IELTS Online is the Academic test taken at home. IDP says you must be a resident of the country where you book and be there on test day; nationals can book up to 48 hours ahead, non-nationals need proof of residency and four days. Boğaziçi University does not accept it, and UKVI accepts only in-person tests at an IELTS for UKVI centre, so check your receiver first.

Price: TRY 1,704.22 for a 60-minute one-to-one lesson; TRY 473.40 for the paid 30-minute trial. Amounts use the same price tiers as the booking page, in your local currency at exchange rates set on 6 October 2026. The booking page shows the exact amount before you pay, and PayPal charges the US-dollar equivalent (USD 34.66 for a 60-minute lesson).

You can also choose a 2-hour lesson on the booking page; the price is shown there before you pay.

IELTS Online lets you sit the Academic test at home, but IDP's Turkey page sets two firm conditions: you must be a resident of the country where you book, and you must be in that country on test day. Some organisations do not accept it at all. Band Booster IELTS is a private tutor, not a test provider: Mike teaches one-to-one, live on Google Meet, in English.

What IELTS Online is

According to the IDP page for Turkey, IELTS Online is the same test as the IELTS Academic tests on paper or on computer, taken at home on your own device. Treat that page as the rule set and confirm details when you book. It does not describe how Speaking is run, so this page says nothing about that part.

The page speaks of the Academic test. It does not mention General Training, so if you need General Training, ask the provider before you plan around the online format.

The residency rule

This is the point that surprises many people. The IDP page says you must be a resident of the country where you are booking and sitting the test, and you must also be physically in that country on test day. The booking window below is different for nationals and non-nationals, so read both rules together.

The IDP page points those who are not residents to IELTS on computer at a test centre instead. Our guide to test centres in Turkey lists the cities.

How far ahead you can book

WhoWhat IDP says
Nationals of the countryYou can book up to 48 hours before your test time.
Non-nationalsYou need proof of residency and must book at least four days in advance; booking earlier is strongly recommended.

If you book within three days of the test and your ID is not from the country of registration, the page says your test may be cancelled and refunded. Dates and availability change, so look at the booking page itself rather than relying on any summary.

Proof of residency

If your ID was not issued in the country where you register, you may be asked for proof of residency. IDP lists these documents:

  • a valid visa or residence permit;
  • a utility bill or bank statement dated within the last 3 months;
  • a rental agreement;
  • a university enrolment letter, for international students;
  • an employment letter or a recent payslip.

Check the IDP page for what happens if you cannot provide proof. Which ID is accepted in Turkey is covered in booking IELTS in Turkey: ID and test day.

What you need at home

IDP asks for a private, well-lit space where you will not be interrupted, and a stable internet connection. Think about who else uses the connection in your home, and tell the people around you when you will be sitting the test.

Where an at-home result may not work

Before you choose the online format, ask the organisation that will receive your result whether it takes it. Two documented examples:

  • Boğaziçi University. The university's language school page on exams equivalent to its own proficiency exam says that IELTS Academic, paper-based or computer-delivered, is recognised at an overall 6.5 with Writing 6.5, or overall 6.5 with a TWE pass. It also states that IELTS Online examinations are not accepted. Details are in our Boğaziçi page (Turkish).
  • UK visas. ielts.org says the UKVI will only accept tests taken in person at an official IELTS for UKVI test centre. That page does not mention IELTS Online, so ask the receiving organisation or check the current rule before you rely on an at-home test. See IELTS for UKVI in Turkey.

We do not make claims about other Turkish universities here, because we have not read a rule on IELTS Online from them. Check each institution's own page or ask its admissions office.

Results

ielts.org gives the time to receive IELTS Online results as 6 to 8 days, longer than the 1 to 5 days it gives for IELTS on computer. It also says IELTS Online results can only be officially shared with organisations through IELTS Results Service e-delivery, with no postal copies. Receiving organisations can verify them in that service. If your deadline is close, these timings matter.

How lessons with Mike can help

Band Booster IELTS does not run IELTS Online, register candidates or set fees; you book the test with the provider. What Mike can do is prepare you for the four skills. He is a CELTA-certified teacher based in Hanoi, with 12+ years teaching English and IELTS in Vietnam, Turkey and Iran, and his own IELTS result is 8.5 in Speaking. Every lesson is one-to-one, live on Google Meet, in English.

  • He marks Writing Task 1 and Task 2 against the public band descriptors.
  • He runs Speaking Parts 1 to 3 in the real format and gives feedback in the moment.
  • He leaves written progress notes in your account.

Practising alone at a screen in a quiet room, as the online test requires, is easier after a few timed sessions. You can book a paid 30-minute trial, once per student on your first booking, or a 60-minute lesson on the booking page. The calendar shows each slot in your own time zone, and you can reschedule at no charge up to 12 hours before. Read more about Mike.

Common questions

Can anyone in the world take IELTS Online from home?

No. IDP says you must be a resident of the country where you book and be physically in that country on test day. People who are not residents are pointed to IELTS on computer at a test centre.

How far ahead can I book IELTS Online in Turkey?

IDP says nationals can book up to 48 hours before the test time, while non-nationals need proof of residency and must book at least four days ahead. Booking earlier is strongly recommended, and the booking page shows what is actually open.

What counts as proof of residency?

IDP lists a valid visa or residence permit, a utility bill or bank statement from the last 3 months, a rental agreement, a university enrolment letter, or an employment letter or recent payslip. You may be asked for it if your ID was not issued in the country where you register.

Is IELTS Online accepted for UK visas?

ielts.org says UKVI will only accept tests taken in person at an official IELTS for UKVI test centre. That page does not mention IELTS Online, so check the current rule with the receiving organisation or the official UK government page before you book.

Do Turkish universities accept IELTS Online?

It depends on the university. Boğaziçi University states that IELTS Online examinations are not accepted. We have not read a rule from other universities, so ask each one or check its page.

Do you offer IELTS Online or register me for the test?

No. Band Booster IELTS is a private tutor and is not a test provider. You register with IDP or the British Council; Mike prepares you for the four skills in one-to-one lessons on Google Meet.
