This page sets out what IDP's pages, ielts.org, British Council Malaysia's pages and the UK Home Office's list of approved test centres outside the UK show for IELTS test venues in Ipoh, Perak, as read on 24 October 2026. Provider pages change, so confirm the venue, the test type and the date on the provider's page and in your booking confirmation. Band Booster IELTS is a private tutoring service, not a test centre: it does not register candidates or set exam fees, and this page quotes no exam fee or test date.
Ipoh venues at a glance
Two venues turn up for Ipoh, at different addresses. Each row gives the address in the wording of the source named in the second column.
| Venue | Listed by | Address, as that source gives it | What the sources show |
|---|---|---|---|
| IDP Ipoh | IDP's centre page; ielts.org | Quest International University, No.227, Jalan Raja Permaisuri Bainun, 30250 Ipoh, Perak (IDP's wording) | IDP: session cards for IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training, labelled IELTS on computer and Writing on computer. ielts.org: Academic and General Training on computer only |
| re2 International Computer School | ielts.org, as a British Council venue; British Council Malaysia's locations page | ielts.org: 71, Lorong Taman Ipoh 1 Taman Ipoh Selatan, Perak 31400. British Council Malaysia prints the name as RE2 International Computer School, Ipoh, Perak | ielts.org: Academic and General Training, on computer |
IDP Ipoh: Quest International University
IDP's Ipoh centre page is the starting point for this venue, and its dates page is where the sessions are listed. ielts.org has its own page for the same venue.
Two names for one street address
Both pages put the venue at number 227 Jalan Raja Permaisuri Bainun in Ipoh, Perak 30250. IDP's page gives the name Quest International University. ielts.org's page is headed with the same name, but the first line of its address block uses a different one, Quest English Language Centre:
| Source | Heading | Address, as that page gives it |
|---|---|---|
| IDP's centre page | IDP Ipoh (IELTS on Computer) | Quest International University, No.227, Jalan Raja Permaisuri Bainun, 30250 Ipoh, Perak |
| ielts.org's venue page | IDP IELTS Malaysia - Quest International University | Quest English Language Centre 227 Jalan Raja Permaisuri Bainun Ipoh Ipoh Perak 30250 |
This page cannot say how the two names relate or which one is in everyday use. Rely on the venue name and address printed on your booking confirmation, and ask IDP if they differ from what you searched for.
Opening hours: "As per test schedule"
IDP's Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru centre pages give weekday and Saturday hours; the Johor Bahru guide shows how that page words them. The Ipoh page gives its regular hours only as "As per test schedule". That leaves no fixed hours to plan around, so plan your day from the date, time and venue on your booking confirmation rather than from the centre page.
The contact details on IDP's page
The Ipoh page lists ieltssupport.penang@idp.com as its contact email and also shows a telephone number. The email address contains "penang" rather than "ipoh", and the page does not say which team answers it or whether it is the right route for Ipoh enquiries. If you need to reach IDP about an Ipoh session, use the contact details on your booking confirmation, and the telephone number on the centre page if the email gets no reply.
What the session list showed
On IDP's Ipoh dates page, read on 24 October 2026, the page said "Showing 16 test sessions in Ipoh". It showed ten cards at first, and a "Load more" button brought up the rest. The cards were for IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training, eight of each, all labelled IELTS on computer and Writing on computer. The page's filter lists "Academic for UKVI" and "General Training for UKVI", but none of the 16 cards was a UKVI session. This page copies no session dates or fees: the list changes, so open the dates page yourself for the dates you want.
re2 International Computer School: the British Council venue in Ipoh
ielts.org lists a British Council venue in Ipoh called re2 International Computer School, at 71, Lorong Taman Ipoh 1 Taman Ipoh Selatan, Perak 31400, with Academic and General Training, both on computer. British Council Malaysia's own dates, fees and locations page says it offers IELTS tests in 17 locations in 7 states, Perak among them, and its location list names RE2 International Computer School, Ipoh, Perak. The two sources spell the name differently (ielts.org writes re2, British Council Malaysia writes RE2). Two points need attention:
- It is a different venue from IDP's. The street name and the postcode differ (30250 for the IDP address, 31400 for this one). Match the venue name and address on your confirmation, not just the word "Ipoh".
- Where you book and where you sit the test are separate things. British Council Malaysia says you can book online or at its offices in Kuala Lumpur and Penang, while its locations page lists RE2 International Computer School in Ipoh as a test location. Check the test venue on your confirmation instead of assuming it is where you booked.
Both ielts.org and British Council Malaysia's locations page list this venue, but the test types above come from ielts.org alone, so confirm the test type and dates on British Council Malaysia's booking page before you commit.
IELTS for UKVI: what the lists show for Ipoh
IELTS for UKVI is the version of the test linked to UK Visas and Immigration. Whether you need it depends on your own application, which this page cannot advise on. Two sources bear on Ipoh:
- IDP's Ipoh dates page lists UKVI test types in its filter, but none of the 16 sessions it showed on 24 October 2026 was a UKVI session.
- The Home Office list of approved test centres outside the UK, as published in October 2026 (the file name carries the date 9 October 2026), has IELTS SELT Consortium rows in Malaysia for Johor Bahru, Kuala Lumpur, Kuching, Penang, Subang Jaya and Kota Kinabalu, and no row of any provider in Ipoh or elsewhere in Perak. The Penang row is IDP Penang. So on that list there is no approved IELTS for UKVI test location in Ipoh.
That is what one list shows at one date, not a ruling on what is possible for you. If you need a UKVI test, check the current list and ask the provider which venue and session carry it. IELTS for UKVI in Malaysia sets out what the UK rules say about where the test must be taken.
What the Ipoh listings say about the format
Every Ipoh listing that names a format names computer: IDP's session cards say "IELTS on computer" and "Writing on computer", and ielts.org lists Academic and General Training on computer for both venues. The format filter on IDP's Ipoh dates page still offers an "IELTS on paper" option, but all 16 sessions shown on 24 October 2026 were on computer. IDP's page on computer-based IELTS also names Ipoh among its ten Malaysian computer test locations. None of this says how Speaking is held at these venues. The providers' Malaysian pages do not agree on whether Speaking is face to face or by video call, or on whether paper is still offered; computer-delivered IELTS in Malaysia sets out what each provider's pages say. Ask the provider about both when you book.
Before you book an Ipoh venue: what to check
- Venue name and address. Match both to your confirmation.
- Test type. Academic or General Training, as the organisation receiving your score requires (how the two differ).
- UKVI. If you need it, ask the provider; do not assume it from a filter or a list.
- Dates, times and format. Use the live dates page and your confirmation, and confirm how Speaking will be held. The retake guide explains the One Skill Retake option, which you can ask the provider about.
- Test day. See IELTS test day in Malaysia for ID and what to bring, and the guide to IELTS test centres across Malaysia for other states.
Online lessons with Mike for students in Ipoh and Perak
Band Booster IELTS has no centre or classroom in Ipoh or anywhere in Perak. Lessons are online only, one-to-one on Google Meet, in English. Mike holds the Cambridge CELTA, teaches from Hanoi, teaches every lesson himself, and scored 8.5 in IELTS Speaking. About Mike has his background.
The Malaysia tutoring page explains how lessons, payment and rescheduling work anywhere in Malaysia. There are also pages for Kuala Lumpur and Penang, and one on IELTS Speaking tutoring for Malaysia.
- A regular lesson is 60 minutes. A paid 30-minute trial can be taken once, on your first booking.
- Malaysia is one hour ahead of Hanoi all year, so 8 pm in Ipoh is 7 pm in Hanoi. The booking calendar shows every slot in your own time.
- The booking page shows your price in your own currency before you pay. There is no subscription and no package to commit to.
- You can reschedule at no charge up to 12 hours before a slot; a cancellation inside 12 hours is not refunded.
- Sessions can cover Listening, Reading, Writing (Task 1 and Task 2, marked against the public band descriptors) or Speaking (Parts 1, 2 and 3). No band score is promised.
- As general advice, not provider guidance, if your test is on computer, practise Listening, Reading and Writing on a screen, against the clock. Lessons are not run on the test software.
