This page explains IELTS for UKVI for people in Turkey: what it is, where the official lists place it, which ID GOV.UK accepts and what IELTS Life Skills is. Everything below was read on the named official pages in October 2026. Lists, tags and rules change, and this is general information, not advice on your visa. Check the linked page for the current rule.
Band Booster IELTS is not a test centre. It does not register candidates, set fees or dates, and has no link with IDP, British Council, Cambridge or UKVI. For booking, go to the test provider.
What IELTS for UKVI is
ielts.org describes IELTS for UKVI as a secure English language test (SELT). It adds that UKVI will only accept these tests taken in person at an official IELTS for UKVI test centre, because UKVI requires an additional layer of security. IDP Türkiye states the same rule on its UKVI page.
So the question is not only which test you take but where you take it. Before you pay, confirm with the provider exactly which test and which centre your booking is for.
What GOV.UK says about SELTs
The GOV.UK guidance on secure English language tests (updated 26 October 2026) says the following.
- The IELTS SELT Consortium is one of the approved providers, and its tests are named "IELTS for UKVI" and "IELTS Life Skills".
- Results are valid for 2 years from the date the test is awarded, and the test must have been sat at an approved test location.
- The English level required depends on your route, so read the guidance for your own route.
- You are told not to contact the test centre directly; use the provider's website for questions.
Turkey on the GOV.UK list of approved centres
GOV.UK publishes a list of approved test centres outside the UK. In the version dated 23 October 2026, Turkey has 12 rows for the IELTS SELT Consortium.
| City | IELTS rows on the list |
|---|---|
| Istanbul | 5 |
| Ankara | 4 |
| Adana | 1 |
| Izmir | 1 |
| Gaziantep | 1 |
The ielts.org directory for Turkey also tags some venues as UKVI Approved, and some venues appear more than once, so two entries for one place can differ. Check your own city there too, as the tags can differ from the GOV.UK list. This page does not name individual venues, because lists change.
How to use the lists
- Open the GOV.UK list and find your city and the exact centre.
- Check the same centre in the ielts.org directory.
- On the provider's booking page, confirm that your session is IELTS for UKVI or Life Skills at that centre.
If the lists and the provider's page disagree, ask the provider before paying. For all centres by city, see IELTS test centres in Turkey.
ID on test day
For tests taken outside the UK, GOV.UK accepts a passport, a convention travel document or a stateless persons travel document. It also accepts a valid photographic government-issued identity card in the country where it was issued. Emergency travel documents are not accepted. The provider may add its own booking rules, so read them too: see booking IELTS in Turkey.
IELTS Life Skills
ielts.org lists Life Skills at levels A1, A2 and B1. It assesses Listening and Speaking only, and the routes it describes ask for a Pass. Which level a visa or settlement route asks for depends on the route, so check GOV.UK for yours before booking.
Do you need UKVI at all?
Not always. For a Student visa at degree level or above, ielts.org says standard IELTS can be used as well as IELTS for UKVI, and the university may have its own rules. Ask your university or college which evidence it needs, and read GOV.UK for your route. For what scores institutions ask, see IELTS scores for study abroad, and for the paper choice see Academic or General Training. This page prints no minimum band, because they differ by route and change.
How lessons with Mike can help with this
Lessons cover IELTS Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking, not Life Skills and not any visa procedure. Mike holds a Cambridge CELTA (July 2017), is based in Hanoi, and has 12+ years teaching English and IELTS in Vietnam, Turkey and Iran. His own IELTS result is 8.5 in Speaking (about Mike). He teaches every session himself, one-to-one, live on Google Meet, in English.
In Writing sessions he marks Task 1 and Task 2 against the public band descriptors. In Speaking he runs Parts 1 to 3 in the real format with feedback in the moment. Progress notes go in your account. No result is promised. The booking calendar shows each slot in your own time zone, and the booking page shows the exact price before you pay. The paid 30-minute trial is once per student, on the first booking.
