Bucharest has two IELTS centres on the listings read: the European Examinations Centre in Sector 1, listed on the IDP Romania site, and a centre in Cotroceni listed on ielts.org under a British Council web address. This page gives each street address and the test types the listings show. Band Booster IELTS is not a test centre: Mike, a CELTA-certified teacher in Hanoi, teaches one-to-one lessons live on Google Meet, in English.

This page was written from the provider and ielts.org pages read in October 2026. Listings, test types and opening hours change, so confirm each point on the page you book from. It is general information, not personal advice, and it states no fees or exam dates: the provider pages show those.

The two centres at a glance

Cotroceni centreCotroceni Business Center, Iuliu Maniu 7, corp A, scara 2, etaj 2ielts.org (check the record for the operator)Academic, General Training and UKVI General Training, on computer; Life Skills A1

The first row comes from the IDP centre page and the ielts.org record. The second comes from the ielts.org record for the Cotroceni centre. This page does not name the building operators; the street address is what you need.

European Examinations Centre, Sector 1

The IDP contact page prints the same address and gives opening hours of 10 AM to 6 PM. The centre page lists IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training on computer, with Writing on computer. It shows no paper-based option, and neither the IDP page nor ielts.org lists UKVI or Life Skills for this centre. Each session shown on the IDP page carries a One Skill Retake label; the rules are explained in IELTS One Skill Retake.

Cotroceni centre

The ielts.org record lists an Academic test and a General Training test on computer, a UKVI General Training test on computer, and Life Skills A1. No paper-based test is listed. Other UKVI variants may exist, but this page could not confirm them, so check the British Council Romania IELTS pages for the current list.

Which one handles UKVI?

  • For IELTS for UKVI, the listing that shows it in Bucharest is the Cotroceni centre.
  • The Sector 1 centre is listed without UKVI. That means it is not shown, not that it can never be offered: check IDP.
  • Life Skills is a separate test from IELTS Academic and General Training. This page describes it only as listed.
  • Whether you need a UKVI test at all depends on the visa route or institution. Ask them, and read the requirement on the official page.

The full explanation is in IELTS for UKVI in Romania. Other cities are in IELTS test centres in Romania.

Choosing between them

  1. Decide the test you need: Academic or General Training, or a UKVI test if your institution asks for it. See Academic or General Training.
  2. Open the provider page for the centre that lists it and look at the sessions shown.
  3. Check the address on the booking confirmation and your identity document rules on the provider page.
  4. Plan the journey yourself: this page has no transport, parking or hotel information, because none was on the pages read.

Band Booster IELTS is not a test centre. It does not register candidates, set fees or dates, and is not connected to IDP or the British Council. Lessons are practice, not an IELTS test.

How lessons with Mike can help with this

Mike holds a Cambridge CELTA (July 2017), is based in Hanoi, has 12+ years teaching English and IELTS in Vietnam, Turkey and Iran, and scored 8.5 in Speaking in his own IELTS. He teaches every lesson himself, one-to-one, live on Google Meet, in English. See About Mike.

In Writing lessons you practise Task 1 and Task 2 and get them marked against the public band descriptors. In Speaking lessons you practise Parts 1 to 3 in the real format, with feedback in the moment. Because the computer tests are typed, Writing practice can be done on a keyboard. Progress notes are left in your account.

The booking calendar shows each slot in your own time zone. Romania is on EET (UTC+2) in winter and EEST (UTC+3) in summer, and Hanoi is on UTC+7 all year, so Hanoi is 5 hours ahead in winter and 4 in summer. The booking page shows the exact amount before you pay; PayPal charges the US-dollar equivalent. A paid 30-minute trial is available once, on a first booking, and a lesson can be rescheduled at no charge up to 12 hours before the slot. Book on the booking page. No band score is promised: progress depends on where you start and how you practise.
