People searching for an IELTS centre in Istanbul usually need two things: a place to take the test and a way to prepare for it. This page covers both. The first half reports what the official directories show; the second half explains how lessons with Mike fit around an Istanbul day. Band Booster is a private tutoring service. It is not a test centre, does not take test bookings and does not set test fees or dates.
Where IELTS is held in Istanbul
The test-centre directory on ielts.org was read on 31 October 2026. It lists IDP and British Council venues in Istanbul. Its Turkey results are headed “Showing 57 results for Turkey”, and many of the entries are in Istanbul. Some venues appear more than once, so do not read the number of entries as the number of buildings.
The Istanbul page of IDP Türkiye says in Turkish that candidates in Istanbul can take IELTS Academic or General Training at several centres on both the European and the Anatolian (Asian) side, and it names Şişli, Bakırköy and Avcılar among the districts.
| Side of the Bosphorus | Districts on ielts.org (31 October 2026) | Providers listed |
|---|---|---|
| European side | Şişli (Mecidiyeköy), Sarıyer, Bakırköy, Avcılar, Beyoğlu, Yeşilköy, Beylikdüzü/Esenyurt, Beşiktaş, Kağıthane | IDP and British Council |
| Asian side | Kadıköy only | IDP and British Council |
The directory gives each venue’s exact street address and the provider that runs it. This page does not print venue names; open the directory, filter for Istanbul and read the address before you travel.
Tags to read on each entry
- Computer and One Skill Retake appear on many entries, but not all. A venue can show one tag on one entry and a different tag on a second entry for the same address, so check the provider’s own booking page for the session you want.
- Computer (Writing on Paper) appears on a few entries. Ask the provider what it means for your booking.
- UKVI Approved appears on only some Istanbul entries: one IDP entry in Sarıyer, several British Council entries in Kadıköy and one in Beşiktaş. If you need IELTS for UKVI, see IELTS for UKVI in Turkey, and remember that IDP’s Istanbul page showed no UKVI sessions when it was read.
What the pages do not tell you
- Fees and dates. They change and differ by provider, so this page states none. Use the session list on the provider’s own page.
- British Council rules. The British Council Türkiye pages could not be loaded while this page was researched, so its change, cancellation and ID rules are not summarised here. Read them on its site.
- Results. IDP says computer-based results arrive in 1 to 5 days. Check the provider you book with.
- ID and test-day rules. See booking IELTS in Turkey: ID, deadlines and test day.
For the other cities, IELTS test centres in Turkey by city gives one paragraph for each.
Choosing a venue: a short checklist
- Decide whether you need Academic, General Training or a UKVI version, and confirm it with the university, employer or visa page that asks for it.
- Open the directory on ielts.org and look at Istanbul entries on your side of the Bosphorus.
- Open the matching provider’s booking page and check that the session at that address offers the version you need.
- Check the address and the route in advance, then read the ID and test-day rules before you pay.
How lessons with Mike can help with this
Lessons are separate from the test. Mike is a teacher with a Cambridge CELTA (July 2017), based in Hanoi, with 12+ years teaching English and IELTS in Vietnam, Turkey and Iran. His own IELTS result is 8.5 in Speaking. He teaches every session himself, one-to-one, live on Google Meet, in English.
In a Writing lesson he marks your Task 1 or Task 2 against the public band descriptors. In a Speaking lesson he runs Parts 1 to 3 in the real format and gives feedback in the moment. After lessons he leaves written progress notes in your account. Listening and Reading are covered too, and General English lessons are available. No result or timeline is promised: progress depends on your starting point and on the practice you do between lessons.
Istanbul is on UTC+3 all year and Hanoi on UTC+7, so Hanoi is four hours ahead: 18:00 in Istanbul is 22:00 in Hanoi. The booking calendar shows each slot in your own time zone, and it does not promise any particular time will be free.
A lesson lasts 60 minutes, and you can reschedule at no charge up to 12 hours before the slot. A paid 30-minute trial is available once, on your first booking. There is no subscription or package. The Google Meet link and calendar invite arrive by email right after payment. You can pay through PayPal (cards go through PayPal), bank transfer in Vietnam or USDT. PayPal charges the US-dollar equivalent, and the exact amount appears on the booking page before you pay. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian first agrees to a short consent letter before the booking is made. See the booking calendar, read about Mike, or compare online IELTS tutoring in Turkey.
