers publish ranges, and they differ a little. They are typical timings, not promises.

  • IDP Romania: its page says results are available within 1 to 5 days, while a banner on the same page says 3 to 5 days.
  • ielts.org: its results page says computer results are usually within 1 to 2 days, and its ways-to-take page gives 1 to 5 days after test completion.
  • British Council Romania: this page could not confirm its timings, so read its Romanian results page for them.

How your results are issued (electronic or paper), how long the electronic form stays available, and how re-marking works depend on your provider, so check its page. If a deadline is close, leave a margin of more than a week. For re-marking and retakes, see IELTS results in Romania (Romanian) and IELTS One Skill Retake or a full retake.

On the day: devices and equipment

IDP says headphones are always provided for IELTS on computer. If you want to ask for other headphones, it says to ask at least two weeks before the test. Phones and other electronic devices must be switched off and left with your belongings; IDP says keeping them leads to disqualification. For ID and what to bring, follow your confirmation email.

How to practise for the screen

This is general teaching advice, not provider guidance.

  • Type full Writing answers under a timer in a plain editor that shows a word count.
  • Practise whole Reading passages on a screen, not printed.
  • Enter Listening answers while the recording plays, since it is played once.
  • Practise Speaking aloud with another person, because it is a live conversation.

How lessons with Mike can help with this

Band Booster IELTS is a private tutoring service. It does not register candidates, set exam fees or provide exam software, and a lesson is practice, not the test. Mike is a Cambridge CELTA-certified teacher based in Hanoi with 12+ years teaching English and IELTS in Vietnam, Turkey and Iran. He teaches every session himself, live on Google Meet, in English, and his own IELTS Speaking result is 8.5 (about Mike).

For Writing, Mike marks Task 1 and Task 2 against the public band descriptors; typing them under a timer matches the computer format. For Speaking, you practise Parts 1 to 3 in the real format and get feedback in the moment. He also leaves written progress notes in your account. No band is promised.

Lessons are 60 minutes, with a paid 30-minute trial once, on your first booking. You can reschedule at no charge up to 12 hours before the slot. The booking page shows each slot in your own Romanian time, and the exact price before you pay; PayPal charges the US-dollar equivalent. See the online IELTS tutor page for Romania for more.
